Put the disc in your PS3 and play via remote play. Holy Crap!

I know it was mentioned in the update thread, but good lord n' butter, this is one helluva feature.

Now if only I can figure out how to get the savefile I have for Xenogears from my PSP to my PS3 such that it will work as a standard save file, then I won't have to worry about ripping disc 2. I'll just put that bad daddy in the PS3 and wail away at their...oh, who am I kidding? I'll be watching cutscenes forever and a day. It's Xenogears.

That is pretty hot.

I hope they make it so you can rip your PS1 games to the PS3's hard drive. Might be some pirating issues with that, but for now, leaving one in the disc drive will work fine.

It's a big letdown to all the folks who pirate their PSX games, but to be quite honest, I'm now heavily considring going back to the regular PSP firmware. The only custom firmware thing I am interested in is PSX gameplay and some emulators - but I truly only use the NES emulator (outside of custom PSX bootables) with any regularity. I can sacrifice that for avoiding the headache of ripping games.

How long can you play the PSX game though? Until the battery dies? And how would this work with two disc games and vacations? Not so well.

That first two questions are a bit weak aren't they?

The second, I'm guessing your taking about games in the disc drive. You'll need to buy one of those Sony robots and have it change the disc for you!

Really, that is why Sony needs to increase the amount of titles on the PSN in the US and allow you to rip your games from the disc drive to the PS3's hard drive. :)

So does this work through a direct wireless connection between the PSP and PS3 (i.e. you basically have to be in your house to use it)? Or can you play whatever PS1 game you've got in your PS3 from any WiFi hotspot in the world?

I don't have a '3 or a 'P, so this is just pure curiosity on my part.

Remote Play = Wifi access from anywhere in the world (with Wifi access) to your PS3 via the PSP.

All right everyone, I'll show everyone what I did

Yeah, that one's pretty awesome. I've seen a Nintendo themed one that was cool too. Where are you guys finding themes at?
That's actually a pretty neat-o Kingdom Hearts theme. Where did you find that?
I found the theme here. I need to download more and search for more online (It has been a while since I've done so).

This freaking ROCKS!!!! Time to start buying some PS1 games from Ebay (Colony Wars here I come!).

I know there was mention of being able to play ALL of your games via this method but I'm not sure how they would do that. I started a thread a few months back ago on this subject but it got lost in the fray of everything else. My guess is either they would release an add-on for the PSP to get the analogs and more bumpers or release something to use your controller.

Either way, this is a great step!

EDIT: Has anyone tried this across the Internet? Last time I tried Remote Play to play a movie trailer across the Internet it was choppy as hell, can someone give some insight?
Theres a thread here with a bunch of neat themes, myke.

Also, how does this work? I put the PSX game in my That Triple, fire it up, and I can turn off my That Triple? Do I need to leave it on while I play?
Well, here's how it works.

If you connect to your PS3 directly or via private network with the PSP, you cannot turn the PS3 off remotely (since you are nearby the PS3). You have to set the PS3 in remote play mode manually (while having the disc inserted) and then you log on your PS3 with the PSP. When you are done, either quit remote play on the PSP or just turn the PS1 game off with the PSP.

If you use the worldwide remote play, then it's quite possible you can turn on the console to play a PS1 game and turn it off.

If I give a friend the ability to log in to my PS3 and I pop in a game, can he play?

Better yet, what if I pop in something like Tekken? If he and I both log in to my PS3 to play Tekken, what are the odds we could play two player?

Welcome back.

I'm guessing having my PSP link up w/ my That Triple, starting the game, then turning off my That Triple isn't an option?

This is really interesting cause I've got a whole fuckload of PS1 games I'd love to play early in the mornings before work and during lunch. If I could just load it on my PSP, then turn the system off and STILL be able to play the game, that'd be awesome

The way I understand it, you can turn your That Triple on and off using worldwide remote play, so you leave the disc in, play your PS1 game, and when finished, turn it off - all while away from home.

The worldwide remote play works even when you are nearby your PS3, but it will take time logging into your PS3 (since it has to verify your email and password).

First off, you'd have to connect your friend's PSP to your PS3 via USB, to register it to your PS3 console first. After that, you can have him login with your email and password.

Did they change this recently? I was always able to start up my PS3 remotely and turn it off remotely via the PS3 AND private network. The only time I tried was recently and it didn't work, then again my network light wasn't on in the front.

The reason I ask is because my PS3 is hooked up to the big screen in the living room and I would hate to loose that functionality when the wife is busy watching Gray's Private Practicing ER.

Is there a master account status on PS3, or are they all equal? I'd rather set him up his own account on my PS3 and have him log in via that.

I'm not sure whether the PSP you register links to one account or all accounts. I will take a look into it with my Japanese account. But if he has to register it with his name, it should work. I believe you can register more than one PSP, because I have two register and both work (from when I last tried, if I remember correctly).

EDIT: I just tried and it worked, but my PS3 turned itself back on.

I guess with this new feature, the only questions are about what PS1 games work well with the PSP's control scheme. I haven't played MGS in years, but I wanted to play it again and I'm guessing it's better to play it on the big screen. Though RPGs like FF7 would be great for this, right?

Depends on the game control wise. A remember a lot of games using the shoulder buttons to do the same thing so you only really needed 1 set. And I can't remember more then 3 games that required two analogs off the top fo my head.

