I wish the color was a darker red, but this is a pretty good deal since they are giving all this without any markup from the price of the elite.

I've searched through this thread and didnt find an actual answer to this, so my apologies if a repost:

If I have an Elite 120 already, can I just plug it into the RED Elite and then do the license transfer thing on XBOX.com? I wouldnt have to download anything cause my stuff would be on the HD already. Anyone actually do this? Both HD's also look identical correct?

Well I've already had the system freeze up 4 or 5 times on me, in very limited time playing it. My old 360 used to do this pretty often, but has been pretty good after returning from the RRoD. Yesterday I was hooking it up to my Surround system and the dongle that lets you use optical out with HDMI has something rattling around inside of it. I didn't have time to fully test out the audio, but I can't say I'm thrilled with this system so far.

If the freezing up continues and I decide I don't want to deal with these types of issues right out of the box, can I return directly to amazon to get my $$$ back or will they force me to go through MS?

This really stinks that so many people are reporting issues with this :(

What's weird too is someone on Amazon CLAIMS they have a new 60GB model, that was a first/second gen unit. Who knows if they actually know what they're talking about, but they did know about the plug on the unit and such...

I jumped on the Dell deal.
Question.
I currently have a Pro system with a 120GB drive.
I am trying to decide whether to swap the drives or move the license/games saves over to the new.
For people that have the red elite, is there any content already on the drive when you turn it on?

The console has the same standard demos, videos, themes and gamerpics on it that all the consoles/HDD come pre-loaded on them. all standard stuff that can be downloaded again from the marketplace or tranferred over if you really want them. The bonus content (theme/game) all are unlocked via a code and downloaded from the marketplace.

Personally, if I got a new one and was going to sell or give away the old one, I'd transfer stuff to the new drive, just 'cause statistically the new drive will last longer. (Of course there's always a chance you'll get a fluke drive that will last 10 years, or 10 days...)

Also, the drive on the Red Elite is black (just like the other Elites) if you are concerned about them "matching" you will want to transfer (unless you have a used Elite hard drive, like I did)

Yeah, I would personally return it if the system froze on me multiple times. I've been testing mine extensively for over a week, and have had no problems at all with RE5 or the system itself (I think it should work perfectly if your system isn't defective)

You should be able to return it to Amazon directly (I don't see videogame systems listed under their exclusions in their return policy). It looks like they will also cover return shipping as well if item is defective. (described under 'using our return mailing label')

I thought the story was that if you already did one transfer, lets say 20 HDD to 120HDD, then you would not be able to transfer from that 120 HDD to a different 120 HDD.

It will work but you can only access your XBLA downloaded games when you are logged into XBLA. If you do the license transfer, you will have access to the games even if you are not logged into XBLA.

just got my first 360 from amazon today and it appears my disc is messed up too. (case was fine though) Tried playing it straight off the disc and it said unreadable disc when the first zombie attacks the duo. Tried twice to install it horizontally and it said dirty disc at around 38%. Tried installing it vertically and got to 48% b4 it said that the disc was dirty. Checked the disc and it's in mint condition.
Installed COD:WaW on the first try with no probs.

what to do? return the whole dohickey to amazon or bear with it and reload whenever it freezes. arggggh

My current 120 HDD is store bought with the transfer cable and I already did the 20 gig transfer.
Looks like I will do the license transfer online, then copy my game saves over with my memory card.
I'd probably ebay my 120 gig after, what is the best way to erase it?

You do NOT want to play this game that way. It's got some painful/frustrating sections, and getting a DRE right after or during one of those will drive you mad.

Yeah, I agree. If you can't successfully install the game like some of us have to circumvent the problem, I'd just return it to amazon. It took me two tries to install it horizontally btw.

Is this just the disc is manufactured poorly? Or is it the drive? What's going on?!?

If it is the disc, why to 360 discs so often appear to be poor quality? I mean many (most?, all?) 360 discs I get have visible...weird stuff on them. I've never, EVER had a disc for another system look like that, and only once had an issue like that with a normal DVD (one of my Buffy Season 1 discs had a visible issue similar to what some/most/all 360 games have, and it wouldn't play right on my older DVD player).

