Can I just pre-order it paying the monthly fee? Not the whole $50 dollars? I'm not 100% sold on it yet.
I don't think so.

You can pre-order the game, play the betas / head start, then cancel the pre-order if you don't like the game. But if you decide to stick with the game, you'll have to buy the game and subscribe to it, just like most MMOs.

I understand they are wanting to be different but I swear to god, I do not want to hear testimonials from "actual players". It makes the game look like shit, just from hearing these people describe the game.

Where can I potentially cancel it? If I pre-order it from amazon or steam?
Thanks click.

Dont pre-order from them. Other retailers have the CE as well.

Retailers are going to be receiving their codes soon. Gamestop / EB in Canada somehow got theirs first:

I'm not certain how Trion will handle their pre-orders, but if they're like most other MMO developers / publishers, they won't charge you until after the game launches. Again, I'm not sure but I'll update you when I find out. If you don't want to risk not getting your pre-order money back, pre-order from a retailer and make sure you get your beta / head start code.

OK, my guildies said they do charge you for the game when you pre-order from the official Rift site. So I guess if you want to try the game out first, pre-order from a retailer. The only thing is, you have to wait for retailers to receive their codes.

Steam also has the pre-order available now too.

That video on the site was pretty bad got a lot of good laughs out of it.

Yeah, that video is pretty embarrassing.
I would hate to be one of those "actual players" they interviewed.
I had never even heard of this before today... and I pay a lot of attention to video games across all platforms and genres.
Rift's been flying under the radar up until now, but once people find out about this game in the next few months, it'll be talked about a lot.

This game will be really good. I've played a lot of MMOs the past decade (FFXI, Guild Wars, DDO, AoC, WAR, Aion). Rift is definitely one of the better MMOs I've seen and played... so far. Hopefully Trion will be able to consistently support the game for the next few years and balance the game properly. If they do, this game will be a hit.

The Rift pre-order is on Direct2Drive's list of MMOs with 20% discount.
Use code "joker"

I'd never pre-order an MMO unless I got to spend a LOT of time with the game in beta first. There are just way too many disappointing MMOs people pay $50 for and cancel after their 30 days.

NVIDIA sent me a beta code for this game didn't know what it was i still have it i don't like MMO's anyone want it?

EDIT: after reading it it's not a beta code, but a chance to get a beta code with the sign up here it is please whoever grabs it please post you've taken it

I could be wrong, but I thought that Steam and possibly D2D didn't let you cancel pre-orders?

I have a few beta codes for this game from going to the party they held during PAX. Beta access, free swag, free food, and open bar! Trion throws a good party.

Been in every beta so far, and invited to the next... All I have to say is not impressed with 2nd beta and on, the game got stale very quickly. Giving this one a shot for the increased level cap.

From the video, "You can have 3 souls with 4 different classes in each soul, I mean i`m not gonna do the math, but thats alot of different combinations."
