Sorry if this is the wrong section, but I couldn't really figure out where else to put this.

So about a few months ago my friend gave me his copy of Just Cause 2 for 360 as he sold his console, but I only recently got around to playing it. It had a ton of light scratches on it, but I tried it anyways and it worked for a little bit. Now I'm at a point in the game where I have to scale a tower and it freezes every time in the exact same spot and I've tried it probably 8 times. So my question is what is the best way to go about resurfacing this thing? I don't want to buy a disc doctor as its $20 and for that much I can get a new copy of the game and this is the only disc I have issues with. Does blockbuster or gamestop resurface games?

Install the game after a temporary toothpaste/car polish rubbing. Installing it is the only way you'll know 100% that it won't continue having issues. If it still does after an install, then it's a glitch in the game rather than your disc.

I seriously don't recommend using toothpaste on your discs, however if you do know of a friend that does have the same game, ask to borrow it copy on your hard drive then simply use your disk. It should then be okay, or trade it in and see if you can make a profit or hit par. I brought The orange box for 2 for £20 from gamestation with assians creed (both preowned) I then knocked my xbox, ended up with scrathes. got £10 for it. Then brought another from gamestation brand new for £10. Ah, saved me a hassle.

Or use your local gamestore and they should be able to repair your disk for £2-4/$2-5.
