Rondo of Swords

ahahahaha~!! upon further play casualties are NOT necessary!!

it's all about baiting!! bait foolz to attack you!!

if an enemy attacks you by running thru you, stand your character at the farthest square the enemy can walk to,

if the enemy comes, he'll be in range for attack,

if he doesnt, then he will not attack you at all unless u attack first (I think...)

if the enemy is a ranged fighter, you will need sum1 who can stay OUTSIDE his attack range and still be able to run him over,

in other words use your horsie, I think his name is Kay. He gots 8 movement (most archers, mages etc have 6)
I couldn't escape from all those soldiers in the first mission. Hard, or is it just me?
i suck at this game... played it 30 mins and still cant get past this stage... talk about overkill LOL

Until you come up against longbowmen standing on elevated walls. :whistle2:( That mission is killing me.

LOL im stupid. i couldnt figure how to attack. run threw people to attack.... only took me 33mins to figure it out,...

now on to stage 2.... seems like fun little game

rented this. Pokmon darkness and world ends with you off gamefly

get to keep all 3 titles to MAY 17 for 29.99

should be able to beat all 3 within a month cheaper then it would cost to buy 1 game.... + if i beat them faster or bored with them i can always send back to get another gaeme

got swords today should get Pokemon Thursday and World by saturday Going to be a very buzzy week
Until you come up against longbowmen standing on elevated walls. :whistle2:( That mission is killing me.
I heard what you are supposed to do is send an archer to attack (since they can shoot after they move) and then use Marie's teleport ability to get them out of harm's way...

I'm currently at the stage where you're not supposed to let any ppl die so you can unlock a secret stage and recruit Cotton,

I sent Kay out on an errand... not a good idea coz after retry and retry I apparently need him badly!!

so... a couple more useful info for you guys;

Results of sending your units on smith/card missions (the missions without any reward)

also another useful tip... every time you restart the mission you retain your experience and any used items will reset!!

this is an extremely broken way to level up, but I am not sure if these rules also apply when you restart the mission by changing your party and canceling errands

However, if you die then it's game over... I restarted stage 8 quite a bit changing my strategy each time but I finally chose a bad strat that got Serdic killed... all my new levels were lost

does leveling grinding on this game do any good.. or is the AI based on your levels cant remember... though a review said grinding wouldnt work
It does, thank god. So you can actually do a hard save if you've retried three times and gained a couple levels.

I gave up on unlocking Rukia... shit's crazy hard. I finally survived the first salvo so I could actually finish the mission, but she ran off and got herself killed before I could talk to her.

i recruited rukia by getting margus, killing the first two knights, and then parking margus at the front of the gate and knight codexing til the gates open, while sending serdic to the east with cotton. as soon as the gates opened, i would fall back towards where the rest of my army was battling the 4 knights on horsies, and then retreat east towards the serdic portion creeping up the right side of the map.

Cotton takes out the archers while serdic focuses on taking out the armored knight. They key to this strategy is not to move margus the moment the gate opens so that the next turn, the 3 thiefs near rukia go towards the gate, rather than rukia. if they go towards rukia, she's pretty much dead.

Luckily missing Cotton early on when I didn't know she existed means there's little point for me to be a completionist about that aspect this go-round.

her attack range is 5 (base stats, I havent upgraded anything of hers) and she cannot attack after moving, archers have a range of 6...

Ansom can attack after moving also, unlike Cotton, so I rely on him to take out archers (with assist from Marie in the healing zone since it takes him two shots)

can you buy new items or just win them
You can sort of buy them. You can do a shopping errand and indicate your budget for each type of item - HP items, MP items, rings, medals, etc. So while you can't go into a menu and buy a specific weed, you can probably get what you're looking for.

Managed to recruit the available person in the last two missions, definitely not letting up on the difficulty at all. It's really compounded by not being able to see the attack range for archers and spellcasters.

Jekki, might want to edit your spoiler about how to recruit:
Stage 13 Arios > Serdic can also recruit him

spoiler edited and whooo I got Rukia!!