In this case, it seems to be a combination of the disc and drive. I know some people have just exchanged the RE5 game disc and that solved the problem. Then some are saying they returned it and that still didn't fix it. I don't think any of us really know...I'm not sure if Microsoft or Capcom know either.

My friend let me borrow about 7 of his games and they all look and play perfectly on my red elite. I pop RE5 in without HD installation and it spins like it's going into overdrive and makes loud noises. The system just doesn't like the disc for whatever reason. None of the other discs I've tried have this problem.

I put in some more time with the RE5 system last night and things went well for the most part. RE5 loaded with no problems, but I didn't play much outside of loading up my progress to test it out. I was playing with my 120 gb HDD from my other system so I already had RE5 progress saved. I hadn't installed the game though.

Also the sound appeared to work fine on the system despite the rattling noises coming out of the HDMI/Optical-out dongle. I'm thinking if I'm really paranoid about it I can just call MS and have them send out a replacement instead of returning the entire console to amazon.

Later in the night I did have the system not recognize one of my discs. When I closed the tray the disc wouldn't even spin up and on the dash my only option was to "open tray". This disc does have some cracks around the center opening, but it plays with no issues on my other system. This was a problem I used to have on my pre-RRoD system.

Finally I remembered the other day when I was having freezing issues, it was when I was playing MLB 2K7 online, and IIRC the online there was pretty hit or miss.

Either way, I'm going to put in some more time with the system over the next few weeks prior to the return window closing and go from there.

If you missed out on this system and still want one, I just returned the one I bought from Amazon and it may or may not come in stock in the next few days. Good luck.

has anybody tried "boiling" the disk? I had to do it with a transfer kit disk and seemed to solve the problem. Might be worth a shot especially if you plan on trying to exchange the disk anyway.

(dunk it in boiling water for 5 seconds)

I'm actually in the market to get one of these consoles since my Opus just died and CS wont honor my service contract anymore which ISNT EXPIRED!... yah I know I shouldn't be so dedicated to a console that has broken on me 4 times now, but I have invested too much.

The funny thing is, when I get this I'll probably turn right around and sell RE5 since I have no interest in it. So hopefully next month this console will be somewhere on the market still. I really just want a guaranteed Jasper, and the addition of the street fighter game helps lol.

So is that the only problem people are having with this? The disc not working properly.

I've only heard about problems with the RE5 game not working/installing correctly, unreadable discs, and system freezing. So far, I have not encountered any of those problems with mine.

I tried boiling my new 360 like you guys said, and now it's not working at all ... =-(

It was hard finding a big enough pot in the first place ...

Uh oh. You guys should've had a lawyer write you up some waterproof (no pun intended... but still awesome) disclaimers. Bring on the civil suits!

Well-played, sir.

Is anyone interested in selling their SSF 2 and RE5 theme card that came with the console? I am looking to return my console and my wife redeemed the code before she knew I decided to return it. I obviously would need the unused physical card mailed to me. I can send you the money from paypal.

Any help would be appreciated.

:applause:

I wonder if anyone (being pissed off at the RROD) would ever actually attempt that and put it on YouTube :lol:

I've seen people smash things before, but boiling would be a new one

Could use some help/feedback from you guys. Sorry if this is the wrong thread for it.

My launch 360 just got RROD, so I sent it in for repairs. In the meantime I grabbed the last RE Xbox bundle from my local blockbuster. I don't plan to open it until I know what I am gonna do with my old one.

Reading the last few pages of the thread seems there are issues with the RE unit. Since I haven't been following this thread and would prefer not reading 40+ pages, can anyone tell me how much of an issue this really is? Should I be worried?

Also, I already own RE5 and SSFIITHD. Plan was to sell these and my repaired xbox ($150?) on craigslist to make up for the difference.

Any feedback at all is appreaciated. I'm freaking out a little about this whole situation and the negative feedback I read on the RE 360 has got me a little paranoid. Thanks.

