Scobie's Quit Smoking Journal -- With Prizes!! (Week 3; Strong, like bull!)

Congrats, though don't celebrate yet... I've seen my brother quit for months and then go back.

Try to avoid stressful situations and a lot of alcohol. Both are great ways to start up again.

Haven't read much, but good luck to ya Scobie. I myself, don't have any plans to quit anytime soon.

Of course, if I'm flat ass broke and no money for smokes, I do have the will power to go several days without one until I can get a few bucks for a pack though...

congrats, it sounds like you've made good progress. I wish my mother could quit but she's been smoking for almost 40 years. People have actually advised me to advise my mother to quit. When I was like 8 and threw her cigs out, it was cute, I don't think it would be cute anymore.

Welp, I tossed the digits into the random.org randomizer with my parameters set at 2 random integers with the smallest value being 3 (first non-me post in the thread) and the largest value being 106 (last post number in the thread as of midnight).

The lucky numbers are 37 and 60! That means AshesofWake and ramatut4001, a winners are you! I'll be contacting you via PM here in the next couple of minutes to verify which prize you wanted -- a points card for either the Wii or the 360.

My sincerest thanks to everyone who posted in this thread with kind words and encouragement. It really did make a difference, and I'm grateful to you all. Also, thanks to Cheapy and the mods for letting this thing roll -- best mods in the business!

And I wanted to extend a word of hope for those who are in the process of quitting smoking like I am. I know from first-hand experience how freakin' brutal this can be and how much inner-strength it requires. You guys are doing great, and I'm really proud of you! Keep it up and feel free to shoot me a PM if you ever need encouragement or if there's ever anything I can do.

To those CAGs who are still on the stick, don't let anybody browbeat you too badly about smoking. Don't let the smug non-smokers get you down when they pass by you with their fake coughing. I've been right where you are and I know exactly what it's like, standing outside in the cold and the rain, grabbing a few puffs to keep the nicotine levels up. I hope you'll find a time to quit, but do it when you're ready. And if you really don't want to quit, I think that's absolutely fine and legitimate, too.

Wow, thanks! A winner is me! I'm glad you're still doing well with the whole quitting thing. You obviously really want to quit this time and if you're anything like me this public attention will give you another incentive to stay quit. Remember that despite bumps in the road, it will only get easier after awhile.

I've enjoyed following your progress and everybody's reactions. My choice for the contest is the Wii card. Thanks again and good luck to you and everyone else who has quit smoking.

congrats scobie, glad to see you get over the mental, and chemical addiction.

Really glad for you. Now with all that money your saving go buy some games!

Thanks for your encouragement, and congrats on the Wii Points card! I PM'ed you the number. Have fun with the VC games! There's an amazing amount of quality stuff on that thing already with the promise of so much more to come.

Thanks, man! I've got such a ferocious backlog from last year's CAG deals that I really don't need any new games for a while (though I'll probably go in for Guitar Hero II for the 360!)... I'll probably just give the cash to my folks to help them out a little.
Keep it up Scobie.

But know I will always lurk with Family Guy Smoke Man.
I wouldn't respect you if you didn't. :D
The last update to the daily journal was on the 23rd, how are you holding up?
Doin' mighty fine. It's already week 3 which is pretty amazing. I have moments where I'd really like a smoke, but they're pretty quickly fought back.

I've been putting myself through challenges and fighting through the association with smoking -- driving, going to bars, demolishing a few beers with the lads, going to sloppy Mexican restaurants and having a gigantic margarita, etc. So far I've been able to get through everything without breaking.

Today was my first day back to work after being out for the past two weeks, and I had a modestly retarded impromptu meeting a half an hour I got in that lasted about two hours. Made it through that with one piece of chewing gum.

So, yeah, ex-smoker over here. :)

Good to hear! Maybe you can update the OP every week or so to give us a quick update, if that's too much, be sure to at least make a post once you hit the one month mark.

Not a bad idea. Might be helpful to some of the other CAGs who are trying to kick, as well.

Maybe could even throw in another ridiculous contest. :)

Sounds to me like you're replacing smoking with drinking, as three of those four activities involve drinking alcohol.

You DO NOT want to replace smoking with drinking by any means at all.