I basically did the forgrim method of using Knight Codex on Margus...

very long stage walkthru ahead:

I killed the first 2 opponents, moved Margus as close to the door as I could, and moved Ansom such that he would be able to attack the first archer on the right on his 3rd turn. I also moved Cotton right in front of the door on the 2nd turn.

on 3rd turn, began killing the two archers on the right (it takes 4 turns total). I also used Cotton to damage the knight on the far right of the castle door.

as the turns go on, while Ansom is doing his thing, I move Margus to the far right, right in front of the door, Marie right behind him (to support both him and Ansom with her 6-range Heal), and I began to move Cotton to the right side entrance.

all during this time, Alhambra and Serdic are chilling in the back waiting for the horsies to come.

once Ansom kills the 2nd archer, that's when the door will open and reinforcements will show up.

Alhambra and Serdic together can kill 2 of the horsies and move out of the way so the other 2 horsies wont be able to attack them. on the next turn, they should be in range to kill the remaining two. EASY!!

move Margus up 5 spaces and he should kill the soldier that Cotton hurt. This will also put him in position such that the 3 baby soldiers will come at him instead of Rukia. Move Ansom right in front of Marie and have him attack the soldier in range.

now this is the key point!!! Remember Cotton? She is going for the kill on the soldier chilling by the side entrance. Move her right within his movement range. f the soldier stays still, he can be killed in one hit with the Fire Dragon attack. If he moves back towards Rukia, you misplaced Cotton and need to restart.

if all goes well, Rukia can now be saved.

On the enemies' turn, Margus is going to get hit HARD! once that is over, use Ansom to attack the enemy he attacked the previous turn, that enemy's position should be right behind Margus. If so, proceed to move Margus back 5 spaces, he will kill the solder in his path and he will also be out of range from the other two soldiers. Use Marie and heal him.

Continue zoning your enemy. When he's free, move Serdic towards the right side entrance to meet up with Rukia, you shouldnt need him for the castle battle.

of the 3 threats Rukia was facing, she should have 2 of them on her tail thanks to Margus' distraction (one of them will remain fully focused on Margus). Rukia and those soldiers both have 6 MOV so they will never overtake her. Once Serdic reaches her, he should be able to handle them... but to be sure bring Alhambra too!

When all is clear, move Ansom up to the balcony-ish area and snipe the boss to death

EDIT:

also, experience tells me the shooting range of enemy archers is equivalent to their MOV.

SOB i still cant get past map 5......stupid freakin archers. LOL

this is just sad if my army of 12+ level cant be up a army of level 6-8

love to find this game Sub 20

love to find this game Sub 20
that's the stage where u recruit Ansom right??

if I recall, there is only one problematic archer, the one standing in the right hallway, you will need Kay to beat him.

The archer has attack range 6 and Kay have 8 MOV, so if you position Kay just outside of the archers' range he can get one hit off him.

Kay may still take another hit since he will most likely not kill the archer,

but eventually if you talk to Marie she will begin to heal your characters so it's all good.

from there just bait the boss to come to you, and rush him with all your army...

also make sure to recruit Ansom!! he's my most powerful player!!

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't decide that I should move next to him in that level after opening up the cell. He's currently level 22, five levels ahead of the next person in my party.

Somehow managed to recruit Shino last night... not sure how anyone else did it,
but I decided to barricade myself in the choke point of the pass, where the only person that could be attacked was Margus. Easily healed him and took out anyone who managed to pass by his ZOC, until I just had a few archers to worry about. And then just tried to avoid losing everyone to the cavalry sweeping up behind.

one thing i noticed about this game is when you level, the only real thing that goes up is hp (not including your mages) so absically u can take more hits, but you still can't be too inattentive. If your having a hard time, leveling a couple times won't help, leveling a shit ton will. when margus gets ZOC, the game gets retardedly easier, just stack defense items, and start codexing away.

I'll be picking this game up today when I cash my check. Still undecided if I want to get TWEWY too, or just gamefly it. Srpg's tend to give me more gameplay, lord knows I still play FFT on my psp, and I've had it for months.

