Saturn DVD Case Artwork Project

If anyone needs scans of the following let me know I can scan them:
Albert Odyssey
Dragon Force
The Legend of Oasis
Magic Knight Rayearth
Panzer Dragoon
Shining Force III
Shining the Holy Ark
Shining Wisdom

My dragon force cover has a little damage to it, so I am not sure if one of you photoshop wizards would be able to touch it up slightly if it is needed.

umm...all of them? If this really gets going again, we may need to contact Snowcone so he can add a Saturn section.

Currently trying to decide what to do with JPN imports, as they got regular jewel cases and aren't as easy to plug in. So far, I have this. Not near a finished product, but more of an example. The easiest part would be the spine probably, as they just use good ol'l bold Arial for the english side.

Metal Slug

Uncompressed

EDIT:

Been messing around with it some more. Cleaned it up and added a slightly custom back, instead of stretching. How do you like it?

EDIT #2:

This should be the final version. Cleaned up the spine, and fixed a couple things on the front. it's lookin niice. If any of you have any suggestions, let me know. This is how I plan on making all the JPN import covers if there aren't any objections.

Alright, all of my stuff sans Metal Slug have been uploaded to snackbar. And when I said that was the final version of Metal Slug? Yeah, I was wrong. Couldn't stop playing with it. THIS should be the final version. I've cleaned up basically everything, switched around a couple things, and now it looks a lot nicer now.

EDIT:

Today, using the Metal Slug as a template, I made this SamSho4, which turned out VERRRY nice.

You guys are awesome! I didn't think anyone else was still interested in this project.

I just wish I had a scanner so I could post cover scans of Baku Baku and Galactic Attack. Here's hoping this project takes off, I would love to put all my saturn games into DVD cases.

We may need to contact Snowcone for storage. There are tons of Saturn game covers here that I do not think anyone wants to lose.

I asked him about adding Saturn as an option to the uploader...and he added it....I uploaded a few the same week I went crazy with all these; like, 2-3 weeks ago? Still hasn't put them up...

Ok, I think I see the problem now. They just moved to snackbargames.com so maybe soon the covers will make an appearance on their website.

I did the following(US unless stated otherwise):

Albert Odyssey
Arcade's Greatest Hits
Area 51
Bug!
Burning Rangers
Bust-a-Move 3
Christmas Nights Into Dream (PAL)
Clockwork Knight
Clockwork Knight 2 (PAL)
Dark Savior

I'll try to upload them to snackbar, but I won't post them here unless they're requested.

alright, I thought about going back and changing the template for imports. Maybe something more akin to the PS1 covers.

I'd love to know what you guys think. Should I stick with what I had before (a few posts up), or start using this? I think it's a bit easier to insert stuff in and not as cluttery-looking.

btw, I also uploaded

-Exhumed (PAL)
-F1 Challenge
-Fighters Megamix

All to snackbar

I think you should start using this. It looks much better. Are you re-doing the covers currenty on snackbar to match the new ones?

Think I should use it for everything or just the imports?

Edit: nah, wouldn't work. It would squish them. Thus, I'll probably have to rework several different templates for the different styles of US/PAL boxarts. What I didn't like about the template on the first page is that it didn't blend in with everything, wasn't faithful to the originals, and looked a little cheesy.

Edit 2: OK, here's a new Arcade Hits.

Compared to the 1st:
What's the difference?

I may put a few artistic touches on a cover or two when I get back home for the hell of it.
First one is cleaner and will be used as a template for plain white covers. Second one was a sloppy pure insertion.

I think you should really use it for everything, it looks great.
As for your Arcade Hits, I like the first version better because I think the bluish Sega Saturn writing on the spine and front cover looks much better than the writing on your first cover. On a side note, how about placing the Sega Saturn writing and symbol on the upper half of the spine rather than on the lower half and maybe put a frame around them to set them apart from the game title. Just like with the PS2 and especially the Gamecube games, no matter what color the spine is the Sega Saturn writing and symbol always look the same and look real nice all lined up on the shelf

- As I said, I can't use it for everything unless I crop it, which I won't.
- The first version won't print out as neatly as the new versions, and not all of them have bluish tints like that. This'll be the uniform color for everything.
- Changing positioning on the spine wouldn't make it look as authentic. If someone else wants to do that, fine, but I want it resembling the original cases as much as possible; however, I don't mind putting a frame around the spine logo. It'll make it easier for insertion and make things look more uniform, like you said. Like this?:

But I'll be using the PS2-style covers for the imports, since there's no other better way to do them.

