Interesting. Again just a rumor with a source at this point but interesting none the less. On one hand Sony is getting its ass handed to them with the PSP and can do nothing to stop people downloading games for free to their PSP so a new system makes sense. On the other hand the PSP has slowly gained momentum and Sony still hasn't made what you would think is enough money with it.

What do you guys think? Personally I would rather not see it till very late 2010(which system delays might make happen anyways).

I thought I heard that Sony was not going to revise the current PSP any more, as in no PSP 4000. I don't doubt a PSP successor in 2009, I'm not holding my breath though.

edit - Now that I think about it, it doesn't surprise me that Sony would deny a revision to 4000 - they just released the 3000 - so I guess we will just have to wait and see what they do.

GOD DAMN IT SONY!!!!

Here I am, waiting for SONY to release a really good PSP and was about to jump on the 3k model, but stalled after reading about the stupid problems with it and seeing Sony will not fix it..now they are going to release a 4k model then the PSP2!?!?!?! :bomb: Come on guys, fix the damn screen and give us fucking internal storage..I don't care if it's 8 or 16 gigs...just give us SOMETHING!!!

this corresponds w/ an article that came out this week where a company that handles PMPs, and portable devices was saying that they got a contract w/ a big entertainment company. The official statement didn't say Sony, however the article that was reporting said that this compnay had a deal w/ Sony.

Given the current state of the economy on a worldwide basis, I find it hard to believe companies will be sinking much money into new hardware generations. They're gonna do their best to milk the current gen as much as possible, PSP and DS included.

Going forward, I don't really want to buy any handheld gaming consoles unless they're also cell phones. The iPhone isn't even designed for gaming and it's a serious competitor now.

I didn't care for my PSP all that much really. It was entertaining time-to-time but I grew bored of it. With that said, unless PSP2 becomes market leader, I won't be buying.

Which I doubt Sony will ever gain anything significant in the portable market. Nintendo has it locked up and with Apple showing interest through their iPhone and iPod Touch, I just don't see Sony being all that relevant here.

I'd be happy if they put out a new model of the current PSP without the UMD reader and with 10gb+ of internal storage for PSN games. Also improving the controls would be nice.
psp4k out in 09.

PSP2 will be a phone.
i saw on ign sony isnt gonna do that so more they rejected sony ericsson's idea

I wouldn't be surprised if a PSP-4000 gets released next year, Sony has revised the PSP roughly once a year since it came out. And with the mixed reception the 3000 has received, they might want to release another model sooner rather than later.

As for PSP2, I wouldn't hold my breath... Sony is in enough financial trouble right now as it is, the very last thing they need is another new console on their hands. I'm sure the PSP2 is in the planning or development stages right now, but we won't see it for a long time. The PSP still has a lot of life in it and Sony really needs to make it last as long as possible.
I'd buy that if it was an iPhone competitor.
It's not going to happen.

IMO I'm not sure this rumor makes very much sense. The 3000 hasn't been hacked to play PSP games yet as far as I know so I see no reason for Sony to revise the handheld yet again. Also for them to revise it again would not look very good to consumers IMO.

If the put out a system with 16gb or more internal storage space, dual analog sticks, a bright screen with a fast refresh rate, and full support for all the video codecs that the PS3 has.... then I'd buy it.

I thought PSP sales were pretty solid overall. I'm sure there's another redesign in the pipe, possibly by fall of this year. If it's not a "sequel" per se, it should be part of Sony's general "refreshening" process to make the unit cheaper to make/more interesting to sell.

PS3 is probably due for a more marketable refreshening itself soon as well...

if they choose to make a psp - 4000 it should have a ethernet port and a special ethernet cable so that on the part that connect to the psp is like the end of a usb cable and the part that connects to the Router or Modem is like a regular phone jack

thats the dumbest idea I heard. Everything is going wireless now.

go look up gripshift on ebay. and then think long and hard about why its going for that price.

Aren't people kind of sick of all the different PS3 configurations yet?

Why? Why the hell would you feel compelled to tether a handheld portable videogame system to an ethernet cable?!?

By the way, RJ-45 ethernet connectors are not identical to RJ-11 phone connectors, as you seem to think.

i kno but that would probally help ppl lag alot less

There is no PSP game that needs more bandwidth than provided by standard wifi (seriously, nowhere near that much), so wiring it wouldn't help. Your idea is idiotic. Sorry.

I read on a few sites that was the reason for the recent update because there was a way to play hacked games on it due to a security hole in the firmware. As to the PSP 3000 being officially I think it's a ways away but it will happen eventually. There's already a battery to put a 3000 in service mode.

If Sony wants the PSP to thrive they need to close all ways possible of hacking the unit.

Step 1 would or should be to go the Steam route. Sell all new PSP 1st and 3rd party titles via PSN.

No good reason, seeing as Fry's and other retailers still sell it for under $10.
I'm waiting for a psp with the bright screen and no interlacing problems. Only then will I finally buy one.
Do you understand what interlacing is? Where did this idiot meme about the PSP 3000 model, a device to which the term interlacing does not apply, get started?

Because even though it's a progressive display, the artifacts that users have reported happen to have an extremely close resemblance to interlacing artifacts? It's a good description even if it's not technically the same thing.

Is Gripshift selling for so much because people are not able to pirate it?
Is Gripshift selling for so much because people are not able to pirate it?
Hahaha, no. If people wanted it that bad that they'd pay $100 to play the game itself, then they would have bought it was $20.

The reason it's selling for so much is because it can be used to exploit the PSP-3000.
Why are you asking?
Because I've never heard anything about this nor any other stuff like this, probably because I do not pirate. But it can be helpful to know which games will go up or down in value because of their relation to this stuff. For instance - I should've bought Gripshift I saw last time at the store. I didn't know if this type of stuff is discussed in forums or if people put it on websites that are not forum based.

There is no way to predict what games will be found to be useful for exploits. But for the most up-to-date info, may I suggest Google?

The funny thing is, Gripshift was a pretty good yet very underappreciated game. I don't recall how high its original MSRP was but it likely would have done much better if given a bargain price as was done with N+.

I did notice that Fry's had sold out of it at $7.99. Meanwhile, Frantix (by the same developer) and Exit, are both $4.99 and gathering dust. It amazes me that even at those prices they just can't get rid of them. They're both quite enjoyable and any PSP owern lacking them should be thrilled to get such bargains.
