My favourite part about Crisis Core

I would take Cissnei over Aerith or Tifa any day.
Agreed.

I'm actually looking forward to Last Remnant more than IU, and Tales of Vesperia/Tales of Symphonia 2 more than both. Though I want them all pretty badly.

It seems like the 360 is becoming a pretty solid console for RPG fans. I am kind of tempted to pick one up used for Lost Odyssey, Fable 2, and Mass Effect.

That reminds me I have to find a copy of ToS before 2 hits.

I also want Last Remnant more than IU, but I still really want IU, and it's coming out way sooner.

But yeah, I need another RPG on the level of Lost Odyssey... damn that was a good game.
I'd be interested in ToS2 if it actually came out for a real next-gen system.
I agree with you 100%, but I'll take what I can get *sigh*

Last Remnant, ToV, Valkyria Chronicles, IU, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Too Human(rental), Star Ocean: First Departure, Persona 4, Ar Tonelico 2. Wowza.

That's just RPGs.. going to be a rough year on the wallet. Probably won't buy them all, but most.

Just spent $200+ on Geas of War Lancer, Rhapsody, and Disgaea DS. Plus I still need to get Tales of Vesperia Special Edition. Sometimes I hate this site.

Ya if it came out on the 360 it might have been a day 1 purchase for me where as now ill wait a long ass time. And damn I didnt know ToV was getting a limited edition *runs off to see what comes in it*

It seems there is a pre-order bonus for IU, problem is that I'm not sure if I want IU right now.... It comes out just after ToV and a few DVDs I'm buying (and maybe Disgaea 3).

I think it just comes in a steel case with a CD of selection songs from other Tales games.

RPG THREAD!

Um.

I'm about 8 hours into Xenosaga. So far the story is pretty good. Yeah, the massive number of cutscenes are a little over the top, but I'm having fun so far.

And Final Fantasy IV DS is pure 2-screen awesome. I love being able to see the map of the dungeon as I'm exploring, even tho most of these dungeons I know by heart.

OH, and 37 more days till Dragon Quest IV.:whee:

I still think I'm gonna wait for the reviews or at least some gameplay vids of Dragon Quest IV before I pick that one up. It still seems like the kind of game you need nostalgia for, but hopefully that's not the case.

I can almost guarantee that that's the case.

That just means one less game to worry about buying.

Are there any other DS/PSP RPGs that I should keep an eye on?

Edit: Rei & Jest, Sure Cissnei is cute. But I'd still take Tifa over her.

No offense to you, but I don't get why people are into the Tales games at all. They just scream out "bland" and "generic" every time I see one. I don't get the appeal of these games at all.

That's because you've never played one of them. They're generic to a point, but they're not bland. The sidequests are great (speaking only for ToS right now, I have Abyss but I'm playing a couple RPGs before I play it) and you can easily sink hundreds of hours to it over countless playthroughs. See, the New Game+ feature is actually useful in Tales, unlike other games where the experience really only lasts through one playthrough.

It's just straight-up fun.

If you want to cut something for being generic and bland, knock Dragon Quest.

You fail. :nottalking:

I'm gonna go cry now. All this DQ hate is making me sad.

That's quite possible. I've only played DQ8, because I'm focusing on PS2 games right now. If I'm somehow incorrect in generalizing its fail as inherent in every previous DQ title, I do apologize. However, from reading fucktons of reviews, and hence the descriptions of people far more in-tune with the gaming world than I, DQ8 was supposedly an amazing step for the franchise, and it garnered great reviews. For the absolute snoozefest DQ8 was, I can't imagine its predecessors are any more amazing.

I think I found my new home on CAG, The RPG thread :) I cant believe I never seen this thread yet, but yes I am eagerly waiting and preordered

-Infinite Undiscovery
-Tales of Vesperia LE
-Too Human
-Fable 2 LE

I loved Tales of Symphonia and I liked Tales of Eternia kinda, but those are the only games in the series I've bothered to play all the way through... generally, they're fun games, though most of them aren't worth spending money on. They tend to be fairly generic.

Symphonia was easily my favorite Tales game though... well worth picking up.

Quoted for fucking truth. I never understood how that series got so popular. Every installments has done nothing but succeed in putting me to sleep.

Bah. For me I love those old-school RPGs like DQ and the easy and simplified gameplay they offer. No complex battle systems. No weird magic system. No hokey character upgrades. No long-ass cutscenes. Just simple and direct. They are perfectly suited for pick-up-and-play portable systems, because the story isn't so complex and convoluted like many of today's RPGs. You could probably put one down for a year and come back to it and jump back into things without missing much of a beat.

The thing is you can have a non-complex story and still be an interesting game. FFIV is a good example of that. The plot itself isn't overly complex, but it's entertaining and if it is deeper if you choose to look more into it.

I owned Lost Odyssesy since the day it came out and got to the 3rd disc but havent touched it since its been a good 7 or so months since I last played it....you would think I got bored of it but thats far from the truth.

I actually think the game is so awesome, I got an itch to play it, and Im about to scratch it :)
I think I found my new home on CAG, The RPG thread :) I cant believe I never seen this thread yet,
Yeah, the RPG thread has been dead since about last year I think. A lot of the regulars moved on to the GGT. Much thanks goes to willardhaven for finding a phoenix down and stuffing it up the RPG Thread's butt.

I wish fewer of these interesting RPGs were on portables... or at least that I could hook portables up to the TV (though the PSP slim can, I guess). I don't like playing on a tiny-ass screen. I wanna enjoy the game, and that ain't the way to do it.

This is late but I'm going to agree that Cissnei is the hottie of Crisis Core. I would've chosen her over Aerith anyday. And what the hell is up with Tifa's outfit?

Oh, and I'm all about RPGs on portable. I just don't want to risk the burn in that any menu heavy game would bring upon my TV.
I wish fewer of these interesting RPGs were on portables...
Example? Most of what I think are interesting on portables are remakes.

Stuff like Final Fantasy IV or Chrono Trigger DS or Crisis Core. Mostly remakes, yeah, but still... I wanna play em on something nicer than a broke-ass DS/PSP.
Chrono Trigger's on the Playstation, if you wanted to play it on the TV. IIRC it's in either Chronicles or Anthology.
Chronicles.

Awww this topics been dead all week and it finally gets busy when im gone. We even had a good DQ bash a thon too! DQ sucks. Honestly it really really sucks. The series is stuck in the Jurassic age, even VIII was nothing but a mindless grind fest with far too little plot and a weak skill system/gameplay. The Japanese need to be sat down and examined for liking this series so much. I can remember flipping when DQVII came stateside because I had loyally read my Nintendo Powers salavating at this series for many years.....just to find my hopes come to a crashing halt upon getting the game.
Ew why would you play CT on your PS1?
It wasn't really that bad. In hindsight, I should've just watched the exclusive cut scenes on Youtube and played the SNES version, but for those looking at the legal route, the Playstation version is undoubtedly easier to get ahold of.

It's easier to get, but it sucks. God, they made CT nigh-unplayable. I can't even believe that level of fuck-up exists.

Can't wait for the DS version.

Slowdown and loading problems? The only problem I ever had was with it taking a second to load the menu. That's it. Are you sure those other problems aren't in your heads?
Try playing it again. You'll notice it's not one second, but ten. And there's a lot more loading then just going to the menu.
I just timed it, and it only took 4:09 to load the menu. I am emulating it, so maybe that would explain the speed difference?
