DAMNIT! This game is just driving me nuts, I finally got to the very end of the game
where you are chasing Strelok around with the Guass Gun
and I have been completely out of medkits since the middle of hospital battle, and this difficulty is driving me nuts, also to add insult to injury, the game keeps crashing to desktop without any errors, now it has done it like 5 times in 5 or 6 minutes.
I just really want to finish the game but it is driving me crazy now.

Weird, I never ran into any crashes at the end of the game. Yeah that point of no return really made the game more difficult.
If you are having trouble at the end of the game, where you have to
break Strelok's psi protection, don't go through the portals. You can actually break the barrier from your starting position. I explained some of this in my spoiler tagged thing about the ending.
My first reaction was to shoot him from where I started and it actually works. So you can do that if you want, because going through those portals to reach him is insane even with med-kits.

That is what tried first as well, but I could only get him down to about where he has 30% of his psi protection left, and then he would run off completely to the left and I couldn't ever see him again.
Is there a trick to doing more damage to him? Also, I saw a weird glitch, where I was on top of that roof you first see him climbing off of, and I was fighting dudes, so I made a break for the portal, and suddenly, I see Strelok running across the building and then he goes into ladder climbing animation and just went right through the roof of the building. It was weird.

That does sound weird.
My strategy for the end was to:
just stand there and shoot him. More specifically, just keep shooting at him every chance you get. It also helps if you aim in front of him a little while he is running, that way you can still damage him and not have to wait for him to stop. So as soon as you appear on the walkway with the gauss rifle, start shooting at him.
If you are still having trouble, I will see if I can think of something else.

Yeah, I tried that at first, but see, the platform is kinda like Y and you are on the bottom part of it, and he is on the right wing of it, well I keep shooting at him, but he usually runs off too far to the left for me to hit him, and then I have no clue where he goes from there, so I guess you were able to down before he got out of sight?
I mean, I am hitting him, I am great at sniping in this game, it just doesn't seem to do much damage to him.
A little later I am gonna start back up at the beginning of the level and see what I can do.

Yeah I was able to
down him before he got out of sight. I incapacitated him so quickly, that I was a bit surprised that that was all I had to do. It just seemed too easy, but nope that's all you have to do. If you can't get him while he's in view then you are going to have to run through the portals. If you are going to run through the portals to catch him then I would suggest you drop everything except the stuff you ABSOLUTELY need. That way you can run as fast as you can for a pretty long time. For the most part just avoid all the enemies because Monolith soldiers are ing tough. Oh and don't use the gauss rifle on the Monolith unless you know for a fact you can hit them in the head because that gun is too slow. I would use the gun you have been using previously because it is probably better than the crap they give you(e.g. that one weird looking machine gun that you get with the gauss rifle).
I finally beat the game, thanks to Raz's advice, if not I would still be trying to go through those damn portals.
I first want to say that I absolutely LOVED this game. Although it did have a few bugs and a rather abrupt and abstract ending, I still loved it.
The level design was so much better this time around, they actually felt interesting and exciting, and also filled with many awesome moments, something the first game was kinda lacking in. Also, the difficulty was much better this time around, I only felt frustrated at 2 points in the game. (
The construction yard in Limansk and the Hospital.
)
Also, my thoughts on the ending:
Well, alot of people were saying that there was no conclusion with Scar. Well, it is pretty obvious that he just died. C-Con saw a chance to disable Strelok once he Psi protection was gone and it took it by causing a large emission to incapacitate Strelok and prevent him from uncovering the secrets of C-Con. This also allowed them to reprogram most of the Clear Sky and Merc factions, converting them to monolith forces to further protect the secrets in the zone.
Also here is what I think happened on the 3 known expeditions to the center of the zone:
#1: Strelok, Ghost and Fang head to the center of the zone looking for the wish granter. Strelok gets hurt along the way and causes a large emission, and Ghost and Fang have to help him get to cover. This is seen by the PDA recovered in SoC with one of them saying: "We won't leave him behind!". Strelok is then left with Doc to recover while he plans his trip back to the zone. Also this first emission that Strelok causes is the one that hits Scar in the begining of CS.
#2: This time time Strelok is preparing for his trip and gathers the parts for a Psi protector, as well as the decoder nessecary to get past the locked door inside the NPP and into the C-Con HQ. Scar is hot on his heels and ends up destroying his Psi protection. C-Con makes a huge emission to kill Strelok and incapitate any other STALKERs. This kills Scar, and causes most of the Clear Sky and Merc factions to be assimilated into the Monolith soldiers. Also Strelok gets mixed up and reprogrammed to kill himself.
Also this last major emission is what kills of many of the zone inhabitants and causes teh abundance of artifacts that we find in SoC. This also closes off the route thru Limansk because of major radiation or anomalies. Also, because of this Duty and Freedom call off the major fighting and for the most part just stay away from each other. STALKER group is largely disbanded and the millitary starts cracking down on them.
#3: Strelok is now chasing himself back into the center of the zone. Following the exact same path that he took is second trip, but completely unknown to him, because he lost his memory. Finally he ends up reaching one of two possible endings, which one is cannonical is unknown for now.
He either assimilates himself into the C-Con after learning all it's secrets and C-Con continues to operate in the zone. OR he destroys the Zone, as represented in the ending video in SoC which we see him laying in a nice field of grass as he wonders if he did the right thing.
So yeah, you can see I put way too much thought into this game. I just really hope they will continue to make more games in this series. Maybe in a completely different Zone A La Roadside Picnic.

