So crazy as it may seem I've never played any guitar hero or rock band games, but I've been convinced to join the plastic instrument party. Rock Band 2 seems the best place to start as it offers the widest breadth of instruments. Is $99 on amazon the best deal? Should I pick up GH5 or any other software with it? Thanks!
 
Unless you are itching for it right now, I would hold off. Last week Amazon had RB2 SE for $70. That was my first music game too. Game rocks. As far as GH5 goes, I can't give any input on that, but it is a Amazon Lightening deal for $30 right now (disk only).
 
Agree on the waiting if you can. I'm looking for RB2 SE too but hopefully there will be another deal sometime soon.
