According to reports, the Fox News report on Mass Effect which suggested it was something of a porno flick has led to major US retailer Target pulling the game from shelves. In places, the game is supposedly in stock but employees are instructed not to sell it at all.
quote:

Following FOX's report that BioWare's Mass Effect game is actually a porno-flick, a lot of gamers and gaming-involved journalists slammed the TV channel's review of the game, and, believe it or not, even infamous anti-violent games lawyer Jack Thompson agreed that FOX was way off line.

Apparently, US retailer Target is either too scared or has the same experience in gaming as Cooper Lawrence, since they've begun pulling Mass Effect off shelves. What's even more absurd is that the game is actually in stock, but Target employees are not allowed to sell it...

Want more of this? I got more of this! Sex-stuffed titles like "Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laudae" or "Playboy the Mansion" are still on Target's shelves, of course situated in the proximity of The Bible Game... And they're at the discount section...

I'd like to know Dan Alexa's source on this. Did a Target rep just straight up tell him that "yeah we're not gonna sell this because of Fox News"? This story sounds completely fabricated for page views if you ask me.

EDIT: Actually it looks like the originally story comes from here: http://saladhats.com/?p=250
An unsubstantiated, uncredited blurb. :whistle2:k

If this actually happens then that sucks. I'm playing the game right now and have yet to even have the option to screw somebody. It is obviously not an important part of the game at all. Shame if they take it off shelves.

well, you could very easily call target and find out.

I can't imagine a Target management employee of any kind flat out saying, "Due to the report on Fox News we are currently declining to make this game available for sale at our store". I could be wrong but I find it incredibly unlikely. And in the very off chance it's true .. Fox News and their "expert" might have a defamation lawsuit on their hand.

Alright then Einstein, how would the author of the blurb/article know it's related to the Fox News report? If they can't substantiate their claim they're just making shit up ... just like I said.

Also, take a look at this ....

Yep. Sure looks like Target isn't selling it.

aaaahahaha, Jack Thompson thinks they're out of line. Seriously, the thought of this guy saying in a level-headed fashion "yeah, that was probably a bad call," is... weird.

Well, I'm not sure if this Target thing is true, but I do know that mass protests and boycotts happened in some Muslim country because they thought it was against their beliefs. (the part with the lesbian aliens kissing or whatever)
ManHunter or Manhunt?
I forget...

It was a Man Hunt*?!?! game... I recalled reading about this last year I think.

Anyways who cares, unless they do a clearance on it 0.0

Let's remember that Target has a history of pulling Mature content from shelves. Also, in my area at least, they don't shelve M-rated Wii games.

i run the electronics dept. at my target.. and i haven't gotten any communication regarding this.

then again, i run the department half-assedly..

This is either one of two things... utter bullshit, or some random Target managers getting all uppity on their own.

I can't believe that any actual corporate body would honestly issue an order like this, especially since nearly everyone involved in the piece, and some wacky-ass people who weren't, have gone on record to say that it may have been a mistake.

Then again, I guess nothing corporate America does surprises me anymore.