Yeah Clear Sky was definitely awesome.
I didn't have too much trouble at the Limansk Contstruction Yard. I actually enjoyed that part because
when I got most of the snipers, I switched my assualt rifle to its grenade function and unloaded on people. It was awesome watching some guy run for cover only to die from a propelled grenade. It was the perfect time too because I had a surplus of about 20 grenades and used almost all of them. It was crazy.
The hospital on the other hand,
was really difficult because I started running low on supplies. It didn't help that enemies also came from every angle. There really was no cover to hide behind. The game really changes pace once you go through that tunnel in Limansk. It is linear and guided. Limansk was awesome, but the hospital left some things to be desired. I mean once you enter the hospital the Clear Sky soldiers want you to take out a sniper. Well since I had a high powered sniper rifle and I could see him from where I started, I tried to snipe him, but it wouldn't work because that wasn't what the game wanted me to do. Shooting grenades into the MG bunker didn't work either. I thought all of this was really weird when all the other times during the game you have almost absolute freedom. Really odd, but it was an amazing setting. If only the pacing and difficulty was tuned more. Limansk and the hospital were probably some of the most interesting places in the games in terms of the visuals.
Wow that was a nice breakdown of both endings of both games. It helped put some of the events in perspective relative to Shadow of Chernobyl.
Concerning the endings:
I understand that there is not much one can do with a prequel since the events afterward are already determined. If they had both games in mind at the same time the story might of been told better, but I'll take what they gave us. I just wish there was more of conclusion or resolution with Scar.
In Shadow of Chernobyl, I got the happy ending; the ending where Strelok is laying in the grass. I thought that ending was great and it sort of closed the whole story. That was the ending that took the most to see, so I consider it official. The guys at GSC Gameworld are really talented, so I hope now that they are done with Clear Sky, that they can really do their next project the best it deserves. Both Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky could of used more time in development, so hopefully they will learn from their missteps. Another game in the Zone would be great, but I don't know how they would fit it in, or a completely new game would be awesome as well.

Concerning the future of the zone:
Have you ever read the book Roadside Picnic? STALKER was loosely based off of that book. In the book, these weird anomalous zones popped up all over earth without any warning. Nobody knows why, they just happened. Well, something I think would be very cool, would be if they simply had the zone move. I mean, Strelok really couldn't just wish for it to be gone and poof it is gone. I think that perhaps, the zone disappeared because it actually moved to completely different location. Much like the TV show Lost if you watch that.
Then maybe you could play as a character who is one of the first to rush into this new zone or something like that. I think think that would be a cool idea.

Concerning possible sequels:
Nah I haven't read Roadside Picnic or watched Lost, but I understand the Lost reference though. Yeah that would be really interesting if the Zone moved somewhere else. It has been a while since I beat Shadow of Chernobyl, but what if the Zone becoming peaceful was just a facade and that the worst was yet to come. As in there would be a gigantic emission that would cover most of the Western and Eastern Europe, slowly transforming the whole Earth. Then the world would become a wasteland and there are a ton of different things they could do with that.
It would cool if they could have one big world ala Far Cry 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3, etc. Then there would be a main storyline, but another major staple of the game could be, actually being a STALKER. There isn't much exploring for the sake of artifacts or discovering the Zone's secrets in these two games. In Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl there is the main story and some sidequests. It would be really interesting if you could BE a STALKER.
When I mean exploring/searching for artifacts I mean, using certain skills to track down the artifact. In Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl the artifacts were just randomly happened upon.
I don't know maybe that's one direction they could think about.

Yeah I definately agree, however in many matter, unless they pop out another prequel or something like that, it is probably gonna be a LONG time before we see another game from GSC. Which kinda saddens me.

Yeah you are right, it took them forever to finish Shadow of Chernobyl.
I hope they smoothed out their development process though to avoid that.
I just bought this game for $10 from Best Buy only to find that it's one of the recalled copies that lacked a CD-Key. I'd return it but I still want a copy, Best Buy is out, and I don't know of anyone else selling it even close to that price.
Is the multi-player worth the trouble I'd be putting myself through for a CD-Key?
Hell i even like shellshock 2 blood trails way more than i like S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear sky. The graphics for this game look nice and the sun rays and everything but the guns/interaction are lacking big time. Far cry 2 is a much better buy as well.

Nah, I wouldn't bother for just the MP.
I think GSC can get you a new key though.
[quote name='s2k']No the whole game is not worth it.
