I figured it's time we make a thread like this for all of the Sam's Club deals/clearance sales.

I work at Sam's in Orlando and did a price check at our store

Batman was $37.81
Bionic Commando was $13
Rainbow Vegas 2 $ 13
Fear 2 $9
Overlord$9

pretty much all the games are cheaper than listed. with the exception of recent releases

What a tease!

I checked out my Sam's Club today (Auburn Hills, MI), and they had one copy of Punch Out! left. Of course in typical Sam's Club fashion it wasn't the actual game on the shelf, rather a placeholder.

Then suprise, I get to the register and they go to pull the game and it's missing. I had the service desk call up the other 3 locations I'd be willing to drive to and it's sold out everywhere.

But hey, at least I got one of those huge Sam's Club hotdogs with sourkraut. That made the trip out there worth it by itself.

:psp:
PSP-3000 (black, core pack) - 119.81

:ps2:
90001 PS2 (charcoal black console + controller) - 69.81
combo pack: PS2 Dualshock controller + 8MB memory card - 18.81

:wii:
Animal Crossing City Folk - 9.81
Super Paper Mario - 32.81

Another vote for their hotdog/drink combo.

Someone posted earlier that anything with $xx.81 was a chain wide clearance. I don't know if that is correct or not but I have seen alot of games with those type of prices marked on the cardboard place holders. Some stores seem to be doing their own clearancing though because alot of the games I have got did not end with .81 but I got them for less then $10 most less then $7. Also not all prices marked are not currant as some are ringing up lower. I took a couple of the cardboard place holders over to the Jewelry counter and was able to get them price checked. Someone else suggested the customer service desk for price checks but at my stores that is always at least a 10 min. wait in line.

Has anyone ever found a game that was improperly marked at a higher price than it rang up at Sam's Club?

There are a few games I want that have been listed at a lower price in this forum than they are stickered (or just have the original price stickered) at my local Sam's club.

... I also noticed that there was a repackaged :ps3: Wolverine on the shelf for $35.xx, when I purchased the same game at the same Sam's Club for $19.xx on Christmas Eve.

The Wolverine game actually did go back up in price. As for your initial question, yes, it happens all the time there. In other threads before this thread existed, and even in this thread, you will find instances where they just don't mark their clearance and games can be significantly cheaper than the tag says. It just matters how lazy your store is. My store is pretty on the spot in the electronics department, but half the other stuff I get there doesn't ring up the same as it has on the shelf tag.

Heads up, while I don't have a copy of it yet, my buddy called to let me know there was a Sam's Club one day pass in today's Sunday paper SmartSource coupon section.

This is for the Sacramento Bee but probably applies to other Sunday papers as well.

You should post a scan.

I checked the Sam's Club in Easton, PA today while my family was up at Mt. Airy Casino in Mt. Pocono.

The only deal I saw for any system was GTA IV for :ps3: for $8.81.

Unfortunately, since they don't do the one day passes anymore, I signed some bs book and I would've had to pay for a membership and then paid the $8.81(plus tax) for the game.

But the sign by customer service does say if you're dissatisfied with your membership at ANY time they will refund it in full.

I wonder if I could sign up, buy a game and say I'm not happy with the $40 membership fee on the way out the door, walk over the customer service and get a refund.:lol:

Cuz I hate to say it, but I doubt I'm ever going to need Charmin by the fuckin' case, even though many people tell me I'm full of shit on a daily basis.

My Sams had the box for Punchout at 45.86, but game rang up at the 8.98 price.

One other store was fairly organized and Punchout was clearly marked 8.xx. The other two were disastrous with cards all over, higher marked prices, lots of cards out for games they couldn't find in the lockup (boo, no inFamous for me), and no cards out for games they actually did have in stock. Of course, the well marked stores were the most picked over and the closest to my house. Oh well, looks like I'm on the lookout for Wolfenstein and Animal Crossing now so I'll have to head out to the messy stores again.

Found some Wii Punchout! and Grand Slam Tennis. CML if anyone is interested.

I price checked both PS3 Wolverine & Wolfenstein and didn't see either for $10.XX -- I guess it was supposed to be 360 Wolfenstein which I didn't check. Oh well, not interested in that and it doesn't seem to be a good flip either.

Ok. I understand that $69.xx is a good price for a PS2 console, but why would anyone buy one?

If you own PS2 games, you likely already have a PS2 or have a backwards compatible PS3, right? ... or are people buying them in order to get into old PS2 games?

I am not trying to be demeaning, I just want to understand the logic.

