Yeah, so since the PS2 JRPG discussion thread started to branch off I figured we'd bring back the RPG thread.

Final Fantasy IV is coming out pretty soon, Persona 4 is officially dropping in December and Tales of Vesperia will be out in a matter of weeks.

Talk!

Yeah I was kinda mad about that until I realize that it was pretttymuch Microsoft;s biggest deal in e3, and laughed a bit.

I've been slowing getting through Lost Odyssey (location:
I just beat Persona and am right before the fight with the 5 Arthrosaurus
). I've been checking it out from my library when it comes in and I only get it out for a few days at a time. I'm so close to the end I don't want to buy it, but I just want to finish it up! Maybe I'll rent it from GS or something.

After I finish up LO, I'll get back into Persona 3: FES.

Tales of Vesperia and Valkyria Chronicles both look awesome. I'm also gonna try out Infinite Undiscovery or whatever the hell it's called.

It's a little sad that their coup was basically "oh! now we're even!"

So the Tales demo is up now on Xbox Live for the U.S.?

Also I'm still playing the original Disgaea and Persona 3... I can't keep up with all the good games.

I will probably never finish FF X-2 (I really don't like it, but it's the story not the gameplay that I hate).

Shut the fuck up.

And I'm not even being a 360 fanboy or a sony hater, you just sound like such a fucking dick in this post.
Haha yeah this is a good day for Xbox RPG fans.

It's a good day for me too since I've been holding out on the current gen. systems.
Sweeeeeet!! X owned all and IX was atleast worth the price of admissing and VIII and XII I was dissapointed in as games I spent $50 on. But its still an RPG on the 360( I dont have a PS3 yet). Hopefully it turns out like X or atleast IX and less like VIII and XII.

Wow, I did not know Tales of Vesperia is coming so soon.

That's the only game I'm looking forward to for the time being. Hopefully, FFTA2 will keep me occupy until ToV comes out.

Yeah, Tales is supposed to be up. I really hope it's as good as Symphonia... it's so damn pretty, too.

Too Human demo is up, as well... but that sucks.

So I made a big order at gamestop a week or so ago and it finally came in. Alot of its just junk stuff like Freaky Flyers thats fun to play now and then and only cost me $3, it also boosts my collection numbers(trying to break 1,000 games). However there were a few great titles at the site like Shin Megami Devil Summoner and Y's for the PS2. Anyways, ofcourse every freaking meh game like Aqua Aqua or Freaky Flyers showed up with box and manual.....but Y's and SMT: Devil Summoner were incomplete! And ofcourse all 3 local gamestops didnt have the games!

So frustrating, even with the 26% discount that they do this!

Me and my bro decided on getting a 360, and I was unhappy that i might not play some of the cool rpgs PS3 will have, but then this announcement came and now I am happy to get it =P

Eh, sorry I offended you. I just find it sorta funny that the game going multiplatform would cause such an uproar, especially with the wave of SE games coming to 360.

The only RPG I could see being announced for PS3 anytime soon now that would really sell me is Dark Cloud 3. The first sucked but the second was really cool. Outside that it seems the major players are being split between the PS3 and 360. Mixed with the large amount of RPGs that hit the DS and PSP to boot I cant see grabbing a PS3 anytime soon. Even if DC3 was announced and looked amazing I probally still wouldnt grab it......now if they announced it and Sly Cooper 4 in addition...and maybe 1 more R&C game im sold.
We'd better see White Knight Story this year. Game looked to have a shitload of potential.
Ya it looked good, and my guess is we dont see new DC3 till its released.

White Knight Story isn't really piquing my interest at all.

Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts III might be interesting, if Square-Enix would divulge some information.

Hopefully we'll get some surprises down the line (nobody expected Disgaea when it dropped in the U.S.).

Kingdom Hearts 3 would be REALLY hard not to bite on. Heh if MS could lock that down as multi console or exclusive it would really kick Sony in the teeth.

There also hasn't been any information on KH 362/2 days and KH birth by sleep lately.

