Recommend me a Good Anime!

I liked Fullmetal Alchemist. It is definately one of my more favorite ones, even though it kind of jips you on the ending. Monster is a strong reccomendation here. Also, if you haven't watched any episodes, Shin Chan.
Are you requesting to be stabbed in the face?
lol no, that was a joke

Dark Fury's the only thing even close to anime that i've seen before

Well, you've got two pages worth of suggestions in front of you.
just started lovely complex and its hilarious. id reccomend it as well.
Have you seen "Love Hina" ¿? My wife and I loved that series but have not quite been able to find anything that was as funny yet deep like that show was. This show sounds like it might be simular in a different kind of vein.

on a side note we saw FLCL and well... that was some twisted stuff. hahaha

omfg, i can't believe i didn't even think of hunter x hunter earlier til someone just posted it!

probably my single favorite anime that hasn't been licensed in america yet (and i can't understand why, since the manga was...)

I need to start watching anime again...been in withdrawal for the past year or so, really haven't watched much the past 2 years, although i have seen almost all the shows mentioned in this thread.

Question to anyone who can answer it; how far is the hajime no ippo manga now? I can't believe it's still going; the manga is almost older than I am.
X: The movie. GO WATCH IT NOW.
AND THEN GET REALLY ANGRY BECAUSE YOU WASTED AN HOUR AND A HALF OF YOUR LIFE.

Okay, I know I pick on a lot of anime for being anywhere from mediocre to awful, but X: The Movie is quite possibly as bad as anime gets. Seriously, it's an absolute train wreck. On the other hand, I whole-heartedly recommend the X TV series and manga.

Oh, and my apologies if you were trying to trick him into watching it because you already know how awful it is. Guess I ruined your joke.

Yeah, I've finally caved on reading the manga: I already know it doesn't really have an 'ending', as they stopped writing it, but oh well. I've enjoyed xxxHolic and Tsubasa well enough (the mangas), that I may as well give an earlier Clamp project a once over. :)
Death Note
Bleach
Naruto
/agreed

Death Note is highly recommended. I finished the series before they started to air it on Cartoon Network, and throughout the series of 37 episodes I watched multiple episodes back to back wanting to know how else the kid killed, in his eyes for the better good.

Summary:
Kid finds Death Note
Kid kills criminals by writing their names on Notebook
Kid tries to create a better world
Police sees this as murder
Kid tries to keep his identity by avoiding Police and Killing Cops
Freaking awesome series

I also enjoyed the whole Ranma 1/2 series. Lots of great Character Development and Back Story. Very funny series thats Martial Arts driven with an Arranged Marriage with a Daughter of a Dojo Master and a Boy that turns into a Girl with Cold Water.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Samurai Deeper Kyo
MD Geist (old school)
School Rumble

I need to check out this Anime. The OP should update the post with the recomendations or something. I'd love if there were like...anime ratings.

Because I really need more anime in my life.
X The Movie sucks and is perhaps emo.
Emo isn't really an objective quality. It's like It is an insult. Either you're calling someone emo, or you're not. Once enough people have claimed someone/something to be emo, it is designated with the emo moniker.

Haha, yeah I never saw the movie, but my friend told me about it once. He thought it was absolute trash.

I remember watching the trailer of it once and thought the movie looked cool, but then I saw all the reviews. Still need to watch x tv.

I really do recommend azumanga, macross plus, and fruits basket.

I remember my sister and I watched some of X TV and then saw the movie at Blockbuster and got it.

Wow, we watched about 15mins and then took it back. It was so bad.

But the ending is so hilarious! I laughed for a good ten minutes over how bad and abrupt it was!

On another topic, (not to hijack the OP's thread) what's a good bloody anime? I could go for one of those right about now

Those Who Hunt Elves ;) For Comedy

So far my favorite Anime Series I have watched was Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (yeah, I know it isn't the critic's or most peoples' favorite, but I really like it)

Elfen Lied and Hellsing come to mind.

It seems there's an unwritten law in the anime world that all "bloody anime" must be god-awful. The only decent one I can think of is Hellsing Ultimate.

One doesn't watch a bloody anime for the plot, Kirin. ;)

Plus, Elfen Lied really wasn't bad. A bit over the top, yes, but still enjoyable, bloody or not.

I thought the characters were infuriatingly retarded, and devoid of any personality. I require interesting characters if I'm going to be forced to sit through another insipid blood-and-titties show.

That's the problem right there--it's a blood-and-titties show. Don't hold it to the same standards you would a normal show. Just enjoy the limbs being torn off and the blood and don't look for great plot/character development.

This is why I hate it when people tell me "That movie got bad reviews." is people with standards like that. I honestly don't understand this massive hate you have for everything. I mean Elfen Lied had better plot and characters than most stuff I've seen, plus it had enough action to keep me awake, not just 13(24/however many to a season/show anymore...) episodes of just talking.
Guess I'll have to check it out :p

Gantz. I thought it was worse than Elfen Lied.
I mean Elfen Lied had better plot and characters than most stuff I've seen
Really? Really?? Maybe you're not watching the right stuff. I understand that people are drawn to different shows for different reasons, but I sat through all of Elfen Lied and felt nothing after it was over. I didn't find the plot to be very interesting, and I actually hated most of the characters for acting like retards most of the time. To me, it was just an incredibly shallow, forgettable show.
I've heard Gantz is actually bad bad (as in not good.) Truth? Also wondering about Basilisk and Berserk.
Truth. So bad.

Basilisk is visually interesting (and quite violent, if that helps any), but everything else is fairly unremarkable. And like Liquid said, skip straight to the manga for Berserk.

Manga = Reading... that and 9/10 times I can get anime DVDs cheaper during sales than manga, and they tend to end sooner, so I skip anything in manga anymore.

well no one has suggested my favorites,
One Piece- which we all know is about pirates kicking peoples asses

Sgt Frog ( Keroro Gunso) - Space frogs are trying to take over the the world and fail miserably time and time again with plenty of parody thrown in for good measure.
