Red Faction: Guerrilla - Gen. Discussion & Info

I'm going to be out of town this upcoming monday anyways. Mondays at 7p.m. central aren't set in stone. Most of the same people we played with last night played this morning for several hours. GG peeps

What's the best weapon to upgrade in single player? I don't want to waste my salvage on more remote charges or explosive discs for the grinder. Wanna save up for something good, and right now the rocket launcher is the best weapon I have.

EDIT: Looks like I'm buying the friendly detector for proximity mines. I had a nice trap laid out for a convoy but some civilian triggered it and the convoy. One truck slipped passed and I got perforated for trying to run it down. These convoys are seriously giving me some grief.

remote charges were by far my most used weapon.

just beat this tonight. still fun up into the end. the last mission was kind of of until i just tried almost speed running it.

I used the charges alot and then went for missile launcher upgrades. Thermobaric and nano are fun but you get them awfully late. I had a hard time getting scrap. Mostly because I only did 2 escort missions and very few races. Those mission types are awful and I actually liked driving all the moon cars...erm mars cars.

I like the transporter missions, they can be fun. Some of them require a little setup like the removal of choice buildings, which I'm only happy to oblige.

The only guerrilla actions I don't like are the House Arrest missions. I can't stand them! It seems like I can never save the people.

My favorite of all the missions are the ones where you ride shotgun with Jenkins and blow shit up, or the Heavy Metal missions where you get a Mech and you get to just destroy the EDF.

The way the sledge swings reminds me of Ozymandias in the Watchmen movie when he swings that....thing (whatever it is, I don't remember) and strikes the guy down. It's a badass feeling to charge up to a drone and smash him.

really enjoying the game. I love how easy it is to pick up and do a mission quickly if i have a free 10-15 minutes. Now im just curious Im in Dust and have done 98% of the missions, do i have to complete them all for the next town to open up?

I am a really big fan of the game having a horizontal swing and a vertical swing. It's such a simple implementation but so much fun. Concussion blast a guy with your backpack. Then vertical smash him! Wee!

Do we still want to do another CAG night on monday even though our host (ChernobylCow) will not be there? Or does another night work for everybody?

You have to do story missions to liberate Dust. Probably have to drop EDF control to 0 too, but that's not hard considering how much there is to do in Dust.

Is the Shattermaster any better than the Stonebreaker or am I buying a cosmetic upgrade? Just finished my 35th guerrilla action.

I don't really have any room to add people to my friend list, but I just got the game. I will gladly play with you guys if you'll have me.

I was playing the game and thinking that if you make a game like this with the Terminator lore, the game could actually be decent.

I'm not sure how long this game is, but I think you can just rush through it and not do any of the side stuff.
So I just got this as a rental. About how long do you guys think it should take to finish? Can it be done in 5 days?
Gamespot's review says 15 hours, so yes, you can, depending on how much time you have to play over the next 5 days.

I think the hammers are just aesthetic updates.

I will be out of town next week so I won't be pestering the thread for a Red Faction game night or whatever. hope you guys give the multiplayer a chance it's great.
I dropped the difficulty to casual last night and switched to using the nano rifle based on recommendations from the 1up crew. It was WAY more fun after I did that. They should have put a nano rifle training segment in the game so that you realize what it does.
Casual is SO much more fun. I got stuck midway through the game on Normal and had to switch it. I may restart the game and play Casual from the beginning.

I just got the nano rifle, and don't find it all that great. What am I missing?

It dissolves the crap out of buildings. I don't know how effective it is against vehicles and drones in SP, but it DISSOLVES BUILDINGS. That's what you're missing.

Isn't it just as effective to use the rocket launcher?

Is it just me, or is the cover system in this game wonky and pretty useless?

Around when do u get the Nano Rifle? I was playing wrecking crew with some friends and we were using the nano rifle. possibly the greatest gun ever to be in a game.

No. The Nano Riffle also works really well against tanks and air ships.

So does the rocket launcher (especially with the heat-seeking add-on)

I just haven't found the advantage of the Nano Rifle, besides the fact that it looks cool.

Sounds good to me!

It also works a lot better against the flying ships. Plus every time I had to take out a bridge I used the NR and it made short work of it.

I'm nearing the end and was having so much fun with just mines and the rocket launcher, never bothered to get the Nano gun. Now I'm in Eos, having done all the actual missions and destroyed all the EDF buildings and can't find the next main mission. Turns out you have to have the Nano Rifle to advance. Curious how long it would have taken me to figure that out without the internet.
I just picked this up and it's absolutely amazing.
I haven't had this much fun with a game in a good long while.
It's not one of the best games I've played in a while simply because I play a lot of different stuff, but it is a really good game. I had never played the Red Faction games due to only having a GameCube when the older ones were released.

I remember having tons of fun in the original multiplayer beta, so I'm looking forward to playing with CAGs!

But on second thought, I may be a little late tomorrow. I'm not sure exactly what time I will be able to get on the Xbox, and I am possibly going to be playing a UFC CAG league fight. That shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes, though.

I should be there.

I think the hammers go beyond cosmetics, I can destroy EDF vehicles even faster with the Shattermaster. I'll go destroy some buildings with it tomorrow.

I will add you as a friend and I'll definitely be on for some Red Faction!

Sorry I didn't make it tonight guys my roommate wouldn't get off the television, I was planning on getting on at 7 and that didn't happen. If any of you are late nighters I'd love to play some around 12 or 11 cent time.

Damn it, I forgot about this too. got too involved with a co-op game of Rainbow Six Vegas. ugh. Monday night is probably the worst night to choose to do this, especially with football coming up. lol
