SCTV deal ... Dollar General (Vol. 4 YMMV)

007

CAGiversary!
Alright... I'm posting this fully aware that anything at Dollar General is a more than likely a HUGE YMMV because I can't imagine all locations get the same stuff. Anyway, it was a horrendously good deal, so I figured I'd throw it out there.

I just picked up volumes 1-4 of SCTV for $42 after tax. So, yeah, that's $10 a piece, quite a bit less than they still retail for.

Anyway, like I said, this is probably extremely YMMV... but just wanted to give people a heads up.

(In case any Johnstown CAG's are interested, it's the one near Eckerd on Scalp Ave. One copy each of 1-3 left, I picked up the last volume 4.)

EDIT- finally edited the title. Since it seems this is fairly widespread, I just made note of the fact that finding Volume 4 seems extremely YMMV.

Never seen the show, but I heard good things about it. For $10, I'd be willing to check out at least one volume. Thanks for the heads up!

After reading Dollar General I thought it was going to be about $3 each. $10 per volume seems a bit high at a place where I get my sunglasses for $1.

Regardless, a good deal for a great show, much better than (and a bit more perverted than) Saturday Night Live. This was the show that started John Candy and Eugene Levy.

UPDATE/EDIT: Holy crap, why in the world do these retail from $60-$80 each?!? Volume 4 on Amazon is $80.99 w/retail at $89.99. They should be selling the whole series at that price...I might have to go by dollar general now.

haha... exactly. When I first saw them, I passed, only to come home at check prices online... then I went back. So, yeah, it doesn't sound like an amazing deal unless you know how much they still sell for, which is a fairly outrageous amount.

You should resell one set... or buy another and resell it... You are basically getting paid to get the DVDs

:p

I believe the reason these sets cost so much has something to do with music. Odd for a sketch comedy show with no musical guests.
Hmmmm........How much will Gamestop buy these for?
Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe gamestop stopped buying DVDs

Mine will still give credit for DVD's but they're only giving 11 dollars a piece for these, wherehouse.com will give you $21.50 for volume 4 alone.

I bought volume 3 and 4 and I'm not sure if I want to trade these in at FYE or keep them, it's a really good show and a good deal. Thanks OP.

Edit: they also had some other shows including All American Girl, which I had totally forgotten about until I seen the box. I used to like that show.

Just to update this, during a trip through rural Tennessee last week I found SCTV box sets at ALL of the Dollar General Markets I went to, NOT the regular stores. The Markets are supermarket combos and are more modern and larger than most Dollar General.

Do you mean Dollar General Markets, or are these at Family Dollar Markets as well?

Oops! I always get the two confused. I fixed it... Dollar General Markets have the SCTV box sets.

I found another Dollar General who had volumes 1-3, so I picked up one of each for anyone who wants. The lady behind me saw them and got all excited. I told her I left one of each volume on the shelves over there, so she picked up the other sets. =)

$15 shipped a piece, or if you want all three, how about $40 total?

If no one wants, I'll toss them on eBay.

Of course, if anyone has found Volume 4 and would like to trade for any of the sets, or sell, please let me know. That's the one set I've been unable to locate.

I actually finally managed to track down vol. 1-3 at a DG store location that I didn't even know existed. I'd still like to get my hands on vol. 4 though. If anyone has an extra copy of vol. 4 that they'd be willing to send my way for a reasonable price (such as cost + shipping), please PM me.

Has anyone even found Vol. 4 at any stores? I will visit more stores if there is a chance of finding it. (I got Vol. 1-3 with the Blockbuster price mistake when they first came out.)

Found another location with some of these $10 DVD sets, but still no SCTV Vol. 4. If anyone can get ahold of an extra copy of SCTV Vol. 4, I'd also be willing to pick up a copy of SCTV Vol. 1, 2, or 3, Ellen Season One, or the DVD set of Miracles to trade them for it. If anyone's interested, please PM me.

Volume 4 is definitely out there, but I'd imagine it's the toughest to get a hold of. FWIW, when I first found them, my DG had two copies of each of first three volumes, but only one of volume 4. So, I'd imagine either smart people snatched up volume 4 knowing it went for higher amounts or, the more likely scenario, there were much smaller amounts of volume 4 sent out compared to the other three.

I mean, I'll admit I wavered on picking them up and it was the fact that I could get all four that cheap swayed me.

So, yeah, it's out there, but I'd imagine more people won't find it than will.
