Republican control over public broadcasting

Censorship goes both ways, realize. My history book has obviously been censored to protect political correctness, to make sure no one is offended ( gee whiz, let's take everything personal ). For instance, the Founding Fathers are now called the Founding Framers, probably to avoid being sexist. Except they were all men.

Whoops.

Also, you'll notice the extensive use of hyphenated titles: African-American, Native American, Hispanic-American. Since when do we have to tack on the extra "American" tag to people's race? Can't we just call them AMERICANS, for Christ's sake? I mean, whilst the Left calls them "Native Americans", I've heard that most, if not all, official Indians would rather be called just "Indians". It's present in most of their group titles after all. The point is, most of the 'anti-racism' groups are just as guilty of 'discriminating' against someone or a group by giving them these damn designations, and special benefits because they're one race or another. While there is a minute group of people who are unable to help themselves, just because you were born one way or another doesn't guarantee you special benefits.

The native community in the u.s. is essentially voiceless and probably the most neglected and powerless minority in the country, so I'm not sure how acceptable the term "indian" is among them. But, in canada, where they are the majority in some provinces such as nunavet (the less populated areas generally, they're harder to find in more densely populated areas), the terms used and preferred are "first nations", and aboriginals. Aboriginals is the most common, and the term "indian", while used sometimes, is vanishing and not really used by natives, government or any political or scientific writings. Though their visibility in canada may play a role in that, in the u.s. no one seems to know they exist.
I'd think that "natives" or "indians" (whatever) would prefer to to be known by their tribe, but what the hell do I know.
That's like saying I'd rather be known as from Naples instead of Italy.

I don't believe there is any problem with the word "Indian." They use it themselves in things like "Indian Country," etc. in BIA meetings. Personally I like the term "American Indian" for maximum accuracy in two short words. And I do agree that American Indians are probably the least well off of any ethnic group in the United States at this point in time.

I feel so bad for those native Americans. The multi-billion dollar casinos they've built in Connecticut, New York, Minnesota and California really make them voiceless.

It's every minority group's right and priviledge to use the well-meaning shame and contrition of others to get as much as they can. Jews got a country handed to them and nuclear weapons without having to adhere to UN standards. Blacks get affirmative action, rap and white women. Indians get to have casinos and whiskey fountains.

Umm....... do you honestly believe natives are wealthy?

My information about modern native americans is lacking, most of what I know of natives is from canada where there are more and, while pretty powerless, are much more known and vocal relative to the u.s. I know on u.s. reservations drinking is high, suicide rates are high, unemployment and crime is rampant, there is extreme poverty, and no one really knows or cares that those places are like that.

In college I lived with two people that used to live on reservations. They got checks every month, their schooling was paid for and they got free computers. How rough...

Not all indians are casino owners.

They only SAY that at your KKK meetings.

Ask them what they thought about life there.

One was a girl that was a spoiled bitch and the other was a pretentous ass... they were both narcistic alcoholics.

Conditions that are, for the most part, typical of any undergraduate college population. Your point?

Oh yeah I forgot, because some companies and a few small tribes are making millions, we can forget about the vast majority that are saddled with low educational levels, poverty and alcoholism, not to mention relegated to desolate reservations.

One almost had a degree at another college, but got expelled for some reason... the other one changed majors every 6 months.
