samsung 530 46" or sony xbr7 40"

I'm personally a big fan of Samsung products, they have never let me down.
Sony on the other hand with me at least have a tendency to break and stop working often.

Also you get a extra 6" with the Samsung.
 
5 as in a Series 5 Samsung LCD tv? Because those are older than the newer XBR-7 LCD tvs from Sony. I think the Series 7 or even 8 tvs from Samsung are supposed to compete with the XBR-7, not the Series 5.

Sony has great TVs. Its just that they're usually overpriced when compared to the competition and I'm assuming since you're comparing these two because they're similar in price. So go for XBR-7 if that's the case.