  • Their old launch ps2 is slowing but surely dying and it won't play blue disc games.
  • It is good to have a back up.
  • Collector's like to have sealed stuff around (who wouldn't love to have a sealed NES)
  • Persons going crazy over BC (like me) failed to realize playing ps2 games on their ps3 causes more wear and tear on the system (thus leading to premature console failure and then having to replace an irreplaceable system).
  • People want one to mod
  • People want one in bedroom, living room and bathroom.
  • They needed a new controller but for $40 more, they get a new system.
  • They were going to get a DVD player for $40 but said, "What the hell."
  • Their niece's, nephew's, cousin's, etc. daddy stole the last ps2 he or she had and sold it for an 8 ball.
  • Half price is hard to resist.
  • The systems list for a little over $130 on Amazon.com
I'm sure it is hard but please, try to consider that everyone is not exactly like you and different people have different reasons to purchase items.

Add

  • PS3 BC lags I think, so playing those PS2 and PS1 games works best on the PS2.
  • Silver PS2's are not made now.
  • Black PS2's are getting close to ending production, therefore finally ending the production of the PS2; only a few stores (Amazon, Best Buy, and Gamestop are among the very few) are willing to order more, and I think Sony will quit on them soon.
  • Many people prefer starting with brand new systems (myself included as I have had some systems I purchased used go bad).
  • They are now and going to continue being rare brand new.

Also it's a good first system for kids and even if you have a BC PS3, not all games will work if they require a special controller that isn't USB. One example I can think of is the DDR games.

I should also mention I remember seeing stacks of the final version of the NES in my local Toys R Us for $50 thinking a few times that I'll just get one the next time I visit. I came to regret waiting too long and not getting one.

I think it should be said that getting a final version of a good console is a good idea.

I was too cheap to pay the $500-600 for one of the early model PS3's that was fully BC, so if I want to play Just Cause or one of the PS2 GTA games, a PS2 is my best(and cheapest) option to be able to play them again.

What I can't believe is that the PS2 hasn't made it to the same level as the PS1 did as far as price. I remember buying one final PS1 before buying a PS2 and the price was $50 by that point.

The controllers and memory cards were also cheaper by then, which has been an issue with the PS2 peripherals this past gen, as they're still $24.99 MSRP for either.

Anyway, has anyone tried one of the one day pass things that were linked to in this thread(and others)? If so, did you have to print it up in full color to get it accepted? I ask because I don't have a printer at home, so I'd be using one from the library or something and they only have black & white ones.

Even @ $100, a new PS2 is a good deal considering the numerous worthwhile PS2 games. I used to have a PS2 (fat), but sold it about 6 years ago. At the time I was too busy with work to play it more. I do regret selling it, but w/e. I'll try to get one soon maybe.

Sigh I remember when PS2's first came out. Didn't get one till it was at the $200 mark. But that was when I was only a 3rd grader.
If you own PS2 games, you likely already have a PS2 or have a backwards compatible PS3, right?
My friend and I have fat PS2s that we bought back when PS2s were $300 (ugh, I know). His recently won't power up anymore. His new PS3 can't play PS2 games.

The retail price of the PS2 dropped to $100 just last year, but PS2 console sales don't happen very often. So, 30% off a new PS2 from Sam's was a good deal to him, considering that places like GameStop are selling used PS2s for $60 and he doesn't want a used system.

I bought a silver one to replace my launch PS2 someday and a black one for the nephew because he is starting to get into gaming.

I have a few PS2s, I have a 60GB PS3 and yet I still bought the Satin Silver PS2 90001. Why, you ask...

For starters, the 90001 is drop dead gorgeous and the Satin Silver really stands out. Secondly, I would never ever play PS2 games on my 60GB PS3 because emulation is still emulation and because I want my PS3 to last. Using emulation software takes a tax on systems and needlessly wears down the 1st gen blu-ray laser. Thirdly, I don't have a stand alone DVD player and playing DVDs on my PS2 seems a more logical choice over my 360/PS3. Finally, it was $69 for a brand new PS2 model that I don't have (and yes, there is a difference between the slims). That's fucking awesome! :bouncy:

As far as games go, the PS2 has an giant library and I can still find awesome games really cheap (today I found Sly 2 new for $5). Also, in March of this year the PS2 is getting Sakura Wars: So Long My Love which is my most anticipated game of 2010. The PS2 might not have the capabilities of the current consoles (although my Wii sometimes makes me wonder), but I've had a ton of fun with it over the past 9 years and I suspect I'll continue to have fun with it for years to come.

Haven't had a lagging problem on my 60GB. The smoothing feature and HDMI makes the games (esp. PS1 games) look nice.

