Red cross: 70-90 Percent of Iraqi Detainees were Arrested by Mistake
"Sometimes they arrested all adult males present in a house, including elderly, handicapped or sick people," it said. "Treatment often included pushing people around, insulting, taking aim with rifles, punching and kicking and striking with rifles."

For all you "I have no problem with prisoners being tortured, they must have deserved it" types.
I don't know, that type would usually be me, but this is different. I barely read anything about the part describing the cells, I don't know. I don't really believe it...

Not pushing people around! Not insulting! By god they should make LAWS against that sort of thing!

This has supposedly gone on for how long and the Red Cross JUST now decides to say 'oh yeah, by the way...prisoners being abused.' Something's fishy there.

How can we americans act so shocked and surprised and appalled by this behavior? We've been watching it for years on local television. And i'm not talking about hostiles, I mean incidents with americans.
Oh no! one of the army men aimed his gun at one of the people of Iraq!
So what they got pushed around! O my dont insult them or hit them when they spit on you or threaten you. For christ sake, these army guys are getting blown up over there. They are doing what the boss told them to do.
Anybody have any complaints about how the people of iraq are being treated, come see me, I'll be home all day. I'll show you the tapes of Waco Texas that you never saw.

Considering how the Red Cross never said a word about americans being tortured but quickly condemned the US for mistreating some terrorists - I don't give a fuck what they say.

I'm not complaining, I just don't believe it. It doesn't make sense, I'm not saying, "This is too horrible to believe!"

The Red Cross reported it months ago to U.S. officials. They did the sensible thing by letting our government get to the bottom of it before going to the media. Unfortunately, some higher-ups either didn't care or didn't see an urgent need to address it. Or that this was standard practice from the CIA to interrogate prisoners to get information out of them.

I have to agree with Scrub here. We might abuse the prisoners be we sure as hell dont cut there heads off like they did to our american dude NOW THATS BULLSHIT!!!!

Did the red cross have access to our soldiers who were prisoners? Did they even know where they were?

Im not sure if the red cross had access to american prisoners but i think they would just kill the red cross memebers. Ruthless i tell ya....

Where's John Rambo when you need him?
by the way heard they're doing another film.

id personally rather have my head cut off than be in the midst of a pile of naked men on international TV. one is a martyr, the other is very not~

You have to think about it this way. We are in a war much like Vietnam where we don't really know who the enemy is. Do you really think that just because a man is elderly, that changes the fact that he can't set off a bomb?

I'm in the military, and I see no problem with going and arresting people, if we have the proper intelligence to warrant it.

As for the beatings and abuse going on. I think it's wrong no matter what to abuse another person, but we are in a war with fanaticals. It should have shown you that when they beheaded Nicholas Berg. They will stop at nothing to kill us. What do you think they would do to you if you were over there?

I think the military may be thinking that the more people who have possible associations with terrorists who are behind bars, the better because it will make it safer for our military and the good Iraqi citizens.

I do believe the purpose of the war is wrong, but Iraq was a pretty bad place. I would have liked to see us garner U.N. support to overthrow Hussein, but now that that hasn't happened, we can't just leave them.

We're in deep shit now, because the terrorists are smart. They know if our coalition troops begin to sustain casualties, their countries will withdraw them, leaving America and England as the only ones left. This has already began to happen.

I may be going to Iraq later this year, and I know I won't be leaving the base I'm at.

From what I have read and seen on the news, the Red Cross had complained about lack of access to the prisons for a week or so (kinda like the weapons inspectors going into iraq), but they were let in, and their reports had very minor offenses committed by the US govt. They didn't have info on the incidents at the prison where the pictures are being leaked from. First and foremost, the release of the pictures to the general public is illegal according to the geneva convention. So if people want to complain about what we are doin to the few prsionser by a few messed up soldiers thats fine, but they make a point on how it breaks the rules according to the geneva convetion. You are not allowed to take or show photo's of prisoners. If you were one of the naked iraqis would you want your ass shown all over the world. As to my point on a few messed up soldiers, yes I believe it, a fellow solider turned them in to a lieuteant their. If this was policy, they wouldn't have been turned in, and the lieut. wouldn't have passed this info along. The Boston globe yesterday on the front page ran pictures of the alleged prison incidents, and they were fake and doctured pictures. They had to release an apology. I don't understand why everyone wants to blame america for everything in the world, how about the berg gettin his head chopped off, and don't blame that on the prison incidents, as david pearl had a similiar situation happen to him months ago

If you have seen the picture of the female soldier that is being caught in the controversy, you would realize that the soldiers in this incident are already insane. They actually had sex with that....thing. Ugh.

Like "they" did?

These were not the prisoners. Different people.

Are you saying that it's ok to do something bad to somebody as long as you can point to somebody who's doing something worse?

Who cares. They are still terrorists and given the chance they would not hesitate one second to slowly slice your head off while you were still alive or burn you alive and hang you up for all to see.

For some reason seeing a terrorist in our prison system makes people lose sight of the fact that they are still terrorists and STILL want to kill you.

No u misunderstood, what i'm saying is that we dont capture and kill Iraqi's, some of our soldiers might abuse them but dont go as far as killing them.
