Replacement DS Shell Questions

Hello all,
I picked up the Red Hot Mario Kart DS Bundle a while back, and although I can tolerate the red, I'd rather have a light blue one. I'm sure a lot of you have seen these replacement shells floating around eBay and maybe even read the review.

There are some questions, however, that remain unanswered.

1. The warranty. From the diagrams I've looked at, I can't see any triwing screws under any labels that you would have to break (unless there is one under the battery). Would Nintendo know that you opened the console?

2. The serial. If the warranty was not voided by the above actions, and you had to send the unit in to Nintendo for a standard repair (dead pixel or something), would they reject it since it's a different color? Is the color reflected in the DS's unique serial?

3. New top - old back. Could I keep the original silver backing from my DS (with serial intact) and just replace the red parts with blue parts?

Any research I've done into the topics listed resulted in nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

As a side note, I'd be really interested to see an analysis of the DS serial number, to see if it reports what plant it was made in, the year made, etc. like the Xbox serial number does. (I'm not getting my hopes up).

I'd personally sell my DS and buy another one. Even though that's some work, it's less work to me than taking apart a DS and putting it back together with 3rd party parts.
