My wifes web site - Nice jewelry good prices.

For hopefully the latestest most current up to date guide drops please refer to the

"CAG Strategy Guide WIKI page"

recent drop section

http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Category:Strategy_Guides_(recent_drops)

master list section

http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Category:Strategy_Guides_(master_lists)

they will be filetered from the thread posts to the WIKI page as often as possible. Thank you for your contribution.

Listed in the wiki is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals from the posts of this thread and similar threads. I will update the wikis lists as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. Please dont have a fit if a store wont let you have them just move on. Causing trouble rarely gets guides and most of the time stops others from getting guides in your area. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.

Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!

What is a Penny Guide:

To answer this question fully, one first has to understand the longstanding legal agreemenat which [book] publishers have with book sellers such as Borders, Barnes & Noble and other chain and Mom & Pop shops, as well as other retailers who similarly sell their books.

For several decades, publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Penguin, Random House, et cetera will send out X-number of a title to stores to be sold. After a time, when it is decided that those older titles have little chance of selling and the store shelf real-estate would be better used for newer publications, they issue a recall to the vendors to field destroy all remaining copies of titles A, B & C.

The stores then will pull those titles from their inventory to be field-destroyed, and in their systems mark the publications as 1¢. The 1¢ price is to indicate to the publisher that they are no-longer selling the pulled title, and it is also to serve as a Red Flag to any cashier who might ring up a title (on the chance that the titles were not pulled as legally they were required).

When the pull lists are sent out by the publishers, and the stores adjust the price in their inventory (and pull and field-destroy the books), the stores also are to report to the publisher the number of the books they pulled. (This is generally done at a corporate level.) The publisher then credits the stores full cost of the books.

So lets say, MegaChain orders 8000 copies of the Bread Baker strategy guide for their stores in North America for say, $4 a piece. They owe $32,000 to Publisher X. Bread Baker being a big seller and a hard game, then sells 6000 of those 8000 guides, leaving around 2000 guides on the shelves when Publisher X issues the pull demand. Publisher X then issues MegaChain an $8000 credit for the 2000 unsold copies of the guide.

According to IAmTheCheapestGamer, some retailers also have deals where each copy of pulled titles sent to their recognized Recycling Centers are additionally issued further credit for being environmentally responsible in the manner in which they field destroy each book.

How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.

Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. If anyone is interested and able to help please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your consideration.

Thank you all for making CAG what it is and for all your contributions.
Picked up Oblivion, Tomb Raider and Enchanted Arms for trade.

Mainly looking for stuff from the last round of BB penny guides (HL Episode 1, WoW Atlas, etc...) but always willing to check lists and feel free to check my list of older stuff too.
Johnny, i've got a buttload of the HL2 EP1 & Mage Knight Apocolypse guides if you wanna trade some for the Oblivion & TR Legend, pm me if interested!
The guide that rings up at zero is the T-rated guide, and the one that's still $9.99 is the M-rated guide. Bethesda changed the rating on the game from T to M, and the guides were changed to match, with different ISBN numbers and UPC #'s.
My Oblivion guide was an M rated one, though it was the older guide without the black bar on the top of the front cover and had a sticker over the UPC code. I just picked out the older guide assuming that would be the one zeroed out. If the newer one also dropped, my Best Buy literally has stacks of them lying around that I could pickup for people.

It's possible due to error, but really, there's no way in hell they'd penny out the new one. The new one covers the stuff that'll be in the PS3 version, as well as all the DLC stuff. That's prolly why the old one was pennied/pulled, cuz for once, the "update" is actually updated, not just typos fixed.

I wonder why the stickers are over some but not others? Sheesh, it's only a matter of time before some jackass tries to take off the sticker and put it on a new version, thereby screwing everyone over.

Oh, and for anyone that cares, my tradelist link is finally fixed. Check it out and see if there is anything u guys want.

Working at Best Buy, there has still been no announcement or bulletin relating to this recent guide drop. So most stores or employees don't know about it. The sooner the better to find the guides on this one, cause us cheapies have the advantage for once.

As for the oblivion guide, i checked all of ours in store and the only ones that have dropped are the ones with the sticker over the upc. The new ones with the black bar on top are still full price. The older-style without the sticker over upc are still ringing up 9.99.

