the sad thing is the price is higher then GOW 2 LE by 20 dollars more

I could be talked into getting the RE5 CE if some good things come with it. As for the SFIV CE.... I will buy it.

Sadly, the only way that these Collector's Edition prices are going to go down is if people stop buying them. They only jack up the price, because they can.

Dammit, I normally love these special editions but they're way overpriced and under packed. I doubt this'll be anything special other than a tin case, artbook, and a soundtrack CD.

Remember when the Limited editions were free to the first people who bought the game? (Viva Pinata, Mechassault 2, Jade Empire) Or when they were only $5 more? (Halo 2). those were the days. Gaming is getting to be more and more a rich man's hobby.

I disagree with this statement. At best, special editions are going to those with more money (and are willing to spend it). You are still going to be able to get the game for $60 at launch (and less if you are willing to wait).

What is happening is a segregation of the community, which happens in most industries. No one looks at $60k car and goes driving is only for the super rich. You can still get a used car for $1,000. As long as people keep buying these, they will sell.

Personally, I'll stick to to the regular editions, a few months after release.

I still have some faith in Capcom. They generally treat their fans pretty well. This is $10 more than the DMC4 Collector's Edition and I did enjoy the perks with that one (although the bonus DVD was pretty much worthless). I'm hoping for something nice, as the Resident Evil 4 Premium Edition is one I regard very highly.

Right, because cartridges were so affordable.

I agree that the rising costs of LEs is shitty but to say that videogaming is now less affordable than it used to be is simply inaccurate. The pricing structure of the PSX era (39.99 brand new releases) was the exception to the rule. Before that, cartridges pretty much started at 39.99 for "Player's Choice" titles and ran up to or above $100 for certain games (Phantasy Star IV anyone?). Since then, prices have been creeping back up but they still haven't reached SNES/Genesis era levels. It'll be interesting to see if 59.99 remains the standard next generation.

I won't buy this unless it includes the following.

-A real making of RE5 (which includes interviews, behind the scenes footage, video of meetings, story boards, concept art and so on)

-A two disc cd soundtrack of the game

-A fold out poster

-A Chris or that other chick figure. Heck even better if it's Wesker!

But heck at the most we will get a shotty making of bonus disc with 30 minutes of video :(

bah

My birthday is March 4th, so maybe I'll just ask for this and not have to pay anything for it!! :)

Unless the contents of the Collector's Edition are absolutely horrible I just wont be able to resist getting this one, and I don't usually buy Collector's Editions.

I'm hoping for figures of the two main characters, a making of DVD and a CD soundtrack.

Yeah, $90 is getting up there. Must have soundtrack, some geeky replica (gun, figurine, gun shell, badge...something!), a making of DVD, exclusive gamerpics, maybe in game content, art book. all of the above to warrant that price.
It'll include an vile of the T-Virus.
Only way they will get me to spend $90 on a CE of any game again.

I'll buy it right there, smash the vile on a clerk, watch him eat the other clerk and steal my money back. :>
fuck that. $60 still feels steep for games (since RE5 is going to be day one for me), I'm not dropping an extra $30 on it.
QFT.

I splurged on GTA4, because it's one of the only reasons I wanted a current-gen console. RE5 is the other half or 3rd of it. Otherwise, $60 MRSP is the most absurd thing ever.

For the record, I didn't really buy new games at $50, either.

i was about to post how outrageous the price is but then i realized that of course, you don't have to buy it. for obsessed fans and collectors i'm sure this is good news
comes with your own personal parasite
Parasite on your wallet...

The price may just be a "placeholder" until further details are released. There's still quite a few months until RE5 is even out.

So true... they just keep getting more and more expensive... they make the Bioshock LE seem like the deal of the century

Strategy guides have been doing the same thing 12.99... 14.99... 17.99... 19.99... and up

I loved RE4 so much Im really torn about this... but then again I just want to play it

Hopefully they'll make so many I'll be able to get one for $30 or less when it becomes a greatest hit (assuming I buy it at all, I thought 4 was good but nothing special and I'm skeptical of the co-op crap).

Features include:

--half assed "making of" video with no real insight into the game
--cheap tin box with a really tacky graphic on it. has an awkward shape.
--a bunch of trailers that you've already seen.
--the regular game case with a black and white 3 page manual inside the ugly tin case
--a commemorative RE5 plastic coin.
--RE5 temporary tattoos

Pre-order today!

Couldn't tell if you're being serious or not. Are the details listed anywhere online yet? I couldn't find it.

That about sums it up, when Halo 2 came out IGN speculated it was actually setting a bad trend by showing people were willing to pay more for special editions, so far they have been proven correct. It ballooned from there. I have only gone out of my way to get two special editions, Ace Combat 4 with Flight Sticks and Ace Combat 6 with Flight Sticks, those felt like they were worth the money.

Except that Halo 2 was only an extra five bucks and the metal case was worth it.

For me anyways.

I'm a huge Resident Evil fan and even I am not buying that. In fact I have never purchased a Collector's edition version of a game. That crap is just going to take up space in my house and make me look even more like a dork then I already am. Hell, with those $30 extra dollars that you're spending you can buy a brand new PS3 greatest hits title.

He's being deadly serious. Capcom has officially pledged to limit these to 5000 units per region so you better get in on this if you haven't already. I already pre-ordered my copy!

Maybe it's best to spend that extra $30 on the CE, then.

I can't reveal my sources.

All I can say is...look forward to 9/9/09.

I don't know what the hell your talking about but I'm getting this on March 13th.

Heres the thing that really pisses me off. These collectors editions SUCK! I dont mind spending $80 on a collectors edition but I expect several decent items with them. It better come in a collectors tin or atleast cardboard case. Soundtrack is a given as is a collectors DVD but outside that I expect something like a decent sized(atleast several inches tall)figurine or a series of cool collectibles. Most of these CE are just a special box and an extra DVD tossed in which is just bull shit.

I could care less about these prices. I encourage 500 dollar collector's editions actually, if it's going to help the franchises.

Luckily I don't feel the need to get them at all. What would piss me off however is if they put extra gameplay into the CEs, hopefully they don't do that....uh oh...I'm giving them ideas...
Well, better that than Resistence at least.
I haven't played Resistance but judging from the reviews it got (9's and mid to high 8's) that doesn't make sense.
Guys, if you want the prices to go down.........

Stop buying the collector's editions
Hey, look! The voice of reason amidst a bunch of pissing and moaning about people who aren't able to quell their willpower, yet feel compelled to bitch about the people who seem eager to exploit their financial spinelessness!
