So I have a Sega CD II system that a friend gave me that is in pretty good shape and hooked it up to my Genesis II flipped the switch and.....got nothing. The red power light comes on and everything seems to be working jsut fine but I have no picture or sound. Anyone have any ideas on what I amy be doing wrong? What cables do you need to have hooked up in order to get this thing to work? Maybe I did that wrong or maybe the system is S.O.L.? Any theories?

Thanks for the help!

When I had that problem with my front loader system, I would just clean the leads that connect the console with the cd system. I would just dab a drop of water on a q-tip and wipe away years of grime. That always seems to work for me. Lots of good stuff on that system. I hope you're not S.O.L.

Do I need to have power cables hooked to both systems and av cables to both as well? Just curious as I think I only had the av & ac adaptors plugged into the Sega CD system?

The AV is hooked up to the genesis. You DO need TWO Sega Genesis AC Adaptors though. One for the Genesis and one for the Sega CD

What a strange beast the Sega cd is anyway! Yes, you do have to power up both the Sega CD and the Sega Genesis.

My Sega CD works except for the fact that it says that there is no CD in the drive. So far I've cleaned the CD and blown out the cd compartment. I hope I am not SOL considering how far I've come.:bomb:

mine is like pvollan's, it will turn on fine and start, search for a disc then say there is no disk in the tray, I really want to be able to fix it since I don't really have a lot of money to buy a new one.

dont remember wich one... but i seem to remember there being a short cord that ran from the cd unit to the genesis as well as all the rest of the cords

I think that might have been the 32X

I used to have a Sega CD with that problem... on my unit, the disc wasn't spinning right. I had to pop the cover, start spinning it by hand, then close it real quick- kind of like jump starting the motor.

Assuming that works, fair warning- that unit died completely about 2 months after I got it. You should be looking for a new unit (or repair parts if you're so inclined) either way.