I just got to the stage where u recruit Ingraine...

seriously it's such a no-brainer simple stage, a very welcome change of pace for once...

prolly the last stage that was this easy is the stage where u get Alhambra

figured out the archers dont move on the left so just take the entire party right... you do run into a few archers but its not as bad as the left hand side...

funny thing is 4 1/2 hours trying to beat map 5

burned though map 6, 7. 8, 10, 11 (didnt do map 9 couldnt save everyone in map 8)

with pickin up all the people with no problem.

just waiting to run into another wall like map 5 soon though,.,,

love this game

Has anyone found a use for the thief characters yet? They are melee characters that die in one hit which basically means they're useless. At least the ninja can hide. Right now I've been using Owl as my shopper and training the others rather then using them in battle.

It sucks that I missed Cotton earlier without even realizing it. I'm not going to restart so I'll just go for her in new game+.

This is NOT my game then

I did read one review that said the first mission is disproportionately hard though, for what that's worth. I was wondering if I could pick this up in the Toy's R Us deal...but no. I know lots of people like hard games, but I prefer it if at most I have to retry maybe a couple of times in the whole game.

might be hard but it grows on you...... once i figured you run threw people to hurt them i got past stage 1 easy

on stage 13 right now (after learning pass threw to hurt)

stage 1 - 4 easy
Stage 5 major pain in the ass
State 6-12 sort of easy (didnt do 9)

Stage 13 once again major hard

i think there are 35 stages so its probally at least a good 30+ hour rpg game

which one was map 14 neways?

by hardest and longest fight was most definetly the fight 32 or 33, (fuck RESPAWNS)
edit 2: in fact, fuck the land of ice. ASPGOJASPFOJAPSFOJAS by far the dumbest mechanic i've seen in this game is clumps of 4 mages with magic ranges of like...10. dumbest frustrating thing ever.

edit: only thief characters i ever used was izuna and alhambra, the others just died as if they were made out of paper...those two have at least enough hp to survive 2-3 hits.
boom Map 14 is a $#$#$# hard... right after you get elmer... seems i need to level build again...
that map is hella easy... just send alhambra and Kay on solo missions to kill mages one by one... they got 8 MOV while the max range of mages in thst stage is 6 (and maybe one dood with 7)

the hardest part is actually getting Elmer becoz Selmer will need to be strong enough to survive one attack... otherwise you're not getting him

gonna have to learn this technique soon to survive the end stages...park a high hp tank in front of elmer and just sit there taking his hits til his mana is drained, then run selmer to him
gonna have to learn this technique soon to survive the end stages...park a high hp tank in front of elmer and just sit there taking his hits til his mana is drained, then run selmer to him
That's basically what I did. Margus was down between the two buildings south of him until I could get Selmer and a few other people within one move distance. Selmer recruits without getting attacked, and I have Kay or someone around to clean up anyone in the immediate vicinity.

Mission 16 is hard as hell. I was one turn away from taking out one of the guys, but no luck. Kinda wish I had decided to retry that one, lost a lot of good exp. The problem I've discovered with ZOC is that it sort of loses its effectiveness when he blocks someone, but they get randomly thrown ahead of him anyway because there's no space available next to him. Granted it works okay in that level since I can clean up those people with the guys I have hanging back, but still silly.

yeah, the whole ZOC where the ppl are sent to god knows where is a big annoyance.

i still remember losing a stage since i used serdic to try to finish a 20 hp soldier, and he retaliated and knocked me into range of a mage who promptly one shotted me
gonna have to learn this technique soon to survive the end stages...park a high hp tank in front of elmer and just sit there taking his hits til his mana is drained, then run selmer to him
I've been doing something like this actually...

