While taking a stroll through Target, I noticed the Saint's Row guide out.. which was weird, considering the game and guide is street dated. I then noticed the game already had a price tag on the shelf but there were no games there.. I'm assuming they were sold out.. I don't think they would prep a shelf space five days in advance, since it takes about ten seconds to make a price tag and whatnot.

So those looking for Saint's Row, check your local Target store.. maybe they broke street like they did with DS Lite.

I saw the exact same thing, a tagged shelf but no game...I assumed they were just making room for it in advance...don't know if the guide was there or not

I've never seen one with a tag on it though as a placeholder, its usually just an empty space with nothing in it. I've also never worked retail electronics.

From working at a Target, I can explain. They must have gone through an actual revision in the case, and Saint's Row is included in the planogram. Since when is a guide street dated? They don't have it, it just has a spot where it's going to go. I remember laughing at some of the ones that I knew weren't coming out for months.

I stopped by my local Target store, no dice. The guide wasn't even there. I have found games released early there. I got We Love Katamari a week or so early, which was awesome!

well yeah, most stores DO have it, it's a matter of putting it out. I know most places got Madden nearly a week in advance.

Guides are street dated with the game... supposed to be, anyway. I don't think anyone follows this rule.

I'm just dying to get my hands on this game.. it's going to be hard to wait a few more days.

Yeah I noticed the tag on Monday. I asked if they had any and he said no. I then asked a friend later on that works at the same Target and said that they got them on Monday, but couldn't put them out of course. I can't wait til Tues.

P.S. Does anybody know of any deals for it?

Funny. I actually the shelf, game, and guide on Monday when I was looking for Dead Rising and thought nothing of it. Oh and since I've finally broken my silence, I'm now the happy owner of a 360 premium with Dead Rising and DOA4. Couldn't hold out any longer with Dead Rising out.

Guides always come out a week early. But the sticker is because they update the planogram everyweek and since saints comes out next week they made a space for it.

Hrmmm....I wonder how up Rhino is on the street date? They usually get games later than everyone else, but if most all places have it by now and are just sitting on it, they might too. I may call today at lunch & just ask if they have the game.
Guides always come out a week early.
No, they don't.

OK, so hiccup saw the game.. instead of saying "oh ya its just shelf space cuz it comes out next week lol", why aren't you guys calling and asking?
No, they don't.

Because I want to see what other people think of it?

Was available at Wal-Mart. Wouldn't allow me to purchase when I tryed scanning the item. You will have to get someone at Wal-Mart to sell it to you via handkeying in the game which is a big no-no.

I see guides on shelves one to two weeks prior to the release of the parent-game quite a bit.

When I worked at Kmart a couple of years ago, I recall that the guides never came with a street date.

Same thing happened to me, got my hopes up and all too.

I called my local Target and the guy in electronics said they had them in stock! Not sure if thet are for sale yet, though. I will find out tomorrow if they are because I just opened a checking account and I didn't take out enough money to cover the game. Wish me luck!

Damn, this thread title made it sound like Target already had them available and I could just stroll down there and get it tommorrow... not that I'm going to have to call a ton of stores and try and convince someone to sell it to me 3 days early.

I think I'll just wait those three or four days, unless more people are finding it and being able to purchase it.

I checked all four of the local stores, and none of them had it on the shelf. They all had a slot for it, but only one clerk said it was in the back they just couldn't sell it yet.

So what's the tally on this so far?

Wal-Mart has it, but even if it's out the computer won't let them sell it.

Target has them, but it's a toss up on whether you get a dumb employee or not. Maybe we can get a # for an employee to look up, similar to the DS Lite?

Will TRU break the street date like with the Vision Camera?
Will TRU break the street date like with the Vision Camera?

TRU has broken the street date. It'll probably vary from store to store, but I know for a fact people have been buying them.
Yay for literacy!

The game is in most stores, it's just getting someone who doesn't know what's going on and getting them to sell it to you that's the hard part, sometimes.

