EDIT 7/15/06: Further price drops across all systems. Also, there is now a thread tracking games that qualify for Rhino's 2-for-1 deal here, courtesy of kjauburn: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100697

Looks like Rhino is having a big clearance across all systems. I don't have a complete list, not even close - but here are a few that stood out when I was there:

Darkwatch (xbox) - $7.50
PoP: The Two Thrones (ps2) - $14.50
MGS Acid 2 - $19.50

There were TONS more, again, across all systems. The manager told me they were going to be doing more markdowns in the coming weeks as well.

And before anyone asks, Rhino is a chain that's mainly in the Southeast, but has been spreading out some so I didn't put this in regional. And they have a website, but they don't sell anything on it.

Yeah, I saw it at mine, but nothing was marked down more than $5. It was a really, really shitty clearance. Like Urban Chaos: Riot Response was on "clearance", 39.99 down to 34.90.

I saw a few that were only $5 or so, but quite a few of the games I looked at were marked down much further. I imagine the prices are the same store to store, but it's obviously ymmv as far as selection goes.

EDIT: Another one I just rememebered was Legend of Heroes II for the PSP, which was down to $24.50. I asked her didn't that just come out, and she said that's the same thing she thought when she saw that markdown.

the ones around here are starting to have decent clearance items. There has been 5 different Rhinos in this town. Currently 3 still open.

Went today and there were quite a few games marked clearance. Overall there are several that are a pretty good deal. Here are some of the clearance titles. I mainly looked at the xbox 360, ds, and psp areas. There were quite a titles marked down and the majority of them were still on the wall. Remember most of the time they only have 1 or 2 copies of a game on hand with the display copy being open.

Me & My Katamari 19.50
Pac-World 3 19.50
Legends of Heroes II 24.50

Rayman 9.50
Burnout Legends 14.50
Finding Nemo 15.50

Phew, at least this sale's not such a killer, as my wallet's already drained twice over. Looks like I'll try to get MGS Acid 2 and Me & My Katamari even though I refuse to upgrade my PSP anyway. Thanks for the tip off. Without any good games this time of year for me to do the Trade 2 deal, I haven't been to Rhino in a while and have just been trading at GR and EB/GS.

Yeah if there were some good games out I would be trading like crazy at Rhino. Some of the games from CC and GR still qualify for the trade 2 get one free.

I wouldn't mind picking up a copy of Darkwatch (Xbox) at that price. Too bad the closest Rhino Video Game store is two states away...
After checking the store locater, all Rhinos in my area have closed! Wow, I didn't even know they existed.
maybe thats why theyre all close.....lol...;)

Quite a few of the games from the sale qualified for the trade 2 to get one deal... I do most my trading to Rhino... damn shame EB/GS get so much attention
The Rhino I had near me just closed down about a month ago. Bummer.
Quite a few of them closed... maybe 1/2?

The funniest thing I found there was Growlanser Generations on clearance for 59.99. It was regularly priced at 79.99. It wasnt even the deluxe pack.

they had a lot of "rare" hard to find games at the ones in UT..but the prices were so outrageous.. like they had several PS1 rarities (nothing like Suikoden but those low print run collector or niche games like Raystorm) and Ogre battle 64 and harvest moon 64.. but they wanted above what they were going for on ebay for.. i should have picked up "super aquatic games of the aquabats" for my girlfriend..cuz she liked it.. but they closed.. shitty selection and bad prices in my opinion better off finding a cooler game at EB/GS
i should have picked up "super aquatic games of the aquabats" for my girlfriend..cuz she liked it.. but they closed..
Hold it! The Aquabats have a video game?! Tell me more...

its NOT the THE THE aquabats.. (as in the most awesomest band in the universe) but its kinda like a party type game where you compete in various events its for the SNES

that sucks. I would love a game with the aquabats. Just think a level for all the classic songs, I would love a "captain hampton vs. the midget pirates" level, or a boss fight against the "powderedmilkman"

Boo-urns.

Yes, they did - and luckily, many of the ones that qualified were the more common ones so I didn't fee like a hoarder taking advantage of them. ;)

Anyway, I went today armed with credit and came away with the following:

PS2:

Tales of Legendia - $39.50 (I had decided to get this one at full price, so the $10 I saved was nice if not spetacular)
PoP: The Two Thrones - $14.50

Xbox:

Darkwatch - $7.50
Project: Snowblind - $9.50
Time Splitters: Future Perfect - $4.50
Rainbow Six: Lockdown - $9.50
King Kong - $12.50
Star Wars: Republic Commando - $15.50

All of those were still sealed except for Snowblind, but I checked it before I left and it looks untouched.

I tell you, Rhino is the #1 place I get new releases these days. Look around a little, and you can almost always find a great deal on something that qualifies for their 2-for-1 deal. I have over $400 in store credit stockpiled right now for the fall, and I average spending $10 cash for every $25 credit.

