So I work for a big retail electronics retailer and on occasion my supervisor will change our schedule for the next week within a few days of it starting. Obviously I don't live for this job and often plan my errands and stuff in advance. Next week I have two interviews and my schedule was changed today. Is there any sort of state law (I live in CA) that prevents schedules from being changed last minute? I heard there was some two week rule but I can't really find any hard evidence. If anyone has a little knowledge of such things it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sucks to hear that but unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Your best bet is just to tell your boss that you have prior commitments and can't reschedule; alternatively you could call in sick.

Also you probably know this already but employment in CA is at-will so tread carefully or just call in sick.

I believe they have to notify you that they changed the schedule, or at least ask you before they change it. If they are just changing it at will, I would contact your company's corporate offices and let them know what's going on.

If you needed a certain day off, you could have requested it off in advance. Ask another employee to take your shift. It shouldn't be too hard to work around.