Ya it has been awhile since we heard anything about those. Maybe they will do well and KH3 would hit a hand held *dreams on*

I'm amazed that the general audience cares about FF after XII.

I don't hate it, but the game is like a mixture of FF XI and Gauntlet. You don't even really fight most of the time.

I read about its awesome translation, but half the time the characters sound like rejects from A Clockwork Orange auditions.

How do you guys feel about FF XII's story and dialogue? I thought it was actually some of the worst in recent memory. Valkyrie Profile 2 (while not amazing) was at least understandable, Persona 3 destroyed FF XII in terms of voice acting and translation and even Tales of the Abyss had a more functional translation.

Aside from the graphics and sound, I think FF XII is the worst game in the series (ignoring X-2, which had great gameplay but was too embarrassing to play).

For once we are in agreement. It seems that XII was pretty popular but I thought it was horrid both from a personal and trying to be objective stand point. The skill system was the weakest since the SNES days lacking the depth of VII-X. The gameplay wasnt bad but wasnt the step up it was proclaimed to be either. The story was ok but the charcters themselves were just a wreck lacking any real development and having far too little interaction.

Over all I thought it was a very weak entry into the series and id place it squarly towards the end of the series in quality. Worst over all since the NES days.

I hated FFXII at first but it grew on me. I loved being able to run around encounters when I didn't want to fight but it was still easy to grind a couple levels to ensure getting past bosses. Another thing going for it was the battle system that looked and felt like a spiritual successor to Vagrant Story. No, it wasn't a great FF but it's not the piece of shit everyone (and me originally) wants to say it is.

Story and dialogue were all right. It got you where you needed to go without getting too crazy. I'm just glad it was relatively bland so that the combat could take center stage.

The only thing I didn't like is that you can't control a guest. It was a pain in the ass that they kept using all my items instead of letting me heal them.

Gah I hate in Persona 3 so damn much dying because your charcters whom you have little to no control over do the wrong things. Im facing 5 enemies with Wind Resistance and 4 are already knocked down. What does my team do? Mazio followed by a normal attack. Nothing like letting the enemies get up then not hitting them with their weakness!

aaaagh! I FINALLY got to disc 2 in Tales of Symphonia!!

got damn man!!

to celebrate this achievement I went ahead and made my own funny internet cat picture...
Still haven't crossed to palmacosta yet........
Tis a shame. ToS was not just the best GC RPG but one of the best RPGs last gen period.

All this talk of ToS makes me want to replay the game.

Also, I actually enjoyed FXII. Sadly my ADD kicked in and I stopped playing the game(seems to happen with alot of games these days...)

Any of you ever play the Devil Summoner Shin Megami Tensei or Y's for PS2? I just got both of these from gamestop for $11(Y's)and $13(DS)but they both came with case and no manual. Its driving me up the wall and im not sure if I want to return them and just spend more on ebay for complete copies or try gamestop return and hope for the best.

I didn't like Devil Summoner because the battles felt clumsy and the random encounters were too frequent.

As I believe Chacrana said, it plays like a cheap Tales game.

The aesthetic is cool (1950's Japan), the story seems interesting, but otherwise I would say it's the weakest SMT game on PS2.

Devil Summoner was ok. I got to the last dungeon ans stopped playing it. I wasn't in the mood to fight every boss a second time.

So you guys think hang on to it at $13 with no manual or go ahead and get my money back and hold off for a copy for around the same price but complete? Im torn because $13 is hella cheap for a SMT game....but at the same time im wondering if this will be one SMT where the price stays low.

Just throw it in the trash or do whatever you've got to to get rid of it. It's a cheap SMT game, but it's also the worst one on the PS2 by a mile.

I actually finished it.... I dunno how I persevered that long.

If anyone cares, I got Disgaea 3 (US version) a bit early... It's not complete, but so far it is ehhh... I'll try to post detailed impressions if I can bear to play through it.

I only played it about 20 or so minutes before I knocked out on Sunday. So yea, I'll definitely try to give it more loving during the weekend.
