what is the mega drive? I'm looking for certain genesis games on ebay and most of them r called sega mega drive games, but look the exact same as a genesis game. Is there ne difference and would they work on on a regular genesis?

From what I understand the Mega Drive sys is PAL or NTSC. As you said they look pretty much the same as regular Genesis games, but you won't be able to mix and match games from system to system.

In order to play mega drive games on a "regular" Genesis you need an adaptor. Try looking up "Nitro Adaptor." I'm not sure how much they can go for though.

I could be wrong with the details, but I know about the games not being able to work on different region systems.

some US games are Mega Drive games. Probably overlfow of stuff that did not sell in Japan. I think my Kid Chameleon is a Mega Drive game

Hold on, in that insane garage sale lot there was a flyer about the Mega Drive.... I think it had to do with something attaching to the Game Gear and playing Genesis games or something... Once I'm done talking on the phone I'll go get the flyer and post it or take a pic of it.

In Japan and Europe /UK the system we know as the Sega Genesis is the Sega Megarive. With a few exceptions Japenes cartridges work on US units. The only major difficulty is the shape of the cartridge shell. You can either hack the plastic around the cartridge slot of your US Genesis or use an adapter. There are a fair number of Japanese game with no US equivalent that are worth playing and don't have any need for translation.

UK/Europe Megadrive games are more of a question. It's very easy using certain techniques that were common on 8-bit and 16-bit systems to reate a game that won't display correctly on a NTSC television. Somebody may have a list of the games that do and do not behave correctly but its probably more trouble than it's worth. The list of Megadrive PAL games with no US version is exceeedingly short. Unless you're a big Hugo fan (if that doesn't mean anything to you, well, case in point) you're better off just ignoriing anything for PAL systems.
The sega genesis has a master system which i believe is the mega drive. But don't quote me on that.
The Master System was an earlier 8-bit console. The adapter to play Master System games on the Genesis is called the Power Base Converter. Most of them can also be played on the Sega Game Gear with a Master Gear adapter, although most of the Master System games really worth playing on their merits rather than as historical curiousities have been released for the GBA.

I found that flyer... It was the *Master Gear* accessory.
For what it's worth I played "The Incredible Hulk" Sega Mega Drive game on my Version 1 Genesis and it played fine. The graphics looked like evey other 16 bit Genesis game. The cart says it was assembled in the U.K. though. Also on the box there are 5 languages for the brief description of the game. Not sure if this helps but this "Mega Drive" game seems to be just the same as a Genesis one to me.

...Nowhere on the cart, box, or insturctions does it say "Genesis" only "Mega Drive" in it's place.

Sega didn't institute region lockout until 1992, and even then it was limited to certain games (I know Golden Axe 3 had it), so aside from PAL/NTSC display issues, you should be able to play the majority of games.
