Hi,

I just got my hands for 60 dollars on a ps3 that doesn't read disks. After investigating I have come to conclude I need to replace the laser on this 80 gig unit. Now i want to go ahead and buy the assembly to get it working. So does anyone on cag have any experience at this...Places I can buy a reliable assembly at, etc?

Looking forward to replies.

Thanks.
There's two options I can think of.

Cheap, devious and all-round ill-mannered: Purchase a PS3 and return the one you currently have.

Slightly more expensive, but it'll get you in to heaven: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-g...lace-ps3-blu-ray-drive-laser-lens-100237.html

Hope I was helpful.
Ok sweet, this looks perfect. I was hoping for something like this. Seeing the tutorial it seems like im confident as long as I can put together my own pc i can replace the assembly. Thanks a ton.

Hi, I recently fixed my 40gb PS3. I had replaced the laser myself. There are different types of lasers between the different PS3 versions. The early models up to the the 1st 80gb systems had a single laser eye. The newer 80 and 160 have a dual laser eye(one for dvd/cds, one for blu-rays and PS3 games)

I had went though some shit trying to find a decent sell that was not selling the replacement parts at a premium, or that were selling "white" clips that seem to fail fairly quickly, my factory one from SONY was a white clip which failed on me after a year and about 2 months. The 1st seller I bought from sent a white clip(died in like 5 mins.) instead of a (desired)"brown" clip which seems to more reliable.

Either way, if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'd be glad to help!

I eventually bought a "brown"clip from this seller and it works great so far! It's a great price, free shipping, and 30 day warranty!