Now, is this like Lair, where you aren't actually "playing" the game on your PSP, but it's running on your PS3 and you're merely controlling it remotely using your PSP? If so, can we expect to see PS2 remote play (at some point, of course, since they don't want to neuter PSP software sales)?

Or, rather, is it technologically possible?

Whenever I browse the net thru remote play, it's kinda laggy control-wise... Can the same be said for playing PSX games? I don't want to play laggy PSX games... :whistle2:#

Hmm...this may be a reason to ditch CF. I think right now the HB community is X.01, in terms of updates, behind Sony, at least for the fatty. I can probably wait and just be content with my own PS1 games on CF for now. But this is certainly a really cool feature.

Have you tinkered with your remote play settings? If you go to "communication settings" under the home button, you can fix that. I managed to get a better-looking picture as well as faster response time.

Now that I've gotten my custom firmware off and 3.80 on (whatta fuckin' PITA that was), let's see how Medal of Honor runs.

The real question is can you convert all your ps1 games using popsloader and put them all on your ps3 hard drive and play any game you want at any time on your psp when you have a wifi connection?

If they can make PS3 and PS1 on PSP, a PS2 is just as easy.. but they probably won't because A.) Only certain models play PS2 games and B.) They want us to buy the PS2.

Actually I expect it to happen sometime in the next year or two, after PS2 sales start dying down. They might do it just to compete with "Xbox Originals."

Question of the day! inquiring minds want to know ;) lol.

This would require CF to support remote play, and I am unsure if it does or does not, at the moment.

If they did anything like that, I think they'd make you put the PS2 game in the PS3 to copy it to the HD so that they had more of a chance of controlling illegal things.

PS2 games on the PSN would be about the only way though wouldn't it? I mean, Sony hasn't made a BC update for reading game disc in a long time and they aren't even supporting it in all of their systems any more.

Then if you start talking about remote play, you would have to seriously look at the control scheme much more then you would for the PS1. One good thing is if they did have the PS2 games on the PS3's HD, the file sizes wouldn't be as much of an issue with wifi streaming. Compaired to having to figure out a way to fit game on your memory stick.

Amazing feature...just tried out my FFVII and it works like a charm. The PS3 just keeps getting better and better! My only gripes are the lag and image quality, but that's a given since it's streaming.

Hmm, everyone seems to be testing this out with FFVII... A few of the game blogs plopped this in first too. We must have all kept our copies haha?

So when you play a PS1 game on your PSP (either locally or wifi), does the game play on the PS3 also? What I mean is that while your playing on your PSP, does the game play on the TV too? If it does, then would mulitplayer work, or would there be too much lag?

It doesn't play on the TV at the same time - I was testing it out in my living room last night. When using remote play, the tv screen says "remote play in use" on a black screen.

I'm going to test out the visuals and lag from my office today - I put FFIX in, so I can see if there are discernible differences between a disc-based RPG and one on the HDD (I bought Wild Arms from the PSN Store the other week). I may try Medal of Honor tomorrow to see how an action/fps holds up.

I don't see the big advantage here. The PSP can already play PSX game iso's. Why would I want to do it remotely? I think it is cool that it can, I can see if you are in a pinch, and can't get home to load up the iso, but in general, have the iso, locally on the psp would yield better performance I would think.

Well, you understand once you begin with the fact that Sony doesn't want you to make isos of your games. They don't mind with the ones they've made available on the PSN Store, but otherwise, of course they discourage that.

This is a suitable alternative for those who don't want to go to the trouble of making their own iso files, and helps Sony encourage PSP and PS3 sales - at the same time it further discourages piracy. Now I don't have to create an iso or load that shit with popstation - I can just put the disc in my PS3 and leave the house.

If they'd allow me to load my discs onto my PS3, that would be even better, so I'm not just limited to the games they offer on PSN + the one disc at a time that can go in the console.

Performance-wise, it's just fine. Fix your settings properly and there's next to zero lag, as well as surprisingly good picture quality.

All that said, my PSP wouldn't connect to the console from the office (though the same settings work fine at home). So I have to tinker with it for a little longer before giving any results for certain.

As Myke said, there are those of us who aren't into custom firmware that would still like to play our PSX titles on the go. I don't have the time to fuck with custom firmware and burning ISOs; so if I can simply throw a PSX game into my PS3 and play it from anywhere with a wireless signal I'm happy.

I posted a thread about this but hopefully someone in here can help me out with a solution. I'm trying to do what Myke is doing and that is play my PS1 discs from somewhere other than at home.

When I'm at home and connected through the network, Remote Start works fine, but when I turn Remote Start through the internet on, my PS3 just keeps turning on and off. Does anyone know why it's doing this?

I take offense to the piracy comment. I in no way condone piracy... hell I make my living in the games industry. But I have a box of psx games, that I don't fee I should have to pay for twice. I also enjoy checking out the odd homebrew title.

I have always though it would be nice to release official tools for people with psx discs, to make iso's for their PSP, but I guess the piracy would be hard to combat... thus you win. This is a nice feature to easily play PSX games on the PSP, and avoid the piracy issue.

I have my lag set fairly high, as it helps stream videos. I'll have to try minimizing the lag, for playing games.
