Saudi Woman is Gang Raped; Get's 6 mos. prison, 200 lashes
What?! Injustice in the middle east?! NO WAI!
I refer you to the post above.

Pretty sick stuff, if you ask me. Cultural differences my ass.

Oh, wait, that's our culture (as in, a Westernized democracy)? Damn. Uh ... then I'm sure this is just an aberration and doesn't reflect on us as a whole.

Not a direct parallel, of course, but makes the point nonetheless.
that's really sad.

but at least it didn't happen in saudi arabia where the kid would have received 1000 lashes for not being with her parents and then her brother/father would have had to "honor" kill her.

just thought i would update this thread with the latest islamic honor murder i've read about.

in this case, dad strangled his daughter to death b/c she refused hijab.
She was sentenced for another reason than the thread title says she was. How the fuck is that not misleading?
The thread title didn't say anything about what she was sentenced for, it simply listed what she has suffered.

You make me sick, walking into this thread and spewing your bullshit trying to lessen the impact of the ills this woman has suffered. Have you no soul? Try learning some respect for human life.
Try learning some respect for human life.
Yeah! Especially on a messageboard! Yeah don't go out into real life and make a real difference because you can always Digg it!

SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM! OH YEAH!

I'm bad.

And apathetic.

And how many volunteer hours did you log this past year? I'd hardly say my 210 hours feeding the homeless and helping displaced families is anything close to my share of the burden, but at least I care about doing something to help those less fortunate then myself, instead of spending my time rebuking other people for speaking out against evil.
Not a direct parallel, of course, but makes the point nonetheless.
No, it doesn't. Not at all.

The sort of thing that we are discussing in this thread is everyday normality in nations that have accepted Islam as their rule of law. This is common occurance. This is HOW they handle these cases.

To quote the article you posted about australia, There is nothing culturally that would ever allow that sort of decision to be made.

The case is now being reviewed, along with every other case argued in that community for the past two years.

And I'd hardly call aboriginal communities entirely westernized. Especially considering they originated about as far east as you can get on the map.

I meant go to Saudi Arabia and picket for the woman. I find it silly to shit on a culture you can no control over and no alliance to. It's just a way to pass time and feign outrage.

Now for the crap that goes on in the States, I'm totally with shitting on that though. It's just like any fundementalist religion. Things go forwards. Things go backwards. Just like gay preachers who drop acid and pay their midnight cowboys for the good stuff and then say homosexuality is bad. But since they do happen here, it's okay to care about them. Besides, the majority of that country, men and women, probably agree with that judgement.
Islam doesn't have the market cornered on slaughter, barbarism, or misogyny, toots.
You mean evil things happen in other places? Well then I guess I should just ignore this one, I mean, evil happens elsewhere so complaining about injustice in one particular instance means ignoring injustice everywhere else.
I find it silly to shit on a culture you can no control over and no alliance to.
No alliance to? How about the alliance of having fellow human beings suffering under the brutal control of islam? I'd call the bonds of humanity the strongest fucking alliance you can get.

If it's so silly complaining about evils that you have no control of, then it's infinitely sillier trying to defend that evil. Especially with silly and ignorant "omgs yousa racist bigot!" comments.

You just seem overly zealous about it. Maybe too zealous if you get what I mean and all that it implies. And just because you did some community service doesn't mean there's nothing shady about you. Yeah, that's not the point at hand, but when people start getting self righteous, it makes me wonder how much they care about the subject at hand and how much they care about tooting their own horn.

Me. I'm honest. I'm apathetic. I'm the guy running around Hyrule Field in circles while Gannondorf is slaying people left and right and conquering kingdoms.

Awesome! Now we can go tit for tat, where I list every comparable travesty of justice in a western country, and you bend over backwards to write them all off as unrelated points, rather than that "pattern" you like to attribute elsewhere.

What's that? Rape victims jailed for ridiculous reasons? Denied emergency birth control? Must be all those muslims in Tampa and Cincinnati. Here, it's an aberration; there, it's just how they are, evidence to the contrary be damned. Boy, I wonder what bullshit title I should give my thread ...

I was responding to your ignorant claim that I don't do anything about improving the human situation but post on Digg.

Being angered at injustice in the middle east does not imply I am apathetic towards the injustice here in the states in any way, shape, or form.

I'm sorry man. Your post is going to be ignored over the seething islamic pseudo-bigoted banter going on in this thread (which really should be moved into the politics thread). Twas' a waste of time and effort my friend.

I was just ripping off Stephen Colbert when I used that Digg remark. Boy, I bet he's just chuckling at himself right now.

Besides, you ain't changing shit in the middle east and life is too short angry to be pissed all the time.

Try and find things to be happier about.

Ignorance sometimes is bliss.

Shit I'm almost out of Chinese fortune cookies...

My philosophy has everything to do with posting in this thread.

I'm having fun. I'm not angry.

And I'm trying to help you by offering my hand in experience and friendship to you.

And besides all my points have been rational, viable, and on the money.

Yeah. I was actually going to agree with Pyro, on a point: if you're going to be mad, be mad about all of it, but don't start with the "oh, that's THEM; when we do it, it's the exception to the rule" bullshit, because that whitewashes the problems in your own backyard with ignorance. But as you say, sometimes the truth has to stand for itself, and this ain't the place for it anyway.

I'm straight edge. Don't smoke. Don't drink. Don't do drugs. I practice what I preach my friend. Nice attempt at a low blow there but all it shows is that you're wrong again.

The truth educates people, which rids people of ignorance. And since, to quote Zen, "ignorance is bliss", the truth does nothing but shake people from a state of bliss.

Hakuna matata.

Ah what a rational, viable, on-the-money philosophy.

i don't know whether you're a fool, or you're fucking with me.

the first link, the woman was arrested (not LASHED) on the unrelated crime of not paying restitution that a court determined she owed. that's a little different than getting put in jail and getting 200 lashes for meeting up with a friend to pick up some old pictures.

the second link, the woman was put in contempt of courst for refusing to testify. there is something in the U.S. Constitution called having the right to face your accuser. if someone accused you of rape tomorrow, you have the right to cross-examine her in court to prove her wrong. she refused to testify and therefore he could not prove his innocence. the court is simply carrying out an extremely important provision of the Constitution.

I wasn't trying to imply you're a stoner, I was just saying this man has applied your rational, viable, on-the-money philosophy of apathy and blissful ignorance to his obviously quite meaningful and fulfilling life.

Then you should have posted up a video of those crows from Dumbo or Timon and Pumba. By using a stoner, you attempted to discredit what I was saying and it's blown up in your face like a vat of... stuff.

I'm not ignorant. I'm a realist.

Your highlights weren't, you know, misfuckingleading or anything. Thank goodness for that.

She got an increased sentence for :"The judges more than doubled the punishment for the victim because of "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media," And by the Judiciary they mean Da King.

The real problem was she met with an unrelated man. In their country you can't do that shit, or :"Women are also not allowed to testify in court unless it is about a private matter that was not observed by a man, and they are not allowed to vote." which she also tried to do, and discussing it all with the Media, thus making it a world issue is seen as shitting on the government/King.

Look, if women there love it so much, let them bask in it. If they hate it, let them do something, together, internally about it. If I were the woman and knew the laws of the land did not favor women, I think I'd fucking leave post-haste. Maybe get a relative to murder the rapists. Fun stuff.
