rock band!!! 9.4 ign
it has been said already that the GH3 controllers dont work with RB on the PS3
That's not what I had read. And the guitar works but once I click on solo career it gives me the no microphone detected message,

After reading the Rock Band forums, it appears to be a problem only for PS3 users which sucks. Hoping they resolve asap.

No guitars work with the PS3 version aside from the Rock Band guitar.

While it may recognize it, it is recognizing it as a regular controller(which is used to turn on the microphone), that's why you got that error message.

Many sites reported early on that GH3 guitars WILL work for Rock Band.

But yea, it doesn't.

That's why I got the 360 version, didn't wanna deal with the PS3 luck.

Regarding the GH3 controller as a regular controller issue, I think I read that Harmonix could fix this with a software patch. That makes me hopeful because I tried plugging in my old GH1 guitar and adapter and I got the same message. So maybe if they get that fixed up, I'll have a second guitar ready to go.

At this point it may just be optimistic speculation on top of a rumor, but I'll take it.

As for the actual game, it's pretty fun so far but my arm is looking forward to the songs that aren't just repetetive guitar chords for 4 minutes. Also it turns out I suck at drumming. :DDDD Can't wait to practice some more.

god i hope they can patch it so that the gh1 controller works with rock band. i like the strum bar of my ps1 guitar so much better than rock bands. i hope down the road someone makes a wireless version that is very similar to the feel of the ps2 gibson sg as i would snatch that up in a second and make my rock band controller the bass. i had the les paul but it broke within a couple of hours so i don't feel like trying that route again.

Unfortunately Harmonix issued a statement that it is not something that has to do with software and there is no said patch coming out.

:(

Guess we will be stuck with waiting till the Rock Band instruments are sold next year to get an extra guitar.. Bummer.

Boo.
Does anyone know what the required firmware version is for RB?
Version 2.01, but I was able to play it without updating my PS3. Once I updated it I was able to upload my scores to the leader board etc.
Does anyone know what the required firmware version is for RB?
I think its 1.94 or whatever the one before 2.0 is. I still haven't dled 2.0 firmware because of all the problems I've heard ppl are having.

Anyway It sucks to hear that there is no way to get a 2nd guitar for the game :(

I am not happy with Rock Band anymore. My guitar is like broken. When I down strum it counts for 2 or 3 strums now. I've already contacted EA, I asked for express, so they will send me the guitar first. But if I don't send them the broken guitar back within 28 days, they will charge me for the guitar +$20 for the express shipping.

So, does anyone have any recommendations on whether or not to get the 360 version over the PS3 version? I have the PS3 version right now, but I'm a little concerned that the GH3 guitar won't work with RB on the PS3. I don't have GH3 yet, but I was planning on getting it. I've also heard that the GH3 guitar is a touch better than the RB guitar.

Also, what is the length of the warranty on RB to do exchanges if one of the instruments break? I won't be getting RB until Christmas and I'm a little concerned that I won't notice something is wrong with something until its too late.

As of right now, GH guitars don't work with Rock Band. I also prefer the GH guitar to Rock Band's, even apart from the hardware issues. I feel much more confident strumming on it; the Rock Band guitar seems to randomly drop notes and it was like that out of the box, so I don't think it's because anything's come loose yet.

EA's warranty is 60 days, but with the rampant stories about stuff breaking I'd definitely get a replacement plan from your favorite retailer. (Sorry if that doesn't help if you're getting it for Christmas.)

If you have the option, go with the 360 version so you can use the GH guitar. Harmonix should be able to patch the PS3 version to work (I've only heard excuses so far), but it's uncertain whether they actually will.

Has anyone tried using a bluetooth headset as the mic? I tried to get it working last night, but didn't have any luck. Kept getting "no microphone detected" message, but it worked fine in the XMB.

Just bought the PS3 version on 11/24 and the guitar broke on 11/26. Stupid thing won't strum. I just ordered a replacment from EA.
This sucks, but when everything was working for a day, it was sooooooo sweet.

Yea, that blows.

I'll be holding out on GHIII and Rock Band for the PS3 until they patch things up and make it compatible.

Played it on the 360 and it was so cool :D

Playing guitar and doing vocals at the same time is awesome. Admittedly, I don't know all the songs so I'll have to get to know them, but still, very satisfying.
A certain ex-CAG drew my attention to this post at PS3Fanboy. Sounds like a patch to get more guitars working with Rock Band is imminent.
Awesome.

This is why we need him back, he can keep us informed all the time.

Well I got my replacement guitar, and so far it works great. I opted for the "charge my credit card for $125 and then when EA recieves the broken guitar, cancel the charge" option because supposedly i would receive it in 2 days. It actually took 7 days total, but thats not bad. Now back to rockin.
wtf where's buddy holly? it's up on 360 now >=/
Where've you been? PSN always updates on Thursdays.
Where've you been? PSN always updates on Thursdays.
wow that's pretty dumb if they'll only update items on thursday. It should be whenever new content is available.

Just picked up this game last night from best buy for the PS3, i normally wouldve had a hard tiem deciding to ge tteh 360 or PS3 version but sicne they only had the PS3 its what i got, Having the Wireless guitar is nice though.

aww lame, they used to let you add any amount to your wallet, now you have to add it in $5 increments so it becomes like Xbox 360's stupid system.
lame.......

Zoglog, nothing has changed. At the time of purchase for anything in your cart, you're given the option to add just that amount to your wallet to pay for what you're purchasing. Otherwise, you don't need to add any money to your PSN wallet.

Those $5 increment options have always been there.

Also, the main reason why these updates happen on certain days is that people will know when to look for new updates, and everything gets marketed together. It also makes it easier to update the PSN as the PSN staff don't have to constantly add small new things, and instead they ready the PSN for each thursday launch. So it's part marketing, part practicalities.

It's always going to be this way due to credit card transaction fees. Not really the fault of either company.

You can add the exact amount of the game/dlc you want, as long as it's at least $4.99.

ok thanks for the clarification. Because everything i've purhased before has allowed me to pay for the exact amount. I've never bought anything but DLC games on psn till now.

Welcome to the band ;) This game is so awesome. Online is nice... it works so smoothly, no hiccups, and it's damn fun to have a whole band going... it's just a shame you can't switch instruments easily or do band world tour online. And they need voice chat capabilities... there aren't ones and I'm just missing them, are there? I think it's so stupid that I can't hear other people sing...

I've only played online with friends. I'm not that good and am convinced strangers would just make fun of me... even if I can't hear them do it ;D
