For the people wondering what the deal is, here's
two pieces of News Coverage on the British Invasion
2k6 riot in San Bernardino.

a friend of mine was there
turns out the police responded to a stabbing because
the fights continued. but it took them 3 attempts get
through the crowd....the third being with 7 cans of
tear gas to shutdown the show. which is totally
retarded....they've just stirred up a hornets nest.
not to mentoin there's like 10 yr old kids in the
crowd, some of which passed out. and we received no
warning, i mean, it was right in the middle of the
Broken Bones set.

so all the punks are pissed, tearing down fences to
get away from the gas, throwing shit at the cops.
they've brought in a chopper as well. the police in
full riot gear are trying to push the kids to the
street. though on our way out, 2 police cars get
absolutely destroyed.

the police are pelting the crowd with rubber bullets,
mace spray, and using their batons. on my way out the
gate, a few of us notice a kid on crutches on the
ground getting shot with rubber bullets at point
blanke. we we rush to help him, but the pig shot us
to keep us back. right after this a loud explosion
went off near us, which i think was a concussion
gernade. probably aimed at jack in the box or carls
jr., because they were getting fucked up. by now
they've also brought in a second chopper. reports
said 200 policeman were mustered from surrounding
counties.

Just for the record, punk rockers tend to be somewhat shy of most republicans in the "we are both grossly uninformed in what informs our political beliefs and completely inept when it comes to actually acting out politically."

Seriously, most punk rock kids' attention spans can be diverted by flashing them the latest "Nausea" backpatch, a can of Steel Reserve, or some pamphlet written by a near-illiterate summarizing Mikhail Bakunin (and features great recipies for Vegan palek paneer!).

Punks are the walking definition of "all bark, no bite" politically; they also have a tendency to use tautological reasoning regarding their hatred of cops: they hate cops, so they destroy things, which brings in the cops, who kick the fuck out of the punks, so they hate cops, so they destroy things...you get the idea.

This isn't to say that police don't act with unnecessary aggression, but punks certainly invite it.

can't say that i disagree - but from my experience at "punk shows" most of these kids are 12-18 years old... so whether or not they invite it, i think some policing discretion should be used - like not throwing in tear gas into a giant crowd of young people in the middle of the night.

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where it was okay to let your 10 year old kid attend a punk rock concert - or any other concert for that matter.

I figure I attended anywhere from 80-110 shows from my Sophomore year in HS until I graduated college.

I never, not once, even saw a cop do anything besides stand around at the entrance. You name the band, even the most outright hostile to the cops like the Dead Kennedy's or Ice T and I never saw problems. The only time I ever saw cops act out violently on 18-22 year olds was when a bunch of football players tried to crash a party. They got the living snot kicked out of them by the "punks" at the party who mysteriously magically grew 24 inch ball bats, tire irons/chains and broken furniture legs. They came back with real bats and other stuff and by that time the cops had shown up and.... in a magic turn of events.... beat the snot out of them a second time in the evening.

Funny and true story. I think they lost the next game pretty bad when 3 starters were in casts and at least 8 back up players were unable to perform.

That's insanely spot on, in my experience.