They may not have the selection of new games that EB/GS has, but they sure as heck beat them in price once you factor that in.

The one in my area had the hori ds screen protectors for $3.50. That is a good price, but it is probably a ymmv type deal.

For the past few years, I've only bought new releases at Rhino with the Trade 2 deal and at GameRush with the $29.99 preorder deals. Unfortunately the summer months are lacking in good new releases. Otherwise, I don't think I've spent more than $30 for a new game (including 360 titles) outside of music games and my Indigo Prophecy preorder.

How'd you build up your credit? Were you able to use the Trade 2, Get 1 Free deal and convert it to general credit instead of games?

Any examples of what qualifies at Rhino? The guys here act like it's a hassle to check a trade-in price

Last time I really check was during 9.99 CC sale before the clearance. I traded in some Marc Ecko's, Matrix, and Infected and haven't bothered since. They don't qualify anymore.

More recently I know Radiata Stories and Castlevania Curse PS2 will work. The general rule of thumb is if they sale it for $24.99 they buy it for $10. Anything they buy for $10 will qualify. I usually walk around the store and scan prices to find a couple to work. It seems we have more Rhino shoppers on the site then a year ago. We could never keep a thread going last fall more then a day or two. Maybe there is enough of us now to create a good list of qualifying games...

I wonder if this chain will stay around long enough to spread from Kentucky into Indiana. There's always room for another video game store in Indianapolis...we only have around 100 game stores right now.

This chain is already shrinking.
I wonder if this chain will stay around long enough to spread from Kentucky into Indiana. There's always room for another video game store in Indianapolis...we only have around 100 game stores right now.
Its been shrinking this year and over 25 stores have closed this year. For the most part it looks like blockbuster consolidated it back into the southeast. They are trying to sell it right now to a chain without stores in the area or they are hoping the previous owner buys it back. BB needs every dollar to keep chapter 11 at bay as longer as possible. They already sold off or closed MTC, Mr. Movies, King movies, etc. this year. Truthfully I won't be surprised if they close up shop after christmas if they don't sell the chain. The chain has a long history and I believe the future of the chain may be in the hands of the previous owner.

Correct me if I am wrong but outside of TN, SC, NC, AL, GA, LA, and FL there are only 4 stores. 7 stores are in NC/SC and 4 in LA. Almost 80% of the stores are now in 4 states...

It's sad because Rhino was 10000000 times better than shitty Gamerush... Blockbuster should have just expanded Rhino from the get go and never bothered with Gamerush, the idiots just competed with themselves.

Damn I didn't realize they had 94 stores at the beginning of the year. They must be under 60 now. I believe there were 41 stores when blockbuster bought them in May, 2004.

Don't forget they expanded MTC at the same time. We had MTC, Rhino, and Gamerush all over the place last year.

The manager at my store doesn't have a problem letting me 2-for-1 for pre-orders, and then just cash those in later for whatever I want. This may be ymmv according to your manager tho. If that fails, you can always try just picking up a $50 game they have in stock and then returning it a few days later before your 7-day return window is up.

Definantly a YMMV thing, most of the mamagers I talk to frown upon that.. Ive just been doing the 2 for one on 360 games,,, pretty nice to get new 360 games for half the price most of the time (a couple of 9-10 dollar CC games and either another CC game that trades for 13-14 dollars or pay the difference)...picked up KH2 on release date for basically 20 bucks in cost

Funny thing here is all 4 stores in the Area: Theodore, Saraland, P'Cola, and good ol Semmes (about 5 minutes from home) have all opened since Decenber of last year or later... Ive tried telling alot of people about this place even here on CAG, but they seem too stubborn, thinking EB/GS is still the only game in town

Although my good friend got hooked on the 2 for one by myself... but still took about 3 or 4 months of telling him about it before it registered (in that time he picked up a 360 , PSP, and PS2 giving him reason to do this

Looks like they closed all the locations in my state. Only thing I ever really bought there were cheap used guides anyways.

Which really doesn't make any sense imo. I mean, they're out a $50 game either way. The way they tell me it's all legit anyway - they say you can 2-for-1 a preorder, and there's nothing wrong with changing your mind on that preorder later. But heck, if the store would actually preorder games I wanted, I wouldn't have to swap the credit around. Ah well....

I wish I had a list for the 2-for-1 trade in, because I can never seem to find a combo that works. I might have to stop by there tonight, as well as the one in Auburn (stocked WAY better). If anybody could come up with a decent list of games (maybe a Rhino CAG around??), that would rule.

It hasnt really mattered because there had been alot of 360 games, PSP, PS2 etc games I wanted from the deal, I did it a while back to convert the credt for use on 360 games (before they included them in the deal)...

