There's been ALOT of reports of scammers swindling people out of Katrina relief money.

According to the NOPD police chief 500+ officers turned in there badges(ie: quit) before the storm hit land.

There's been A TON of talk/anger/outrage about the looters but i want to get peoples opinions on the Scammers & Coward Cops.

They aren't "coward cops". At all. If you saw the sights down there, you'd probably turn in your badge as well. I know I would. I only heard that 200 turned in their badges, and that was AFTER the storm had hit.

It's all just a sad state of affairs.

I guess it depends on the intentions of the quitting officers, too. Yeah, it's not good if they are just leaving because they don't want to help. But can you blame those too much who had families and were some of the few smart ones that actually picked up and left before everything they had was destroyed?

Now, if those cops were doing that for the sole reason that they didn't want to help or deal with it, then that is bad. Somebody needs to help people, and if the cops are too afraid or self centered to stand up, then that's sad.

But who knows, maybe it could turn out to be a good thing in the end. With all the discussion about corrupt law enforcement, I would imagine that those would be the first to leave when called upon in an emergency situation. Maybe there will be less corruption when they build up the new police force. Just trying to see a positive out of that, I guess.

i say scammer cause at least the cops down there are goin through the all the shit. Scammers are sitting in their nice house bilkin people who are trying to help

Oh yeah, the voting thing. I say scammers also.

Maybe you should add a poll. Or can you not do that after posting the thread?

I like to imagine that although though those cops turned in their badges, during the madness, they were trying to boss people around and take advantage of the occupation they walked away from. "I'M A COP!!!"

I use the word coward because there was an interview with a NOPD officer and HE called them cowards. He said they let the citizens down that pay there checks.
The mayor & police chief echoed similar words.

I wonder if that superdome & convention center would've been safer with 100's of more officers at each location?

Scammers without a doubt.

Scum of the earth, who see a devastating storm as a way to prey on victims and score some fast cash for drugs, gambling, whatever.

Not too surprising, for a while NO has officially had America's #1 most corrupt cops (I'm pretty sure they're still at the top of that list). Can you imagine, they beat out LA, it's gotta be rough down there.

So when they're finally needed, they dissappear because there are no kickbacks in it and actual danger involved.

Of course, I congradulate the ones that stayed, but the true shame is that I know the cowards will come back and want their old jobs with the benefits, and they just might get it.

Not even close. People who scam others in the name of the Hurricane is the lowest of the low. Cops who resign because their own house are destroyed by hurricane are just human.
