thx, thats what I was thinking, just really didnt have the cash for a 2nd controller, oh well atleast the system kicks some @ss!
ya, it only sticks part of the time and makes a loud squeaking noise, it's definately the stick
I know this is YMMV but back when I bought my launch 360, I contacted MS about my controller, said it was defective, and they sent me a brand new free controller. Didn't even have to send mine back. I recommend trying that route first.
Is there really any benefit to having the onboard memory of the arcade units?

I'm looking for any reason NOT to get the RE5 elite, because I really don't need it...
The Jasper arcade units need the onboard memory because they don't have a HDD to store the NXE. The Pro & Elite don't need the memory because they already have a HDD.
Amusedtoe you seem to be the only one reporting widespread problems, unless I'm missing the discussions at other forums?
We could have gotten a bad batch, it's possible and it happens. None the less I'd want to know if someone saw this even if it was isolated so at least I was an informed consumer. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from buying one, I love the red system and wish I could buy one myself with a clear mind on the matter. Sure I could get a warranty but defeats the purpose to just end up with a black one. If I'd thought about it I should have seen if they were a consistent string of serial numbers at least which would probably have helped identify if it was a bad section of PCB or line worker.
ya, it only sticks part of the time and makes a loud squeaking noise, it's definately the stick
I had that issue and sprayed the stick with silicon spray to lubercate it and stop the squeaking.
I had that issue and sprayed the stick with silicon spray to lubercate it and stop the squeaking.
Had the same issue but it went away after about 2 weeks use. Same with my brother. Boy was it annoying though.

fuck me, just listening to the reports so far and I'm SOOOO glad I held off on ordering one of these. Damn though, I want a nice, deluxe, loaded 360, but this is ridiculous. I'm so sorry for you guys that are reporting these horror stories.

My old original XBox is still ticking just fine, why the hell can't they put out a reliable X360???

lol "horror stories".

mine arrived in perfect condition.
the only "problem" i had was the first time i put in the disc, it took forever to load. i read through that entire history of Resident Evil, thinking that was just a shitty intro. restarted, installed it to the HD, and its been nothing but smooth sailing. now the loading screens are barely on for 3 seconds. Not long enough for me to read them....

as of right now, i could not be happier with this purchase.

Well mine arrived perfectly. I have been playing since Thursday March 12th. Today while playing COD 4 the sound completly went out. Actually happened twice. Had to power off then power on to make the sound work again. I am starting to worry.

I've been playing around with mine since the 12th(thanks Amazon Prime ^_^)

Works perfectly...

January 2009 born
BenQ or Lite-On (my cellphone light isn't strong enough so I can't tell if the wires are white or yellow)
yes, my RE5 case has a small crack =(
it does not come with onboard jasper arcade memory AND it did not even have NXE installed on the HDD
No problems with dvd drive, re5, or console whatsoever. It is extremely quiet and re5 loads so fast I always miss the history load screens.

Same here!
ok this sounds a bit rediculous, but i called best buy's customer support line and asked about the product service plan and product replacement plan. she said they don't even do the product service plans for video game consoles now.. they're forced to give you an exchange or a gift card with the amount you paid. no idea if she knew what she was talking about though.
They don't do PRP's anymore.

The reasoning they gave me when I exchanged my last console was due to the extension of the RRoD warranty. They said that their Black Tie Protection basically acts as a middleman. They take your console and send it themselves to microsoft (lol), and get it back to you.

Should be noted, that I exchanged for the Forza/MVA bundle. The case was manufactured in May of 2008, and the game case was not cracked.

Only question I'd have here is if this is common for the GAME or is it a real hardware problem (DVD drive, disc).

If its common for the game because the game has huge files and if its not installed it'll take forever, then fine, but if not, then its not fine.

Has anyone here NOT installed the game to see if each and everytime you play the game off the disc (which was the only option a few months ago) you have the 20 minute wait for it to load?

While not much of a "deal", if you were in the market for a new 360 system and a 2nd controller, it is not the worst thing in the world.

For Today and Monday only, Best Buy.com is offering a $40 gift card with the purchase of ANY 360 system and a second controller...The controller prices are standard list prices, so that's pretty steep compared to the $35-40-ish that one can usually find at buy or amazon.

THIS ALSO APPLIES TO THE RE 5 BUNDLE as well.

The deal is online only but it is not clear if it requires shipping the system or if you can buy it online and then do a store pickup. The gift card looks like it will be shipped and isn't available for store pickup.

You beat me to the punch. I actually needed a second controller and battery so I ordered the RE5 Bundle with the matching red controller. I already have the RE5 bundle but didn't open it and now have taken it back because I thought I would wait a few days to see if any deals came up and this did. I needed the second controller anyway and with no tax in Alaska this is a good deal.

That's just the game installing its cache files. Installing the whole game to the HDD would circumvent the problem.

I wanted to post something of note too with this bundle that I noticed and just forgot to post it.

The SSF2HD game that is bundled apparently works across all profiles on the system you register it with. I was a little aggravated with myself when I originally entered the code in because I did it on my girlfriends profile, so I thought only her profile would have access to the full version of the game where as mine would only be able to play the trial. Not a HUGE deal or anything, I mean I could just sign on to her's and play and it really wouldn't bother me. But, I can also play the full version on my profile. Where as every other arcade game I've downloaded on my system, the profile it's bought on can play full, where as the other can only play trial. So it seems as if this is some sort of "universal" code for the system it's bought on, or something. Unless someone else has another explanation.
Well, after two days of having my wonder RE 360, it has already RROD on me. Just fantastic.
Surprised it took this long for someone to come along and make this claim
Surprised it took this long for someone to come along and make this claim
I will put money on it. I can post a video of it red ringing. It was right in the middle of RE5 Chapter 1-1.