I dont see where people complain about the prices at Rhino, most of the items Ive noticed were a couple bucks cheaper... such as a 50 new game selling for 44.99 or under at Rhino compared to the prices GS charges

They still take trade ins on used guides making a penny guide worth 50 cents credit

They allow a 7 day trial on all game purchases, returning game if you simply dont like it

Have lifetime guarantee on games purchased (manufacturer defects I believe)

Part of me wants the chain to continue to grow, but I like the fact no one takes advantage of their 2 for 1 trade in deal... any game that they sell for 24.99 used and over (making it worth 10 trade in price) is eligible... games like V tennis, Genji, K revolution, Geist have all been examples of 10 dollar and under games that were good IN THE PAST towards this deal...

We abused the trade 2 get 1 for 99 cent deal here in Jacksonville, FL using the Circuit City deals. Here's a list of the games we were able to use:

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (PS2, XBOX)

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down (PS2)

Monster Hunter (PS2)

Nightmare Before Christmas (PS2)

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (PS2)

AND THE GREATEST DEAL OF ALL TIME:

TOTAL OVERDOSE (PS2) $3.96

Holy crap Total overdose works now?... I need to trade that in pronto if it is still good... since I just happened to pick up one last week from CC, I remember being told NBC was 8 or 9 dollars trade in when asking about it... but I can try again, Ive been wanting to pick up Prey

Damn Total overdose gets 14 dollars store credit... took and traded a 7 dollar copy of infected and a nine dollar copy of Oogie's Revenge which traded in for the ten dollars each to do the 2 for one on Prey CE, added in the Total overdose (4 dollars at CC) for 14 credit to help pay the overage cost (you only get 50 dollars max on the 2 for one, anything priced higher you have to pony up yourself or trade in other games...

in all got a brand new copy of Prey CE for about 27-28 dollars in costs... not bad at all

Got a SUPER trade in game, if one can find a used copy of MYV music generator (got mine for TWO DOLLARS FROM CC) it also trades in for ten making it a really cheap 2 for one... its rare one can find sub five dollar games that are valid on this

Will do my next 2 for one when Dead Rising is released :)

In an attempt to keep this thread alive ;) I went into another Rhino today for the purpose of checking out the sale... very very good prices...
Picked up Full Auto NEW 19.50... wow a 360 game for under 20 bucks new
Rub Rabbits 9.50!!!!
also spotted a Castlevania DS used which I wanted and got

there were tons of other games College BB 2K6 19.50
Super Monkey Ball DS 9.50
Burnout DS 4.50
PS2 RE4 controller 24.50
Mega Man and Sonic GCN controllers 9.50
PS2 Component Cables 4.50
tons of other stuff I cant remember across all systems

Also a Jax CAG. I picked up:

Hori DS screen protectors $1.50
Killer 7 $4.50
LOTR: The Third Age GBA $2

and had them put away one of those Neo Geo Pocket Color + 6 games for me until Thursday.

That NGPC and game was an AWESOME deal... was 79.99... marked down to 29.99 or so... If I hadnt bought one last year Id have snagged it at my Rhino

Killer 7 for $4.50. That's awesome. I'm going to stop by tomorrow. I really wish I could get a copy of Total Overdose for $3.96, but I don't have a CC nearby. Oh well.

And Zman, if something trades in for $9 or more, does that mean it qualifies for the 2 for 1 deal?

$10 or more qualifies. About 95%+ of the time if they sell it for $24.99 they buy it for over $10...

I only picked up Total Overdose on a whim since I only picked up one other game for myself from the sale that day from CC (Exit)... wouldnt have even thought it would have qualified or I'd have bought the other 2 copies there (this was a CC out of town where none of the 8.96 games had even been marked down, even though it was the "start" of the official sale... it made a nice filler game to help make up the 20 dollar difference on the 70 dollar cost of Prey CE and the 50 they give as part of the 2 for one deal... Id have kept the game otherwise , but that was a sweet trade in on a four dollar game

Ive occasionally (rarely) spotted 24.99 games in store at Rhino where they actually trading in for LESS than the 10 dollar mark needed for the promo, I just attribute that to not updating prices on the shelves, which they are normally good at (although my 19.50 Full Auto WAS marked 24.50...

Rhino has only been in my area for a short time but I IMMEDIATELY picked up on the 2 for one as my first trip to my Rhino was the exact SAME DAY the TRU 9.99 X-mas clearance began... awesome... picked up Disgaea, Rez and other game for around the price they were worth to me

Im am still amazed this store doesnt get more positive reviews on here... I was amazed to see it listed in the nominations for worst B&M retailer... Take for example, when KH2 came out... obviously the game was 50 everywhere, I got mine for the trade in of 20 dollars worth of games... thats pretty good
