Renewing Xbox Live

Looking for cheap prices on renewing my subscription to Xbox Live. I see 12 + 1 cards on Ebay for as low as $25-$30 but in the descriptions, the seller says I cannot use them to extend my subscription (it is only for new accounts)? Is this true?

If so, what's my best bet on getting the best deal for a year?

it is absolutely true that those codes can not be used for renewal. these are unactivated cards and there is a problem in microsoft's system that allows these codes to still be used when a new account is created, but they will give you an error if you try to apply them to an existing account. their sources are likely quite shady.

sorry, don't know of any specific deals otherwise. frys.com generally has the best price @ $41.88.
