I tried to fix it by clearing the cache, cookies, etc. but nothing seems to work.

It seems like any site with some form of log in results in a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error.

I figured she needed to update IE or something but the Microsoft Update site is inaccessible as well, most likely due to the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

POST #9 was the successful solution, thanks to Murphem.

You're using WinXP?

Try reseting the internet settings and the security settings. Try firefox.

Are you connected to a router? Do you have a firewall installed? Are there any spyware/anti-virus/safety things installed? If so, try closing them all.

She's on Windows XP on a Vaio, she is on a wireless connection (tried plugging it in also). Her firewall is off, her anti-virus software (from norton) all expired so they aren't doing anything, I have turned them all off as well.

Is this a home connection?

Try connecting the Laptop directly into the cable modem if it's connected to a firewall.

Try FIrefox and reset all the security settings of internet explorer.

Is Javascript on/off?

Stupid question - but what's the error message or response when you try to sign in?

You need to run an antivirus scan first. This one's free:

Make sure you are getting an IP address. Go to Start, Run, then type CMD. type "ipconfig" and hit enter. Let us know what that returns.

Considering you said your gf had Norton's perhaps you are having the same problem as I and my gf did.

Suddenly, one day both of our expired Norton's stopped loading their drivers at start-up. I would click ok and be annoyed, but didn't think anything of it. That was until I noticed that for some odd ass reason I could not connect to any secure sites. What I ended up having to do, which worked for both our computers was use liveupdate in Norton, and when it prompted me to resubscribe just click skip and download all the other updates it can without a subscription. I don't know what all of a sudden this happen or what it had to do with connecting to secure sites, but that's what worked for me.

Hope it helps.

Thanks a ton Murphem, that was exactly the problem. I couldn't figure out the connection between Norton, the Error messages and the failing Yahoo. That did the trick.

Thanks to everyone else, mods can lock this if need be.

Glad you got it to work, that reminds me, I need to be replacing my Norton here in a few days.

I guess I could ask another question.

My Norton Systemworks subscription never runs out, every time I reinstall the program I get 366 days.

I reformat once or twice a year. Seems strange.

Ya, seems to be that way with all Norton products, if you reformat, you can do a fresh install of the program and another year of subscription. My sis had some pretty big errors on her computer, so I reformated it, and reinstalled Windows XP, when I went to reinstall Norton Anti-virus it restarted the year subscription from the beginning. They must putting something on your hardrive to monitor when your year subscription started instead of having servers which identify when a product ID code is first used.
