Can a Sega Saturn play games on cdr's like the dreamcast?

Please note that I am NOT planning on doing this, but was talking to my friend last night about which systems were easiest to Pirate, and we couldnt remember anything about the Saturn. Was it truely a piracy free system???

personally im not sure, but i think it has to be modded. My saturn wont play imports unless i used a special action replay cart. so i'm guessing cdr would have the same problem. I could be wrong though.

If I remember right, the saturn needs a modchip to play burned games and a separate mod to do imports. I think someone on the board sells those chips. His mod looks easier. Here is the import mod.

From the modding efforts of my friend back in college (and the subsequent failure due to my Saturn system being an incompatible model with the chip), you need to chip your Saturn in order to play burns and imports. It's a shame but, hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I do miss playing Radiant Silvergun on his system, though...
why do you have to buy MOD chips to play back up games BUT you dont need mod Chips to play Back up movies
Because there is no God.

Thanks for the replies.

I use the 4in1 cart to play all my JPN games so Im def not modding my Saturn. I would love to play Radiant Silvergun someday but alas.... it may never happen. =(

The Saturn will play backup CD-Rs just like the Dreamcast will. Only difference is that you use either the swaptrick (easier on model 1) or a modchip (easier for the model 2). But I repeat it will play CD-Rs of backups.

because the video game industry is trying to kill the movie star

You'll need a mod chip. Easy as pie to install. You plug the board in and then plug the ribbon cable from the CD-ROM. Solder two wires and you're good to go.