And in my 7 year EB employee history I can't think of a single street dated guide. Maybe some movie tie in game guides, but not a specific title comes to mind. Anyone know of one?

I was working electronics and there was a tag there last week with the grey out of stock dot. It's gotten switched with something else since then, I think they put MLB 2K6 there for now.

Good luck and don't forget the chicken! mmmm!

I looked around, couldn't find it. I also hit up TRU and couldn't find the camera. When is that supposed to come out? Anyway, I guess I will have to wait till next weekend to play SR. Oh well.

Ive never heard of a street dated guide. Contrary to what Scorch said, guides normally do ship a week or so before release. Not 100% of the time, but most. Just because you don't see them on the shelf does not mean the guides are not in the back room. We always put the guide out becayse if someone saw a guide they may be hyped enough to pre-order the game.
well some "pirates" are probably playing Saints Row now. I don't like the appeal of losing live though ;)
Yeah they leaked it on some of the sites.

this isn't so much of a bargain, just that I went to a local walmart supercenter (south side St. Petersburg FL) and they had in the case copies of Saints Row for sale. It comes out later this week everywhere else. I would have picked it up, but I already have it on preorder paid off at gamestop.

how do you figure you will lose Live?

I was at my local blockbuster on Friday finally getting a copy of Dead Rising and the guy behind the counter said, "Hey we got 5 copies of this game in (holding a copy of Saints Row) but I can't rent it to you until Tuesday. If you want, I'll hold you one."

So stores are getting them. Just a matter of putting them out, I suppose.

We've established that.

Just like if you had hacked your original X-box, Microsoft has a way of detecting hacked/pirated/etc. software once you connect to X-box live, so they ban your IP (or gamertag or specific console, I'm not sure exactly how it works).

I think I'm just happy that this game seems to have already shipped to most retailers which means it will be easier to actually find on Tuesday instead of having to deal with Tuesday being the ship date and then not having the game in stock until Wednesday or Thursday.

I second that - TUE is my b-day and I plan to stay home from work, order pizza - pick up + play game etc. :) I thought right along those lines and even called back to confirm they physically had it on hand so I can walk in @ 9:00 AM and get it. -Anyone happen to know if BestBuy have theirs on hand as I usually plan to use my REWARDS for stuff like this.

I know that they will ban it, but I was assuming that when he said "pirates" he just meant the people that cheated the system and got the game early the lawful way by just purchasing it. Plus, has the 360 truly been hacked and modded yet like the original was. And also most people that mod Xbox don't use live. And if they do they are just idiots. Most people just create their own server.

Has this actually been a problem with any 360 games yet. I know that all stores, by me have had the games out when they opened up on the release date of the game. I don't think there has been a single game that ended up coming out after I was supposed to.
dude - prior posts suggests (as it is common for Walmart) that they (as well as Target's etc.) have them on the shelves however can't scan them yet until street date. I suspect you didn't actually try to buy one, but rather just saw them sitting there.

Actually, Target's computers won't adhere to a specific date, so it should be real easy to buy it there.

What sucks is that the Wal-Mart the dude saw it at is like 10 minutes away from me, but I'm not even going to waste time trying. Has ANYONE found it at and bought it at a Target yet?

Well, just a couple weeks ago there was Dead Rising. The ship date was on a Tuesday and most stores didn't have it until Wednesday or Thursday.

Without naming names, I know a guys that has been playing pirated games for nearly a month and so far has not gotten caught. He was even playing Saint's Row last night while connected to Live. Now, if you mean they can detect it if you play online as in multiplayer then I would imagine that is true (I didn't ask him) but supposedly you can at least play while being 'online' without being banned or anything (then again it's possible they just haven't banned him YET).

Back to what I had said about the modding. The 360 has been figured out so that you can play a copy of a burned game. However, since the 360 supports dvd-r playback, it is possible that the system cannot tell that it is a copied game if done correctly. Whereas the original Xbox modding was done mostly by playing of a bigger hard drive which is easier to detect. I haven't seen anything of 360 playing of a hard drive. Yet. I also haven't looked too much.