I park Margus with either Selmer (Ice Spear) or Cotton (Thunder) behind him,

on my turn I use Marie to teleport him out of the way, use my mage to do a 5-range hella powerful attack, usually killing the 4 ppl in front of Margus,

then move Margus back in place! He has a lot of HP and DEF so I dont really need to recover his HP, and if I did I would have another dood on standby to use an item on him...

of course, this only works in narrow passages... such as the stage you get Shino at, or the stage that Botticus is troubling on (use this setup at the base of the bridge to defeat Ernest)

Though I don't think I've leveled it up enough to be that great yet.

yeay Ice Spear is strong but not that strong, I have it at lvl 3 or 4 I think, with a level 3 or 4 on Selm's Ice Magic damage,

I used him for the Shino stage coz since the opponents did not have enough MOV to get past my 6 man barricade, leaving him in the front of the chain was safe and I used him to cripple the line, send Alhambra out to finish the crippled soldiers, and teleport her back.

it's not safe to leave a mage in front of the bridge on stage 16 or whatever so I need Margus, and also I use Cotton since thunder is pretty much guaranteed death

i'm on the last boss and needless to say...its too fucking hard. i want to kill little kittens after facing off with him. just a note, to everyone still in midgame, get some gd dark resistance items or dark resistance crap cuz this. is. retarded. one shots everyone.
any help on stage 16... how do you clear this..im getting my ##4 kicked
well do you have cotton??

what I did was move Margus (with ZOC) at the base of the bridge, put Cotton right behind him, and had the rest of my party chillin to their left, so it was a 2 x 3 block.

The cavaliers and shyt will line up in a single file on the bridge and try to attack your party, but ZOC will prevent anybody but Margus form getting hurt.

on your turn, teleport Margus close to you with Marie, use Thunder with Cotton (it should kill all 4 enemies in range, assuming you have the attack leveld up), and since Margus hasnt used his turn yet he can move back into place.

keep doing this until everybody but the boss is dead, then bring your fighters to confront the boss (Ernest btw) and kill him, make sure your fighters can survive a hit from him btw.

If you dont have Cotton, your substitute would be Ice Spear with Selmer, but Thunder is WAY more powerful and it will take you twice as long to use this method with Selmer (unless u wanna get some of your fighters dirty, or if Selmer is at some really high level)

of course, you dont have time to waste becoz while you're attacking, the other boss is coming your way

I hope no one was able to beat #16 with all their units intact. The mage boss apparently has like a 10+ range, so as soon as he was in place directly north of the bridge, usually Marie or Selmer was toast (but at least it was an area spell so he'd hurt some of his own people too), and they were at least 3 spaces below Margus.

But hey, I beat it.

to me it seemed he only had 8 attack range...

regardless I havent lost a fighter since mission 8, and it was a deliberate part of my strategy for making sure all the townspeople survive so I can get Cotton in the next stage

like I replay stages, every time I lose a player I evaluate why I lost them... I try to figure out where my step was wrong and if I need to change my characters up

that's prolly why I enjoy this game so much, I keep trying to discover flawless strategies for each stage

Yeah, I'm not hardcore enough for that. I save that sort of strategy for subsequent playthroughs. I lose at least one or two, and usually the majority every map. Part of that might be because I try to play through as quickly as possible assuming that number of phases has a large effect on your score.

And for Ernest... yeah, somehow his attack that killed Marie was far enough to inflict damage on the group of riders coming up from the south. That, my friend, is ridiculous.

easier way to beat level 16 is run towards the other army... they will line up with your troops for an easy win.....

now map 18 how important is it to save those people in the middle who is about to get killed.. i can never get to them in time

Jekki, another edit for your unlockable character post:

Mission 18 - Yumiluma can also be recruited by Margus

I lucked into Simon; well, kinda luck, but I tried to force him to move where I wanted him to. Finally a level with no deaths! It's a bit easier to accomplish once you stop trying to move as quickly as possible.

I wonder if you even need to talk with Yumi & Simon to recruit them...

becoz ppl online are saying you only needed to talk to Yumi & u get Simon for free

but my theory tells me all you have to do is open the door... still I'm too lazy to test it out.

anyway, I got Izuna! damn her breasts are huge for a small game sprite!! whoo!!

and I'm at the branching point too!!

:saves two files:

It seems the branching point is the 2nd time I've noticed Marie suggest she knows Serdic is not the real Serdic.(there may be more moments btw... they prolly pop up during in battle conversations) Of what little story this game has, the point of it is supposed to be how Serdic is pretending to be the prince and nobody knows... except Marie I guess...