The 60GB PS3 has the emotion chip so no software emulation. Honestly, it just looks so much better playing a PS2 game on a PS3 than a PS2. Now, the first released PS3s had only one Blue laser that was used to read everything. Sony now includes both a blue laser for Blu-Rays and a red laser for CDs and DVDs on every new PS3. Does using a blue laser to read PS2 games wear down the Blu-Ray laser? No one really knows, but I do not think so at all.

If you want to save your laser on your PS3, always eject the disc when you are done with it. Don't continuously leave a disc in the system. If you are seeing the blue light on your PS3, the disc is being read.

I don't have any proof. Things just tend to wear out the more that they are used. I thought that was pretty much common knowledge.

I bought my first PS2 quite recently! Haven't had the time/money to get into the current generation of consoles, which I'll probably get to when the next one comes along. If I went for a new one, this would've been a decent deal.
Look at what I started. Sorry guys, I felt like the poster was trolling.
Definitely not trolling ... I genuinely wanted to know some of the reasoning.

I have a backwards compatible PS3, and I have bought about 20 PS2 games over the past year (never owned a PS2). I had been trying to convince myself not to search for a PS2 system, but I too worry about my PS3 dying and possibly having to purchase a PS2 in the future.

Thanks for all the responses! They are highly appreciated.

What I meant was proof that PS2 games wear out the PS3 more than PS3 games. Any laser is going to wear out over time, duh, but that was not what you said.
Yep- no Batmans or Punch-Outs in Cookeville, TN. :/ Though a while back I found Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (PS3) for around $12, and Rock Band 2 (PS3) for around $7 (games only, of course).
Wow! Cookeville has a Sam's now! We had just gotten O'Charley and Outback when I started school there.
Well then, my question is, why would someone want a PS2 at this point in time?
I bought 4 PS2s on day one. I sold 3 for triple the price. By the time I actually started getting games for it the xbox came out. I used it more because my friends went with the xbox. After awhile I had one modded xbox upstairs and the legit one downstairs. I would buy my games but copy to the hacked. Friends would come over and we'd play on my home network for hours. The PS2 collected dust and then ended up in box in storage. NOW here it is years later and after listening to podcasts where classic PS2 games get mentions (ICO, Shadow of the Colossus). I realized all the games I missed out on. I'm finally giving the PS2 a workout.
The funny thing is I'm doing the same thing with the PS3. I look forward to playing the PS3 hits but haven't gotten a PS3 yet because the 360 gets played daily.
What I meant was proof that PS2 games wear out the PS3 more than PS3 games. Any laser is going to wear out over time, duh, but that was not what you said.
I was pointing to two separate concerns (albeit not as well as I could have). One concern I have is that it could cause my PS3 to run hot. Second, PS2 use is going to needlessly wear down the laser over time (we both seem to agree on the point that excessive use wears down optical drives). The longer I can avoid paying $150 to repair my PS3 the better, which is why I play PS2 games and DVDs on my PS2s. (I'm also a bit of a purist)

Back on topic, I saw the black PS2 90001 for the same price ($69.xx) and I saw a Brain Age DSi in the cage, but didn't ask for a price check.

I've also noticed that my local Sams Clubs have started to move lots of games out of the cage and onto the floor which could mean a big drop in the near future. (If history is an indicator then they'll probably be marked $19.99 in a week or so)

Haha! Cookeville's had those for as long as I can remember. :p It's expanded quite a bit, and it's a bit of a shopping mecha now. :D

From what I've seen, the silver and black PS2s are both $69.81. I see the black PS2 at every Sam's, but the silver one is harder to find so I picked one up along with a black one.

I think the Sam's PS2s are at a good price point right now because the discount is good enough for people who want to keep it, but not so good for the people looking to profit on eBay, etc. Makes your chances of finding one a little better with a bulk of the competition sitting out.

Bad experience today, went to look for Punch-out, 2 cards are on the shelf marked at regular price. Bring cards up to the register and pay for the games. The game rings up at clearance price as indicated here. Waited almost 30 min and watched 3 associates run around and try to find the games, which the computer system indicated they had 5 of in stock. Finally they could not find the games and had to return my money (and of course I was questioned by the door lady about this). I sent a complaint to corporate, its ridiculous that I paid for the games and had to wait 30 min only for them not to find them. I don't understand whats so hard about keeping the proper amount of shelf tags on the shelf vs games in the back. This club is so disorganized, though its amusing to watch people run around looking for games for 30 min and not being able to find them. My family pays to belong to this club, service should be better.