Perhaps I'm being a little selfish. I am mostly doing this for you guys, so I should probably listen. If the template on the first page is what you guys want to see, I can do that. I just need to fix it up a little. So expect that in the next couple days. Until then, I fixed up the imports and made an X-Men vs. Street Fighter cover.

I prefer your template to the one on the first page but would you mind making the frame a bit thicker to set it apart from the game title more clearly? That's something I noticed about the template on the first page.

And I absolutely love your idea to use a different style for US and import games and besides that template looks great.

Best way to do that would be to make the frame black or a dark grey to set it apart. I'll try it and see how it goes.

EDIT: Ok. Like this then?
Looks great! If you and the others like it as well maybe we could use this then.
sounds good. anyway, the spines on the import titles were gnawing at me, so I redid them all. I think they look a lot better, but I want to hear opinions before I upload them to snackbar for the final time. lol
Looks perfect to me.
Good enough for me. I edited the thumbnails so that they link to the new Snackbar uploads. I'll also email Snowcone to tell him the situation. I might just make another topic when I get all the templates done and situated. Doesn't look like magius is even around much anymore.
That is one sweet cover! Too bad, I don't have that game or a Saturn.
Comments are always welcome, whether you own the stuff or not. I found a 300dpi scan of Vandal Hearts, so I did it. I'll get the US templates done once I find an eyecandy plugin for Photoshop.

The pic on the back is actually the cover for the PS1 version, modified slightly by myself. i swapped around some colors to give it the blueish tint and gave it a slight charcoal effect. kinda neat, eh?

OK, I think I've figured out what to do with US covers. The plan is to, very simply, make everything a plain white. For example..

Versus the original..

This will make things more uniform and neater. Of course, this also eliminates a purpose of the frame. Should I keep it or not? Here's what it would look like without.

And basically what I did was select the stripes by color and white em out. And then airbrush out whatever was left behind. Easy stuff. btw, it's still not finished. I'm going to try to alter the text for the Saturn to be more blueish and mettalic.

Here's another.

Compared to the original...

And..

1. I still need to mess with the text some more. I'm awaiting something from Daroga for that
2. I still need an answer for the border. Keep it or leave it?
The Frame looks like crap, toss it.
Yeah, that's what I thought. alright, one more thing then. Should I keep the Saturn font I have now or make it more bluish/metallic, like this?
I like the blue/metallic one better myself.
Great, because that's what I was planning on going on. So far I have the following US covers (re)done in this style:

Albert Odyssey
Arcades Greatest Hits (Midway)
Area 51
BUG!
Bust-A-Move 3
Clockwork Knight
Daytona USA
F1 Challenge
X-Men: Children of the Atom
Megaman X4
Burning Rangers
Dark Savior
Daytons USA Champion Circuit Edition
Nights into Dreams...
Die Hard Arcade
Shining Force III
Fighter's Megamix

I'll start a new topic once everything that's on Snackbar has been redone and replaced. Right now, I only need to do a PAL template...And comments and constructive criticism are always welcome (otherwise, I'm unsure about what to do), even if you don't own the system/games.

I havent done DVD covers in a while... but I'm getting into this one.

I'll be creating the THINPak Series of Saturn Covers. I'll be modeling them after the Japan outline.

Heres a quick 10 minute test page.

Fantastic! I already e-mailed Snowcone so that he may add a slimline option to the upload page. I have also redone all of the covers and reuploaded them. They will all hopefully be up within a couple days maybe. I'll try to make a new updated topic by then.

Just to let you know, I'm still working on a perfected slimline cover, here's the progress so far.

I feel at this point, the slim Saturn Template is finished. Anyone with suggestions? As you can see, I trimmed up the main bar at the top to be a little more clean.

1st finished one - Daytona USA CE.

I really like the idea of saturn games in a thinkpak. Those large cases really stand out next to my ps2, xbox, and gc cases. Now if I could just find some good saturn games.

sweet mookyjooky, too bad i dont have a saturn lol. you need to up the hi rez versions to snackbar.

e-mailed snowcone about it a while ago. He said he was going to add a slimline option to the upload page soon. Mooky can upload em as soon as snowcone adds it, I figure.

As for my side of things, I still need to work out a few kinks. Every thing'll probably be sorted out at around the same time.