I can't believe they pennied out Oblivion at BB when they never even pennied out Morrowind Prophecies. I was waiting forever for a drop and then one day the Morrowind guides were just gone :(
good to see you are still surfing this thread!!!!
I try to check the thread out ever day, and I usually check for guide drops every shift (usually 5 days a week). But like I said, this one just snuck up, there was no notice at all at Best Buys anywhere, so this should be an easy one for us gamers to find because the only reason why a store wouldn't have them on the floor, is because they legit don't have any.

Yeah for some reason i couldn't find any tomb raider even though i swear there was a least a half dozen copies a few days ago when i was there!

btw, anyone want to do a 2 for 1 trade? I want one each of Tomb Raider and Oblivion for two each of my Enchanted Arms, Halflife 2 Eps1, Mage Knight Apocolyse or The Moviez game guide? We send at same time unless you have a much, much higher trader score and in that case i'd be happy to send first via media mail! Basically any combination of 4 of my guides for 2 of yours OR two of mine for one of yours! And shipping via media mail is cheap, only like $2 per big sized envelope!

All Guides ringup $10 each. I endup Scored Hitman: Bloody Money for $0.00 (Regular price is $0.01 in the system). I say Wow the price went backup so fast after 5 hrs. later. If you wanted the guy so bad you can lookup "Codes & Cheat" Fall Edition they have $5 off any Prima guide. That's why i scored Zelda: TTP LE version for $5 :)

The only codes n cheats book for .01 is that one with the big white cover. I don't recall the actual name on it, but I got a copy of it locally about 2-3 weeks ago. If you ever go into Blockbuster, it's the same rectangular cheat book with the Blockbuster logo splattered all across the front cover.

Secret Codes something or other, its a THICK book though.

I guess I should've stopped n pc'd a couple guides the other night when I was up by my local BB, but I was already running late and was out with family X-mas shopping. SO, I didn't stop at BB. :'(

Also, wtf is up with the .00 price now. And, arethe Codes n Cheats Fall n Summer guides also coming up .00 or what?

Time to go to BB and buy a pack of gum for a buck n get some free guides. I'm too much of a cheapass to pay for anything else at close to full retail anymore to 'hide' my penny guide purchases, not that I ever tried to buy anything else with my guides for a LONG LONG while.

The Kmart, Sears n penny guide threads have ruined me as anything more than a devil customer.

Sorry for the double post....

tried another best buy...got Tomb Raider Legend but still no go on Oblivion. None of the older editions had stickers on the UPC code...though one of the new ones did and it rang up $10, though I think that is the standard price for the new edition. Anyways, I might just pay the $10 for the new guide...it is a lot thicker. Anyways, I would still love it if anyone from the Massachusetts (particulary South of Boston) knew where I could get Oblivion guide for .01/.00. Of course, it could always be "pennied" out in my local best buys next month.

Well I managed to find a Zelda hardcover guide at a store that wasn't supposed to have any, but they were all cleaned out of these free guides. I'm looking for a copy of the Enchanted Arms guide - check my list if you've got an extra for trade.

dont know if this has been posted since this is the first time ive seen the thread.

free at bestbuy:
NCAA football 07
Kameo
NFL Head coach.

I managed to pick up an Enchanted Arms and an Oblivion guide today, both are up for trade. The Enchanted Arms guide has a very small tear on the lower edge of the cover and the Oblivion guide is virtually mint. PM if interested.

Got shot down trying to get a TR:L and Enchanted Arms guide + a $5 giftcard. Manager said they'd sell them for $8.99 a piece. Told em no thanks and walked out with nothing. It's too difficult to try and argue when it rings up $0.00 instead of $0.01 (at least in my eyes it is).

man my bestbuy doesnt pull any of them lol. i grabed like 20 of them and cause i work there i had my friend ring me up so i wouldnt get in trouble:lol:. i got a pretty good haul i got a couple of extra for some people on the board but i traded all the oblivions away(i kept one for me) if anyone need an Enchanted arms or guildwars factions guide(it was a penny 2) hit me up. pce
if anyone could help me find the coupon in the fall 2006 codes and cheats guide that would be great
Well the problem with it is that the coupon itself expires on the 24th.. so you'll have the weekend to use it if you manage to find it. It's located in the back of the book, behind the cover - a few that I've found had it torn out by someone already, so it could be that the ones you've found have been hijacked :). Either way the UPC is 050694158853 and the ISBN is 076153363 so good luck

ya i found one today that has it apparently some of them dont have it so thats why i couldn't find it last nite on the 2 i had thanks though

on a different note i found out why these are in the middle of the month
its not a drop its a sale that give you $10 off any prima guide so if you wanted to anyone giving you flak for trying to buy a guide can just take it cause its not clearanced its on sale for 0.00 since most employees (including myself) dont know about this that is why they are refusing and it is still on the website for 9.99 and the twilight princess guide is 9.99 so if someone tell you you cant just tell them its on sale and there should be some ad sign somewhere or just talk to a media employee

hope this clarifies things for everyone

happy hunting

OK, I messed up, Armageddon's guide is still $19.99 at BB, which makes it $10 with the $10 off. Same goes for Scarface and the other semi full price guides. :(

