Rockstar Table Tennis - $29.99 OUTPOST.com

hrm... $30 bux... good deal. i was interested in the game but... all ive seen of it is the same video everyone sees. i havent really researched but are there any ingame screens?

whats been the verdict on this game?

is it one of those games that allot of people wouldnt think about getting but turns out to be fun?

I think that at $40 it still isn't a bad price compared to the usual $60 price tag. I already pre-ordered this game.

I doubt many people would pay $60 for Table Tennis...

This game should be the price of XB360 Uno + $5 (to cover the disc/packaging). Nobody in their right mind should have to pay more for Ping Pong than they would for Uno, especially based on the Wombat CAGcast reviews of both.

Whatever happens, it'll be quite interesting to see the outcome of this game on a retail level.

^ I agree. If this was a PS2 game, I could see it releasec for $9.99 like other budget titles. I think a fair price for the game would be $14.99 to $19.99 on the 360. $40 is ridiculous for what it is.

i mean, is it that basic a game, with that short a devlopment cycle, that it should be a bargain title? or is it the sport that has you guys dismissing it?
For me, it's because it's a basic game w/ a short development cycle.
Same here. And the sport that it is to me it should be more of a mini game in the new GTA then a title on it's own.

Rumble Roses XX is probably just as basic and that doesn't stop it from retailing for $59.99. I honestly think people have more of a problem with the genre of the game itself. One could say that table tennis is just like regular tennis, yet no one has complained much about Top Spin 2. I think Rockstar is testing out the waters with this title, if it does pretty good I can see them making a full fledged version with an extensive career mode etc. In my opinion, this game will just be for fans of the genre mostly like the poker, deer hunting, or billiards games. They are not big sellers but sell well enough to keep pumping out sequels. We'll just have to wait and see.

Funny. I think the game will be worth what they're asking for it from the gameplay vids and all of the positive press previews from online game sites. People are dismissing it purely out of spite because it's ping pong and not gta, but from what eveybody who's played it is saying, the gameplay is excellent with great graphics. It definitely can't be worse than Top Spin 2, which I and many others paid $35+ for. The gameplay is fast, deep, and it's online. What's not to like? As far as no career mode, who cares. Mario Tennis for the n64 had no career mode.. just very diverse characters with different abilities and great gameplay, and it was one of my favorites for that console and for the racquet sport genre in general. Dismiss it if you will, but I say its pricetag and developer pedigree, plus all the positive press warrant a deeper look. You might be surprised.

Now if only Frys would put it in its weekly ad, so I could pricematch.

In for one. This game is going to rock. You watch. Rockstar isn't in the business of making crappy games. They've put a lot of time and money into this, and the game play is going to pwn Top Spin 2.

Spoken like a true fanboy. ;)

I'm going to use one of my monthly rentals from Blockbuster.com, rent it next week, and if I like it buy it for the keep it price of $32.99. Does anyone else do this?

Well Rockstar as awhole first of all is a publisher. Second the team that developed this game also made Red Dead Revolver. Not saying that has anything to do with each other just pointing out that they do put out crappy games. Same goes for State of Emergency which was published by Rockstar.
I also think you can't compare this to tennis. Is two totally diffrent sports/games. Gameplay wise it will be a totally diffrent experience. Don't ger me wrong I hope this game is great. But I can't see myself paying more than $20 for it.

State of Emergency was an absolute pile and that was a Rockstar game.

$29 at Outpost bodes well for a sale price at Fry's next week...if not, I'll use my $40 off $199 coupon and get it as part of a shopping spree at CC next week.

Sweet. Love Fry's. And, hell yeah, wait for reviews. You should wait for reviews on almost any game, because they ain't cheap (unless you get them 3 months later w/ a CAG reference, by which time tons of reviews are already out). Good thing they do reviews the week of release... natch.

I can't possibly imagine this game being fun, but I'll wait for reviews before I decide. Didn't like Top Spin 2 and the next Virtua Tennis won't be out for a while, so this could be a nice in-between.
I'm curious....but do I really need Top Spin 2 and this.....I wish a demo would hit soon.
QFT I have Top Spin 2 so do I want this as well. I really would like to get a demo so I can decide if I want to drop $30 on it or not.

screw pricematching. buy it at normal price at best buy, get the ad from fry's and then have best buy give you 110%, now you get the game for like $28 instead of $30. plus you get to use your rewards.

At $29, there's no need to wait for reviews. That price allows me to get it on release day and decide for myself if I like it...if I don't, I can ebay it before the end of the week and make just about all of my money back (in which case, I can consider it to be a "cheap rental"). :)

Hell... I cant understand the animosity towards this... yes it is table tennis, but I believe it will not be as shallow a game as everyone thinks it will be (I likes Red Dead Revolver BTW)... if I can find it in store next week for this price Ill jump on it as I still have my 2 20 dollar off rebate forms from my XBL kits... which would make this 9.99
Oni was a Rockstar game, and that was an even bigger pile.
actually.... oni was made by bungie...

I questioned that too... I knew it wasnt a rockstar game though