I am by far a Sony fanboy. I actually prefer Microsoft.

I am returning it VIA Amazon because Microsoft just takes too damned long.
That's just the game installing its cache files. Installing the whole game to the HDD would circumvent the problem.
Cool. Under that circumstance then its a specific game issue and it wouldn't matter if you bought it alone or with this bundle, you'd have the same issue.

Unless someone comes in here and says they bought the stand alone game, and without installing it and just running it off the disc, it didn't have the same loading problem and it loads fast. At that point it'd be something to look into, but if not, then its something thats being overblown.
Microsoft used to put the game case in one of the two folded cardboards that cushion the console in the box. The cardboard has a special slot where they put the game case in, although part of the game is sticking out of the cardboard.

Are they still using the same design in the RE box?
Yeah. The flaw in the design is having a heavy game system pushing against it during shipping.

WTF?!
Sorry to hear that, man.

I thought the new Jasper units were suppose to be "more reliable"....guess not.

Here it is. Right in the middle of RE5. Not too happy about it. Went through Amazon to get a new one. HOPEFULLY, it won't happen again.

Ironically, I was lucky enough to get a 360 at launch. Same exact thing happened to me then. Three days after I had it hooked up, BAM, RROD.

People asked for proof and you supplied it. :applause: It is amazing to me that with all of the jokes about it, it happened less than one week after the release.

I'm not being critical, just observing, but does that entertainment center give enough room in the back of the 360 to get air circulation? Hard to tell from the video.

Not really. Every piece of hardware, even the most well-built, has some sort of failure rate. Sometimes, you're just going to get a dud, unfortunately.

This doesn't make sense. All 360 SHOULD be the same. Aren't they manufactured by machine? Unless the machine made a mistake, the 360 should be failure-proof. The person had to have had it red ring by not having it ventalized or something. Because all 360's out of the box are in perfect condition. It makes no sense how one brand new 360 would die while another brand new 360 still works because they were all built flawlessly. I don't see how there are still launch 360's that are still in perfect working condition- it depends on how you treat your console. That's the only explanation.

I had to!

I'm just teasing...but we all knew this was going to happen to someone. :)
LOL, I had to laugh at that myself.

Yes, it is in an entertainment center. However, it is open and has plenty of room in the back and for ventilation. Trust me, i have been through this before. My old 360, well, my 4th 360 was in there for two years.

Proper ventilation is a joke my friend. This was the same exact spot my old 360 was in for two years. You can't tell, but there is plenty of ceiling height and ventilation room.

You're talking about the 360 or any piece of electronics like they are wooden horses. It's a little more complicated than being put together properly. You need to take into consideration the design and the components that go into the system. To begin with, all components are going to have a failure rate, as well. So, a certain amount of the CPUs, GPUs, memory, etc that into the system will fail. Then, the design of the system will determine how long it lasts and how much use it can withstand. And according to most reports, the 360's design was fucked from the start, which is why so many of them failed over the years.

The freakin sega genesis still runs to this day. So does my dreamcast. If all components have a failure rate, then all 360's would fail at the same exact time. Didn't Microsoft KNOW that they included cheap heatsinks when releasing the 360? Why is that so hard to fix? Apparently 3 years isn't enough fucking time to resolve this? Now I'm scared shitless to turn on my re5 elite now. fuck.
Did you play it for many hours yesterday?
Honestly, didn't play it at all yesterday. 2 - 2 1/2hours Thursday night. About 10 minutes today.

I am going to be liberal with my playtime and say 3 hours MAX.

OMFG

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not at you RugbyJimmy, just the situation of the 3 red lights (I still havent opened my RE5 bundle yet and my other 360 is still getting repaired)

But damn I just had to laugh so hard that I almost pissed my pants....it was either that or I was going to scream just from sheer madness. :bomb:

Dude, I laughed too. It is freakin' funny.

Spread the video around the internet for all I care. I think it is priceless. Emailed Microsoft with the link. LOL.

I would be mad, but this is the fourth time it has happened to me. Luckily, I still have my old 20g that I replaced. I can play, just not with the new one.

Amazon is shipping me a new one. I refuse to wait for Microsoft...AGAYN!

I may be wrong here, but I thought the RROD spins around? The video shows them just flashing. Don't the flashing red lights mean the video cables aren't plugged in?

Touche, you must have some terrible luck my friend. This probably doesn't matter but the 2 360's I have both red ringed with I had them horizontal too. When I got my black Elite back, I've had it vertical the whole time and haven't had any problems. Can't imagine why that would matter but who knows. Don't think you should be pushing your luck :D

Not sure if you are correct or not. It worked before. I checked all the cables several times. It actually did that in the middle of playing.

Yeah I just didnt want you to think I was a dick bro. Like I said, when I first saw your video it was either laughter or pissed off maniac reaction and my wife thanks me for choosing laughter.

Ughh...I feel your pain brother.

Here's to hoping that your next one is solid....or at least solid enough to last a few good years.

this is ridiculous. We as a consumer need to take a stand against microsoft.
I bought this Resident evil xbox to replace my 4 yr old Xbox that died on my 2 months ago.

It seems like they continue to produce defective systems.

This video of the RROD should be posted all over the internet.

Nah, I would have laughed too. I will keep my fingers crossed for everybody else.

In the end, I would rather it happen to me than anybody else. Does it piss me off? Absolutely. Of course, this isn't the first, second, or third time...soo, I just kind of take it in stride.

The "OWNED" image was awesome.

Am I the only one not suprised the Jasper Red 360's are already red ringing? 360's have been made horribly, and its going to stay that way.

I own one btw.
