You can find a lot of the Tartans and other releases that didn't come out in the US here. Way cheaper and they usually will ship to the US. Make sure you check the region!

You need to be careful ordering from Amazon UK because many of them are Region B locked.

You are better off buying the Japanese, Korean, HK or Taiwan version because they are Region A like the USA.

I really don't know why someone recommended Amazon UK as a good place to buy Asian BDs. It is the last place I would order Asian BDs from.

Can you guys name me your top 5 Asian Blus? Please keep this thread thriving. I want to start building a small collection and would appreciate all your help.
I like action flicks/ martial arts/Samurai etc.

The ones I have currently (and still need to watch) are:

Red Cliff
Sukiyaki Western Django
Kung Fu Hustle.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I want to still get IP man...

Also what do you guys know about HKflix.com. Are they reliable? Can you recommend others?

Spirited Away, Battle Royal, The Host, and Some crazy movie I saw on charter on-demand 2 yrs ago. It was about some guy and his powerful sword but all the fights at the end of the movie were reminiscent of Power Rangers.....really wish I remembered the name of the movie or even more about it

I have never ordered from HKflix so I can't give you any feedback on them.

I'm really into Korean films so I recommend you get the Vengeance Trilogy. The other two films in the trilogy get overshadowed by Oldboy but they are both great films. I also recommend Mother, The Host, and The Good, The Bad, and the Weird. Most of my fave Korean films have yet to see a Bluray release in the states. A Bittersweet Life, A Tale of Two Sisters, and Memories of Murder to name a few.

I don't own many Japanese movies on Blu except Ichi the Killer and the UK Limted Edition of Battle Royale. Check asianblurayguide.com to see what import blurays can be played on US bluray players as some are region locked.

If you are into martial arts I suggest a few of the Dragon Dynasty films since they can be purchased on the cheap, some of the transfers are not that great. IP Man is a spectacular film but I don't own the blu yet. Needto pick up the Criterion Seven Samurai and Yojimbo/Sanjuro blus as well.

I have the 3 disc LE and they're region A,B,and C so they will play on US players.

I really wish I did, I've searched. Some funny name my cuz and I liked saying for days after (doogalo, bonnaroo, :)) At the end the main character transformed a la power rangers and his arms became swords. I dunno, I'm diggin deep. He got the girl at the end I think after their adventure/journey. It was just what looked good in the preview to watch after we watched Oldboy. I remember fully enjoying the first 3/4 of the movie then the end just got wacky.

p.s. I mentioned Battle Royal in post #3 ;)

I am totally stoked for I Saw the Devil!

As for Blus there's not too many released domestically yet. Fist of Legend is a wonderful movie and makes up for the mediocre transfer. Iron Monkey is good. Ip Man 1 is awesome the 2nd not so much. The aforementioned Vengeance Trilogy is a must own.

And as for HKFLIX i used to use them a lot a couple years back then they got popular and jacked up all the prices. I usually use Buyoyo.com now. If you buy several movies at a time with them they have really good pricing.

Did they ever fix the issue of missing audio for Old Boy in the The Vengeance Trilogy. Or was there some other problem with it?

There was supposed to be a replacement program but I never heard anything new about it. It may have happened but I kind of fell off the map for a while.

That sounds like Dororo, though Hyakkimaru doesn't exactly "get" Dororo at the end of the movie.

Good movie! Not usual Chan Wook Park but this one is very colorful and hilarous. I love it because it has the girl from A Tale of Two Sisters playing the robo.

Try ordering UK blus from Amazon UK, the prices are WAY cheaper and most of the time they will ship to the US. That's how I got my special edition of the Quiet Family that had Kim-Jee-Woon's short film on it.

It turns out that apparently the UK had two releases of this movie on blu. The first one is region locked to region 2. The second release appears to be region-free. The most noticeable difference in on the box art is the second blue "15" rating next to the red "15" rating. The region 2 version only has the red rating.

I happened to be window shopping on ebay when I found one of the region free versions for 19GBP. I then noticed on slickdeals that groupon had a $15 gift certificate for $7. So I made my purchase. All in all I payed about $15 US. Now for the expected long shipping wait.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a copy of CJ Entertainment's Thirst blu-ray release and it's AMAZING. If you've even half-thought about getting it, now might be the time since it's apparently out-of-print.

And yes, Thirst is a fantastic film. I drove to downtown Chicago to see it when it was on limited theater release and I loved it.
 
As long as you get the CJ Entertainment version you should be fine wherever you get it from. That being said it appears that amazon uk only has the region 2 locked (Tartan) version.

A very good movie to check out is the korean film "the man from nowhere". Very good movie but the trailers made for it make it look like trash.

I have a ton of Chinese flicks on DVD, and I would upgrade all of them to blu if they would ever release them.

HKflix is reliable. I've ordered from them numerous times in the past.
 
HKflix is not reliable. They went out of business. They screwed myself and a lot of other people out of BDs.

I watched Chocolate last night. The story and the acting isn't stellar, but the action is insane. The actress who portrays the main character is tough as nails.
 
Let me know when A Tale of Two Sisters comes out in the US on blu. Other than that, most of the Asian films I've wanted have come to blu already.

I'm assuming you watched it on Blu by you posting it in this thread. How did it look? I ask because the Ong-Bak and Protector Blu Rays have been really cheap a couple times and they aren't supposed to look that hot.

I would double dip on Chocolate though.