I just got back from the Best Buy in Novi, MI and they had several Oblivion guides. They are in the PC game section behind the newer updated versions of the guides with the updated with Knights of the Nine banner at the top of them. The wierd thing is that I grabbed two of them. One of them had a sticker over the UPC and rang up as $0.00 and the other didn't and rang up as $10.00 so I only left with one guide as I'm too lazy to go check for others. So be sure you grab the guides with the stickers.

There were also about 5 or 6 enchanted arms guides there if anyone wants one and is from the area.

I went by the BB in valley stream, NY they didnt have any oblivion guides. But they had maybe 4 enchanted arms guides I only took one so if anyone wants they still have them. The cashier didnt even give me a problem she scanned it it goes "this one's free" and she printed me a recipt and I left.

I picked up Oblivion (with UPCsticker) and Enchanted Arms both for $0. There were lots of other Enchanted Arms guides, so let me know if any one wants me to pick up some for them.

2 things.

1. Anyone nice enough to type out the UPC number on the sticker for the pennied Oblivion guide?
2. The new revised and expanded guide...

(

)

... is ringing up at $9.99?

I only ask because it looks like the $10 off Prima guides isn't across the board and the website still lists it at $19.99. Might be worth it at $5 after coupon if I can't find the pennied version.

Thanks!

And in case you guys didn't check out the Zelda thread...

Too bad I didn't find out about it earlier.

Asked over there as well, but if anyone would be kind enough to snag an extra Zelda Collectors guide (for 5 bucks after coupon), I'd very much appreciate it. Check my trade list or lmk what you want shipped for it.

Thanks

Got back from bestbuy. I have 2 extra tomb raider legend guides(still sealed) and 3 extra enchanted arms guides. I saw someone earlier in the thread had ratchet and clank: deadlocked guides, i would really like one of these if anyone has one.
2 things.

1. Anyone nice enough to type out the UPC number on the sticker for the pennied Oblivion guide?
I just wrote down the last 5 digits. They are: 14670.

I checked all the following guides to see if the come up as a 0.00 or 0.01 at two different BBs:

Lego Star Wars II
Madden 07
Scarface
Need for Speed Carbon
FEAR
MK: Armageddon
Splinter Cell: Double Agent

All rung up regular price.....

Yea, all Prima guides are $10 off, which is why penny guides are free. The ISBN for the free one was posted a page or two ago.

Picked up all the following guides for $2.0X using this baby repeatedly!! I can live with $2 for a guide. I was able to pick up an extra of each for trade except for TC:SC DA. Too bad this coupon expires tomorrow, I too wish I had discovered it sooner!

Lego Star Wars II (1 for me, 1 for trade)
Scarface (1 for me, 1 for trade)
FEAR (1 for me, 1 for trade)
Need For Speed Carbon (1 for trade)
TC: Splinter Cell Double Agent

Yeah, but I have a hard time paying more than $1 for these when I'll most likely be able to get them for $.01.

Pfft, good luck getting guides for .01 though, those days are long over :(

I mean, do we even know what EB / GS drops or when they drop anymore? They have the guides I *really* care about and now I end up buying from for full price or close to it (mostly RPG guides...).

I'm not gonna flip over, say, a Need for Speed Carbon guide, because even at a penny its still worthless.

That's what I was thinking too, but I concur with Roufuss on the days disappearing if not gone where a plethora of 0.01 guides could be had somewhat easily. So I picked up the guides I wanted and a couple for trade. $2 is about what it costs to ship media mail anyway when trading so I fig'd it's about equal.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. Where are all the GS/EB employees that used to post drops? I know most of the stores near me only have like 3 to 5 dif. guides out on the floor at a time anymore, but still...

The times at EB / GS are changing my friend... I think the days of getting penny guides from them is over.
