When asked if the orchestra conductor demo from E3 2006 would make an appearance, Reggie said "Who knows? Maybe that's one of the things we'll talk about at E3." He similarly dodged a Donkey Kong Wii question.
Fils-Aime said that Nintendo's post-E3 releases will be "maximizing all of our key franchises," teasing something the hardcore userbase will be frothing over.
What could it be? DUN DUN DUN
I think Wii Sports 2 and Animal Crossing will show their faces, but there's also the possibility of Zelda or some of the lesser known franchises like F-Zero or Kid Icarus.

I think its about time we saw something out of newly purchased Monolith Soft, Day of Crisis or otherwise.

Negative on Wii Sports 2. They're on record saying thats not how they want to do things.

+1 Day of Crisis. That was more than a tech demo and it just disappeared.
Any idea of where that was said about Wii Sports 2? Don't doubt you, but I'm curious since I frequent gaming blogs and whatnot and don't recall seeing that.

Given the success of Wii Sports, one would assume a follow-up would be guaranteed. However, in a recent interview with the Japanese game blog 1101.com, Nintendo president and CEO Saturo Iwata announced that Wii Sports won't come out anytime soon--if it comes out at all. "We're not going to take such an easy way, not by including seven new sports in the game since Wii Sports has five," he said. "We're not closing our doors to the possibility of a sequel, but it's definitely not coming out soon."

According to Iwata, a rushed Wii Sports sequel would only introduce incremental improvements that wouldn't be as fun for players. "If you start making such decisions without thinking, you start doing the easy stuff. You disengage yourself with the pursuit of true entertainment," he explained. Furthermore, Iwata said simply following Wii Sports with more-of-the-same gameplay wouldn't be in line with Nintendo's goal to expand the gaming market. "Our mission is to surprise people in a good way, and this became very clear as we made Nintendo DS and Wii. You can't open up a new market of customers if you can't surprise them."

Wii Play and Wii Fit are your spiritual sequels, as far as that audience is concerned.

I remember seeing that in an interview also, but I don't remember where. IIRC they said that they knew Wii Sports 2 would sell really well, but it wouldn't get people to buy a Wii since people were buying a Wii for Wii Sports 1, and they wanted to focus their development teams on something different that will sell Wiis to people not interested in Wii Sports.

Edit: Beaten by Dr Mario Kart with a link.

New Zelda, Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus.. let's throw out some off-the-wall random ones.. new Kirby, a Final Fantasy game, and, just for kicks, Donkey Kong Country 4.

I'm guessing Animal Crossing myself, but I'm really hoping it's Pikmin 3 or a new F-Zero game. I really like Animal Crossing, but it's one of my least favorite Nintendo franchises and would rather see something else from one of their other franchises.

Animal Crossing has already been announced so while I'm sure it'll be shown at E3, I don't think that will be their "big surprise." I'm hoping that Pikmin 3 gets announced, it seems perfect for the Wii.

Anyone else find it funny how Nintendo is against releasing a second Wii Sports yet they continue to churn out Mario Party after Mario Party after Mario Party that don't introduce much new?

I totally forgot that the Mario Party franchise even existed. While I doubt that the game Reggie was referring to would be Mario Party 9, I would just about go crazy if that was actually true. Who knows, though; Nintendo has had some disastrous outcomes when announcing "surprises" before.

Any of those would be amazing...Here's for a new Super Mario RPG!

Hm... lets see... last year it was Wii Fit. So I'm guessing this year it'll be something even stupider.

Wii Fit 2.

If they say Chrono 3 or a real Mario RPG (read: not Paper Mario, which while excellent, falls way short of SMRPG), my head would explode.

animal crossing should be a give in. theyve been talking about it for 2 years now.

i wouldnt be surprised if we see the first appearance of zelda for the wii. twilight princess came out over a year ago and nintendo has had a couple years to work with the wii now, so maybe we wiil see a little cgi teaser trailer.

my dark horse mystery pick... pokemon mmo for the wii. out of all the franchises nintendo should make into an mmo, i think pokemon is the perfect fit, ive never played a pokemon game, but if they came out with an mmo i just might start.

Animal Crossing Wii, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wii, Mario Galaxy DS, Donkey Kong Wii, F-zero Wii, and Mother 1-3 remade for the Wii with completely new graphics!!!

Actually, let's just go with the first two on that list.

I'm going with Punch Out or Kid Icarus. Reading between the lines of Reggie's "maximizing all of our key franchises," Nintendo might plan on using an existing IP and add a new formula to it.

