The Dreamcast I just acquired seems to not want to keep the date and the time at all. This usually happens after its been powered off for only a few hours. Is this a problem with the unit? is there a fix? is this what is considered an auto reset problem? I have no problems playing games or anything it just doesnt seem to want to keep the date and time.

Thanks

from a pc perspective this is usually the little batter on the motherboard went kaput...
froma console perspective....no clue how to fix this.

Yeah thats what I would think too, I'll have to look into it and see if it has a coin battery or what I guess maybe.

It has a coin battery, but it's soldered in. Requires minor surgery, but it can be done.

Well if I'm gathering my info right its a rechargeable coin battery? First I'm going to try to leave it on for 4 hours to charge (I have a feeling that its been sitting for a very long time). See if that helps than if not I guess I'll have to see if it will be worth it to change it out or not.

That's what I'd do- I mentioned here once my DC didn't seem to want to keep the date/time settings either, and was told the battery only charges when the system's actually on.

Well, left it on for 4 hours, shut it down, left it sit for a minute. Turned it back on set the date, played a little then turned it off. Next time I turned it on a few hours later it asked me to set the date again so I'm guessing the battery is shot.

Had the same problem with mine awhile back. The coin battery in mine wasn't solder in. Pop out and in really easy. Ebay use to sell them by the truck loads for cheap, meaing the battery.

the only thing i'm finding is the VMU battery on there, maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing though.
