It's Chouji's birthday!

And I'm at 0.0% so far since I just started downloading the movie. I'm not having luck get a good DL rate, but I'm hoping it improves in the morning.
 
I'll be uploading the movie on the webspace I'll have access to. It has a very good transfer rate, at least it does for me. If anyone wants the link to it, feel free to PM me. I'm currently uploading it right now and it won't be finished for another 4 hours.
 
I am somewhat disappointed that the mini movie wasn't included but it's a minor annoyance. Overall, I thought the movie kicked ass.
 
Here's a question Sneaky and I have been debating a bit. We're not completely sure about this: What's the difference between Rakiri and Chidori? We seem to think Chidori has more of a focus on the Sharingan's role in the move, but overall we can't figure it out. I chalk it up to the fact that they don't seem to want the same person using the same "special" move.

I just checked, adn they ARE different, the Rakiri doesn't make the same whining noise. But how else are they different?

Rakiri is a technique that Kakashi made up and he supposedly cut a lightning bolt with it (though I don't know how that would even be possible). It was the name of Chidori before Kakashi got the sharingan.
 
I remember one episode where they said Chidori was AKA Rakiri. To me they seem to be the same, but wanted to call it something else for a different character.
 
Just finished watching the movie. Overall, it was good. I'm just a little disappointed that the movie made Sasuke seem pretty weak :sad: But its only a minor complaint. Also I'm having a hard time trying to pin down where in the continuum this movie would fit.

I don't think Kakashi ever used the chidori that much before he got his sharingan. In the manga, I think they mention that the last mission he went on with Obito was the first time he uses the chidori. And of course that's the same mission where he gets his sharingan. I think Rakiri and Chidori are the same just different terminology.

I think it would be pretty much right after the Tsunade had taken her role as hokage.

From what I've heard (Haven't watched it yet), it's after Tsunade has become Hokage, but before Sasuke went all uber-emo on everyone and ran away with the Sound Four.

I'm guessing it has to be before the story arc about the big race then because that one leads directly into the sound four arc.

You have it backwards Karsh. You're supposed to watch the movie first then work on the paper. That way you won't have any distractions and you can dedicate your full attention to writing a great paper. If you do it the other way around, you'll be thinking about watching the Naruto movie and won't able to concentrate on the paper.

You know, I seriously just wrote down in my law paper that the person being arrested wasn't Danny Dealer, but Naruto. Maybe your theory might work. ;)

Well, he was still developing it before he got the sharingan. But of course, in order to develop it, you must actually use the technique in training. Just as Naruto was spending his time making spirals in trees to learn Rasengan, I'm sure Kakashi still had to spend time training to develop the technique so there was obviously a time period of him using it. It wasn't called Chidori then since he didn't perfect it yet but that doesn't mean the technique didn't exist beforehand. ;)

But to think Kakashi was able to cut through lightning without the sharingan is pretty far fetched, considering that the technique's greatest flaw is not being able to react in time to an opponent's counter.

I agree that the idea is far fetched but this IS Naruto, a ninja anime, we're talkin' about. It could also have been an accident. Assuming Kakashi did cut lightning (which I'm still not sure of despite the unbelievability in this anime), he might had done so unintentionally. And Kakashi doesn't have to run and thrust the technique. For all we know, he did it Ben Franklin-style and had a metal object connected to a kite or maybe he was holding a golf club just to see if the technique would work as opposed to doing so as a combat maneuver.

But the fact that Gai even knows about it leads me to believe that this happened during a mission or something where someone was able to witness it. Considering Kakashi's personality at the time it's doubtful he would have been training with other people around let alone Gai. Most likely he would have praticed it alone and since he doesn't seem like the bragging type, there's no way Gai would have known about it.
 
maybe its just me, but with the movie and some of the episodes I am sick of the most likely option. Naruto gets the snot beat out of him, somebody else does something, naruto then calls on the 9 tails and then he gets the energy to overcome whoever. I really hope this changes in the manga, cause if it doesnt, I might just have to take a break.

Well, Gai could've learned it after the Kakashi Gaiden story during one of their missions so, yes, Gai could've know about it but it still doesn't change the fact that it still existed beforehand when Kakashi was still developing it.

Well you just described Naruto's modis operandi. That's essentially what happens in each Naruto-featured episode.

Sure Naruto does call on the power of Kyuubi, but during the Naruto/Sasuke fight, he sure didn't walk away at the end...

Well a basic theme of the series is protecting those close to you, and that's usually why he goes all Kyuubi on them. But yeah it it does get repetative, but not every fight is centered on Naruto so it's not too bad.

So what did you guys think of the Naruto movie? I thought it was rather weak compared to the actual series, but then again it's 90 minutes of nonstop naruto, so i have no room to complain.

Story - Princess of the Snow Country... a bit cliched so just a 'meh' story along with cheesy plot devices (chakra armor? bleh)

Visuals - Using a lot of CGI (as expected of an animation movie) with detailed displays of the characters as well as hints as to their powers in the future (Sakura with her Sakura Fubuki No Jutsu)

Sounds - I like the ending song. A bit sappy but touching. The voice actors seemed to be in top form (although Sasuke did get snubbed dialogue wise). The sound effects weren't anything special though.

Bonuses - a bit weak in that there were few new things to see. That said, the few that WERE there were definitely nice: the Snow Country as a new previously unmentioned shinobi nation, Sakura's never-before-seen-or-heard new jutsu, Kakashi's use of Raikiri (or Chidori - the debate rages), the Snow shinobis' jutsus, and an unseen Sasuke jutsu.

Overall - I thought it was pretty sweet that we got to see Naruto and company chewin' gum and kickin' ass although it had a weak premise to move the story along but hey, it's still a fun romp in the Snow Country