Most likely: New Animal Crossing game (Fits the bill of attracting all kinds of gamers).
Possible: Earthbound Trilogy for DS/VC/WW, Pokemon G/S remakes for the DS, remake/sequel for Punch-Out or Pilotwings, Mario Golf/Tennis

I think it's disappointing Reggie implies that the big announcement is related to one of Nintendo's existing franchises. Doesn't it HAVE to be something entirely new if Nintendo wants to expand their audience? Fans may want a new Pikmin or F-Zero or Animal Crossing (although I personally don't care about any of them), but I fail to see how that's going to hook the masses.

What would most excite me is what I call the "Bionic Commando Rearmed" Channel, where everything is 2D but crafted with high resolution art and textures. How about a Mega Man 2 Powered Up in 480p widescreen from Capcom, a Simon's Quest Revisited from Konami, and R.C. Pro-Am Wii from Nintendo? Maybe the WiiWare channel is trying to accomplish the same thing, but I've gotten the impression it's more budget-type releases for the most part.

Since it's Reggie making the announcement rather than Iwata, I doubt it'll end up being something that has NoJ's fantastic devs behind it. So unless Retro is involved I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I'm thinking crappy licensed-out Kid Icarus game.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has the masses fairly well-hooked already.

It will be a Final Fantasy VII remake exclusively on the Wii.

What? :dunce:

Maybe it will be something cool like an Ocarina of Time remake with Twilight Princess graphics or something.

Alright my guesses:

F-Zero, Star Fox rail shooter, or Pikmin 3. Maybe a Wario platformer.... Or we could just take one of the SSBB characters that haven't seen a game in a while.

Darkhorse: Killer 7 sequel because No More Heroes sold so well!

Take the thing the makes the most sense and think the exact opposite, that will probably be it. So Project HAMMER it is!

I'll throw out some Wii Balance board supported game. F-Zero? 1080? Q-BERT?! This..
Wctmtitle.png

Or maybe more games like Smash and Mario Kart that will offer a gazillion control schemes but everyone will want to use the Cube controller regardless. How about a Wii Wavebird announcement? No wait that makes sense so it won't happen. Instead they'll announce the new shell - Shovel attachment for Animal Crossing! Or a keypad attachment to go along with Nintendo Pay to Play for inputing friend codes and item trade codes! Punch Out makes too much sense too so that won't happen. Maybe more bongo games that don't support bongos. How about arbitrary Mii games where you point, click, and drag to to your heart's content!?

I do expect to see a Pay to Play list consisting of Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter 3, and TBA. ;) I also expect to see some sort of answer to the memory storage limitations. An ideal situation would have Reggie unveil what looks to be a normal Wii, then he reveals that the different colored base is the new HDD attachment. Now that would be slick.

Y'all have lofty expectations for the guy who brought you *Wii Fit* as the highlight of E3's Keynote.

My guess? Mother Brain's Jazzercise.

They just released Soma Bringer in Japan. That's probably all from them for a little while.
New Zelda, Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus.. let's throw out some off-the-wall random ones.. new Kirby, a Final Fantasy game, and, just for kicks, Donkey Kong Country 4.
There are already 2 FF's on their way to the Wii. Not enough?

My predictions are: something that uses the balance board, Animal Crossing Wii, a Star Fox sequel, a DS remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver, and a big yawn from me.

Realistically I'm sure we'll see 3 things.

- Animal Crossing

- New game in the sports/play/fit lineup

- Zelda (Staring toon link...bet on it)

I wouldnt mind seeing a bit of Monster Hunter 3 or Fatal Frame 4, or even the Crystal Bearers.

A U.S. title for Oboro Muramasa Youtonden

Its few months too early for E3 speculation though....

I'm going to say Animal Crossing as well. Kid Icarus as a strong possibility with Pikmin 3 as a maybe. I'm sure about F-Zero this year because of Mario Kart Wii. I think that will be next year.

The purchase of Rare and the announcement that Banjo Kazooie (or whatever it was called) actually coming out this year and Rare has never been more eager to do a game since all they've been doing successfully has been involving pinatas on 360.

Alright, I'll quit dreaming

It's probably just an announcement touting how good Brawl is doing saleswise and promoting other games, how Nintendo is ever so surprised by the number of online users, and maybe a snippet on a game (enough, of course, to generate tons of hype and/or hatred among us)

Game being...Pikmin 3, F-Zero ?, Kid Icarus (in a full fledged Wii game!), Star Fox ?, SSX or 1080º (designed for the Wii Fit board)
