Sealed games at used prices (Blockbuster) YMMV

nelsed

CAGiversary!
I was in Portland this weekend and went in to a Blockbuster and picked up brand new sealed games for the used price.... I was a little afraid to jinx myself and ask them about it, but I did anyway... and apparently they are accepting games for credit or cash (this BB didn't have a gamerush attached) but they can't sell them at new prices, so they sell them used.

I picked up...

Red Dead Revolver (sealed)
Mechassault 2 (sealed)
Warioware

for 33.98 with the buy 2 get one free offer on used games...

for a little over 11 bucks a piece, it seemed like a pretty decent deal...

Interesting - because they usually just open the games and sell them used that way. Even when they are sealed they are still, usually, required to open them and check the condition. I know at GR they do this - local BB's might not be as familiar with the policy though. Thus I think it will be very YMMV to find sealed games selling as used - most will be opened. Of course, those will be in excellent condition but you'd have to ask to look at every game you are interested in to see if they seem "new". I have bought several games at GR and BB (in the same area as you) that were in such excellent condition I assume they were new trade-ins that either they opened after trade-in, or the person trading opened right before bringing them in. I've never seen a new, sealed, selling as used though - good find. Can you tell us which store this was at? That way those of us in the area can check that one store for more, in any case.

This seems more appropriate for bragging rights than an actual deal. I'm sure there aren't sealed games that people have traded in at a lot of Blockbusters.
i live in Beaverton, OR i might swing by my local blockbusters to see if they have any goodies there as well.
HAHA, Beaverton.......funny name for a town

The store I picked these up at the BB in the mall 205 area....
I think the exit is glisan / stark??? I forget...

And yes, this is portland, OR...

There were some sealed games when I left... some games I'd never heard of..
could be good deals I don't know.... Most were Xbox...

And yeah... I'm guessing it is extremely YMMV... but at that location... they still have some.

I was in Beaverton yesterday - got some $5 cheapies at the Best Buy there.
I bet you laugh every time you see Oregon State teams on TV :D. Isn't this the Beaver state (or is it the duck state? - either is kinda funny)?

OP - thanks for the tip - I've been to that BB, but not recently - the one right near Mall 205 right? I'll check it out soon.
When did they start giving cash? BB must really be desperate.
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering... I'll have to check my local Blockbuster.

I got a sealed Suikoden III at a GR about a month ago. I think they just take back whatever you bring in, so if someone brings in a sealed game, they take it and put it out used. This doesn't sound like much of a "deal", just what happens...am I missing something?