I finally got me RE5 bundle copy to work on my white Xbox 360

I tried 8 times to install it to my hard drive but it would freeze at 44%. Then I simply stood my System up vertically and it installed to my Hard Drive the first time. A huge sigh of relief as now the Disc Read problem is irrelevant. I almost punched a hole in the wall when the version I bought off Ebay was the bundled copy.

I purchased one of these bundles and received it on 03/12/09. After playing any game for about an hour the sound goes out completely and does not turn back on. Do I send this back to microsoft for servicing or send the whole thing back to Amazon. I am confused on what to do.

Mine just come D.O.A. what sucks hard core, I have to give my old 360 to my sister kids in the next few day! I might run out and grab one for mejiers just to have one for the weekend. Very sad
This Jasper news makes me even happier I decided to upgrade to an Elite!
I got mine today, took 1 day to ship... NICE.... and its QUIETER than my Elite from a year ago, I am 99% sure its a jasper, awesome deal!!! thanks for the deal dell!

They are all Jasper models. I notice its a bit quieter than the Falcon I had especially after installing to the hard drive.

Why only 99%?

Just check your Power Supply and if its 150W or if the Amps on the back of the console says 12.1A then its a Jasper, no doubt about it (not even 1%).

Got my Elite from Amazon when they were first shipped and finally got around to playing Resident Evil 5 and of course I find that I got one of the bad discs that wont load. Every time I tried to play I would get a disc error. A friend of mine lent me his working copy to play and I find the game so-so anyways.

Contacted Amazon and they gave me three options:
Return the entire bundle for a new bundle.
Return the entire bundle for a full refund.
Keep the broken game disc and get a 20% refund which comes out to $80.

Can you guess which one I picked? :D

Did you try this salvage option (besides the boil it suggestion)?

Install your friend's version to the hard drive.
Put in your Red Elite version and try to play from the hard drive.

Otherwise, and I am normally against any type of fraud but you have no real choice...

Spend the $5-8 to rent it at Blockbuster and tell them "It doesn't work".
Although, it has been a long time since I rented from them, they may mark up the physical game discs.

Or go through the hoops of swapping it at Best Buy.

It'd take the 80 bucks.

How is that fraud? He had a legit problem, like a lot of us had. Its even more fair since Amazon does not even have the RE5 bundle in-stock currently.

I never said what he did was fraud, reread my post.
I was saying one of my methods of fixing the problem could be considered fraud.

I think he has a legitimate issue.

You guys have all got me terrified to open my RE bundle. First the stiff power button, then I know a guy who bought one from Gamestop and the little USB door on the front was missing. He took it back and got another one and it had the missing USB door as well. So he called Microsoft and they are supposedly sending him a red faceplate to replace the one he has.

Since I've already beaten Resident Evil, it doesn't really matter to me if my game works or not because I'm not going to open it anyway, but I am concerned that if I sell it to someone on Ebay or even locally that it won't work.

To be honest, after reading this thread, I am leaning towards returning mine to Gamestop and just getting my money back. As much as I wanted a red one, I don't know if all the hassle is worth it should something be wrong out of the box.

The power button does seem a little stiff on mine but that's not a big deal.

I admit I haven't played it a TON but things seem fine so far (knock on wood). Haven't tried the RE disc, though, I admit. ;)

I think overall the problems reported here are pretty easy problems, really. It's not like too many people are reporting DOA systems or something.

Sent mine back to amazon today :( Stupid Xbox 360 and sound issues. I did beat RE5 however before I had to return the whole thing. Very dissapointed. Shame on you Microsoft!!

Oh yeah, my power button is too stuff too. Still works though! Plus you can always turn it on and off with the controller.

This is exactly the situation I am in, not sure what to do with the system. I'm honestly hoping for a price drop announcement, maybe in the next week or so.

If you want a red RE system, I think buying from Dell is currently the best option. Kinda wish I'd waited so I could have saved a bit.

They had them in stock a few days ago, and the code worked when buying it, but they quickly sold out. I'm talking less than 10 hours.

I suppose that they might get them in again, but I wouldn't take it for granted that they will. I've been waiting a month now for them to get the 360 Arcades back in stock, and those aren't limited editions like the RE Elites.
