Thanks OP. Ordered Samurai 7. I've never seen it, but it looks really good so why not? What about Devil May Cry? Any CAGs think it was good?

as i told you before Dark, yoou will NOT be disappointed by S7..it's amazing..and how could it not be with each eppy costing $300k to produce?
wow, gamestop sells cartoons now? cool.

how is samurai 7 & DMC (for a person who generally dislikes anime)
you get an F for Failed humor man..Bugs Bunny = cartoons...Kuzo from Samurai 7 = badass anime samurai. Watch the series and you'll see what i mean

still a cartoon ;)
one can be both, awesome and a cartoon.

before i order, anyway to get free shipping?

edit: blah, samurai 7 is not available for purchase. i woudve gotten it, too. i have 70$ in GS credit =[
may check out the B&M store 5 miles away that has it, according to the website.

Damn Samurai 7 is OOS.

This is a great way to use credit though. I think I want to pull the trigger on Gungrave-- opinions?

EDIT: Yes! Shin Chan Season 2 Part 2 is 16.99. Definitely grabbing that with my credit. That show is fantastic. Also Samurai Shamploo complete series-- it looks like it's the Blu Ray except in the title it says "DVD" For 24.99 I'll take my chances.
Wait a sec... the pic is of the blu-ray, but it only says DVD complete series...
To add to the confusion, the product description says...

"The buck wild samurais of the Champloo crew are carving up the competition on Blu-ray"

and yet the product item is listed as "Samurai Shamploo DVD"

I think whoever was in charge of writing out the product title fucked up.

I'm on the phone calling customer service... they're playing Final Fantasy VII music!
Yeah let me know Zen. I noticed that before I ordered. I bet it'll be the Blu-Ray. Right?!?!
Customer Service says it should be the Blu-ray version... if not, it can be returned quite easily with no cost to us.

Those Dragon Ball Z seasons for 14.99 each is actually a very good deal. It's been a while since I've seen the show so I might pick some up. It's what got me into anime to begin with really.

Until you realize you're watching DBZ and/or turn twelve-years-old, whichever comes first.

Well I still have fond memories of it from when I was a kid. I don't know if I'll feel different now that I'm older.

I just hate the treatment they gave to it. In order to make it widescreen, they hacked so much of the picture off. Take a look at some of the Amazon reviews and user submitted photos on how they chopped everything. It looks downright crappy.

Nevertheless, I did drop in some orders for season 4 and 9. Fond memories.

Damn why did you call? The DVDs cost MORE than the blu-rays. I would have took either for $25. Now its dead.

Well, based on the fact that Samurai 7 died soon after it was posted, I'm guessing that they did not have many of any of these in stock... I highly doubt my calling had anything to do with this deal dying.

I think I'm going to just get the Dragon Box instead. It just came out in November. It's in the original 4:3 ratio and has the original Japanese tracks and openings. Plus a cool hardcover book is included. It's $36 right now at Amazon which is a really good deal all things considered. I still might wait for it to come down, but I have a feeling these won't be around for long.

Shit. Wasting my money on these crappy sets. I'm glad to see they're doing the sets properly now. I'll probably just hold out for deals on these, maybe even sell off my current sets...

I wasn't impressed with Samurai 7. It doesn't do the original movie that it was based on justice.

DMC wasn't all that good.

They skimmed on the budget for both and it shows animation wise.

i used the website and my zipcode to find stores that have it, it was accurate and i just came back from a store w/ the BD of Samurai 7 as well as Afro Samurai BD (which i almost bought on amazon earlier today at 12$, but then saw this post).

i recommend everyone who wants these to check the store stock
For anyone asking, the Devil May Cry anime was a huge disappointment. Don't waste money on it.
check the store locator.

as for Samurai Shamploo, i only saw the DVD version in store, i was gonna blind buy it but they were out (dummy box was empty and non in back). So its probably not the BD.

the store also had a BD of the aforementioned DMC set and some DBZ box.

They screwed up Samurai Champloo BD transfer. I'd rather have the DVDs.

Before 'Samurai Champloo' even hit stores, there was already buzz about the release, with rumors of excessive DNR application purportedly ruining the detail levels of the program, with off color depth. Was the buzz accurate (think 'Gangs of New York'), or were rumors of its demise a "tad" exaggerated ('Gladiator')?
Perhaps a little bit of both.
With an AVC MPEG-4 upconverted 1080p (in 1.78:1) transfer, 'Champloo' is a bit of a video mess. The series will never look sparkling like many more recent shows do, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be presented in anything other than its natural state. Tinkering with video elements is never a good thing, and there are plenty of reviews here that prove such.
Color banding is evident, even in skin tones in close up shots. Solid colors and clothing don't suffer as much from banding as background elements. Some dancing grain looks like artifacting, but it isn't (while some light artifacting looks a bit like grain at times). Flashback grain looks awkward, as it doesn't remain constant. Some sequences have a light brightness flicker, while others sport solid lines that will fade in and out in small patches, possibly due to some of the tinkering. Some shots come through fuzz, lacking any clear definition, as well. While all of this can sound like there is another issue at hand, the DNR issue becomes loud and clear when grain freezes in place hideously, shifting every few seconds rather than constantly.
Items in distance shots, or in zoomed close ups have a blocky appearance, while others have a light color bleed around any exposed skin. Black levels vary in this moody program, but all look natural in their environments. Colors are wide-ranging, but not often all that bright (to be fair, though, the show isn't exactly sunshine, puppies, and kisses). In the baseball game, there are a few instances of heads disappearing, but this could be the fault of the animation, not the most egregious DNR ever.
Print out the Page & head to Bestbuy for Pricematch. I just spent all my GS credits
Hi. Call me a noob, but how do you make that work? I just called both Best Buy and Walmart and they both told me that they don't price match with competitor websites. It must be a print ad. Is there a work around or what?

Dont tell them it is a website. Gamestop is a local store.

well... first print it out. then don't call. walk in pick the stuff up and walk to a front register. have them scan the item. tell them you'd like to pricematch GS. show them the printout. either they say sure or they call a manager that either says sure or no way. if they say sure, walk out and go "ka-ching!!". if they say no, smile and say oh ok no problem have a nice day, then go to another one and try again.

nothing magic to it... but never call and ask and always be respectful when you get turned down esp if it is their actual policy. although nothing wrong with arguing a bit when they are definately in the wrong and just don't want to do it for you.
DBZ is freaking amazing... The box sets are beautiful...
The non-Dragon Box sets are anything but beautiful. Nobody should be buying those, ever.

Do you get huffy when people call Pan's Labyrinth a movie instead of "una pelicula"? Anime are cartoons, graphic novels and manga are comics. And I'd give better odds to Bugs in a fight.

To answer the other part of the other guy's question---DMC was boring trash, and you shouldn't waste your time. Stick with S7. Also, Samurai Champloo was quite enjoyable if you haven't had the chance.
