Returning to bachelorhood for 11 days

My wife is going to fly out to California later this week to go and visit family and she's taking our kid with her. She'll be there for 11 days, and I'll be left home with my faithful golden retriever, Bowser. Generally I try not to play a lot of games when I can be spending time with my wife or kid, so while I'm going to really miss them, I'm totally going to hit it hard during those 11 days. So here's the daily battle plan:

On weekdays

- Wake up, go to work
- Leave work an hour early each day, because if she's going to take a 10 day vacation, I'm going to slack a little to
- Eat something terribly unhealthy and fast
- Play games non-stop until my eyes feel like they're going to bleed
- Sleep
- Repeat

On weekends

- Sleep in
- Wake up and eat something terribly unhealthy and fast
- Games, games, games
- Eat something terribly unhealthy and fast
- Games, games, games
- Eat something terribly unhealthy and fast
- Games, games, games

I'm hoping to do some major damage to my backlog. If I average only 6 hours a day gaming, I should be able to complete several games. Here's what I'm hoping to accomplish.

- Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (start to finish)
- Assassin's Creed 2 (last 3/4 of the game)
- Fallout 3 (finish last 1/2 of story and the DLC)
- Prince of Persia (start to finish)
- DA: Origins (get a good 10 hours into it or so)
- Dead Space (finish last 1/4 of game)
- Mario and Luigi 3 (last 1/2 of game)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii (start to finish)

Think this is possible? I'll probably sneak in a couple of movies as well, but I'm actually really excited to just be the laziest S.O.B. ever and game away a whole week and a half of my life. I may even take off one of the Fridays that she's gone to give myself a longer weekend. I'm going shopping on Thursday to stock up on snacks, so it might be a good time for you investors to buy some Pepsi and Doritos stock. :D

LOL! great plan, but you might end up 22-25 lbs heavier when your loved ones return.

I recommend some minor house cleaning or tidying up each day to impress the missus. who knows, she might reward you with another kid! :D

I too love my family but I do cherish my "free" weekends every so often. Depending on how complete you want to be with Fallout, you should be ok. If you decide you must have all the skill books or all unique weapons or something you could be in trouble.

I agree with Mispeada, and can tell you from my own experience, having the house a mess or smelling like arse is a no-no. Buy some Febreeze with your Doritos. It's magic!

I approve of this plan.

AC II is pretty fast, especially if you skip over the side missions. Even with gathering the armor and such, you could conceivably knock that out over a big day. Fallout 3 is the big trap. I called a good buddy of mine crazy for putting over a 100 hours into it. That is, until I got the game and realized I put 100 hours into it too without noticing.

 You just made my day with this! Thanks! :applause:

Dead space on easy should take about 10ish hours. POP can be done in 12 or less, rachet and clank can be done in 8ish hours .

I think you have a wonderful plan. I wish I had this kind of break too. However, I think you may be a bit overly ambitious, if you only average 6 hours a day. There is a ton of gaming on that list. The R&C games alone could take 12-15 hours each, taking up 4 to 5 days alone then to complete just those two.
God I envy you...
Seconded.

Have fun!!!

And don't forget to shower once in a while.

How old is your kid? That's kinda directly proportional to the urgency and necessity of such an 11 day stretch and how much needs to be crammed in there. 3 month old? Eh, not awful, you'd be thinking of sleeping instead of gaming. Anything older than a 9 month old, you may need to add in some speed and blow and take full advantage of the situation.

I have a 2.5 and .7 year olds. They're in bed by 7:30, sleep through the night. Wife is in bed by 9. I have usually 9-11ish each night to myself for gaming. Smart people may try for an MBA or something, I just game. :)

For reals, I say throw a bottle of whiskey in there, too, and you'll be straight.

My son is 8 months old and he has the worst sleep schedule ever. He takes three naps, around 10:00am, 2:00pm, and 6:30pm. After that the little stinker is up until around 10:30pm before he'll start settling in to sleep for the night. It makes it really, really hard to get some game time in, so I'm usually left playing real late at night (making for a sucky day the next day) or on the weekends when he is asleep and upstairs away from the gaming setup. As a result, my backlog is huge. It's definitely much larger than what I've listed, but this is the priority list.

Yeah, I was going to say the same. Definitely throw some drinking in there during gaming to make the most of the break!

Many years ago my wife did this and I snuck out to another state to visit a friend. I think we did a 72 hour binge of Everquest (1!). Fantastic weekend.
Fallout 3 the rest of the game and all the DLC....hmm that might be rough
This.

Man, you're going to have to go straight for the main missions if you want to have any hope of finishing up the game and dlc.

Hold it!

Your plan has one glaring flaw. I can't believe you overlooked it.

You forgot to schedule masturbation time

Haha, I get plenty from the wife as it is, so I'll be fine going a week and a half with a dry spell if I can keep my mind occupied.

The nice thing about Fallout 3 is that I've already done so much side stuff that I'm way leveled up beyond what I need to be in order to do the story arc. I should be able to push through a lot of it faster than what would be typical. It is my main stumbling block, but I'm a determined S.O.B. on this one.

Uhh, how is this a reward?

And I used to love it when my husband would go out of town for business trips. If I was home by myself I'd play video games until I passed out, armed with Red Bull, vodka, and take out chinese and pizza. If I went out, me and some friends would go to a the local bar, get drunk, and then hit up an arcade or Gameworks afterwards. (Bit of advice--never drink at Gameworks. The alcoholic drinks there are so weak I've never gotten a buzz off of them. Better to hit up a real bar first).

Housecleaning, my ass! I recommend you temporarily hire a maid to clean up the place.

Yeah, that's a dream come true right there. Ryu is just over a year old now and I still rarely get more than a couple hours of gaming in at any one time unless I stay up until 3am.

That would be awesome!

Sounds awesome my friend. I've definitely done this a few times when my wife and daughter have gone out of town for a couple days. I have to echo the other posters who have recommended making time for alcohol-- get that slight buzz going and the gaming will be all the sweeter. :)

That is an excellent plan (though I'll be impressed if you even get through half of that list)!

Hmmm, I think I may need to send my wife and son (2.5 yrs old) on a trip somewhere soon... generally when they've gone somewhere without me (which is rare) they're only gone for a few days, but I might still be able to do some damage to my backlog.

Cliched humor time:

Handle of bourbon: $40
Snacks for a week: $100
Plane tickets for family: $500
Putting huge dent in your CAG backlog: Priceless!

PS: We need updates! How is your smelly game binge working out?
