Sell my 360 to get a PS3?

Well, for the past couple of months I've been thinking about selling my 360 and getting an 80GB PS3 with Motorstorm, Warhawk, and CoD4. I'd only want it new from the store, so I'd have to add a couple hundred bucks.

Is this the right way to go? I've been a Sony whore most of my [short] life. Got a 360 for christmas last year (already on my 2nd one though - first one got the famous RROD). PS3 looks awesome and whatnot, also got a PSP which would be nice to have the combo.

I'd like some opinions/comments/suggestions fellow CAGers may have.

Oh and having both the PS3 and 360 are a possiblilty but I'd ahve to wait for Christmas and My birthday which would be 6 months from now. So, I'd rather get it sooner than later. Only thing is, I have the "newer" HDMI 360s and just got a new 32" sony bravia. PS3 also have HDMI??

yes ps3 has hdmi... thats how it does 1080p.

Id say its worth it. PS3 has unreal tournament 3 way before 360.. and a lot of the ps3 games are a blast.. Folklore is freaking amazing.

Id say sell the 360 on craiglist and you may get enough for a ps3 if you bundle it properly.

Selling your 360 for a PS3 would be a horrible idea. Motorstorm's okay, but not a system seller. Warhawk is good, but again, not a system seller. COD4 is better on the 360, with a better online service as well.

PS3's do have HDMI, they don't come with a cord, though.

Why do you want to get rid of your 360? If you're looking to eventually do a 360/PS3 combo, just save up and buy the PS3.

Regarding Unreal Tournament, it's a timed exclusive. Yeah, it'll be on PS3 first. I can't see it having a huge online community though, and Unreal Tournament isn't a very fun single player game. Haven't tried Folklore yet, I've heard good things though. Uncharted and Heavenly Sword are fantastic.
 
I would keep the 360 In terms on power PS3 is obviousely better, but unless you got a top of the line TV who cares. Also 360 online play is amazing.
 
Well, its based on your preference.

If u like shooters then 360 is the way to go. If u like traditional RPG's there is a more promising future with the PS3. As of right now the game list for 360 is much more robust. Many gamess have the 360 as the main platform, so often the ps3 version will be delayed a couple weeks. I personally have a 360, and i am happy with it. It mostly comes down to if you want metal gear solid and gran turismo or Halo and Forza. ;)
 
If you want to play CoD4 I would stay clear of the PS3.
UT3 will certainly be on the PS3 first and have more mods for the PS3. That being said: Personally, I am very disappointed in my PS3 and always prefer UT on the PC. With it and Haze coming to the 360 I would wait until something that is exclusive is coming to the PS3 drops. Like Cheapy D says "the ps3 ain't getting more expensive" and the multiplayer and game selection on the 360 dominates it. Unless you have to have a bluray now wait.

The PS3 thus far is a miserable disappointment for me personally, and that is coming from a former PS fanboy.
 
if you plan on playing COD4 online go with the 360. If you want exclusives like heavenly sword or metal gear get a ps3.

I personally have all 3 consoles and find my self playing the 360 alot more then the other two.

The Wii is my younger brothers, it doesn't attract me as much. The 360 has undeniable amazing gameplay, that I certainly know. I've heard that the PS3 online gameplay is not too good, but heck its not $50 a year.

As for HDMI, I have all the equipment already.

I'm really debating it but I am a FPS guy. I've grown into my 360 in the year or so. Family members and friends have warned me about the PS3, to steer clear until they bring in some awesome games.

Looks like I will be sticking with the 360 then. I had doubts when I initially purchased it, but hell I love the system now.

With the good information from you guys, you are solidifying my opinion of the 360. It is an awesome console, and apart from it being "easily breakable I guess you could say, its an awesome system.

I might get a PS3 in the future then, once I save up for it. I plan to keep my 360 for now. Thanks for the opinion and seems like I've been convinced rather quickly.

I second that just buy mass effect and you should be great until your birthday that game could keep me busy for a year.
 
reasons to keep your 360
1) good online support
2) good base of games already
3) tons of FPS and more on the way, steady Rpgs comin in too
4) good exclusives(halo 3, mass effect, bioshock, ect.)
5) you already own it and know what to expect
6) ps3 games suck right now and the online community isnt as strong
7) 360 and ps3 have most of the same ports anyways


reasons to get a ps3
1) great ps3 exclusives on the way and strong first party support
2) online is free
3) u want to play ps2/ps1 games u have never played
4) blu-ray movies (if you like great audio this is the way to go, and more studio support)
5) the system is more reliable, no RROD, failure rate is 2%
6) it upconverts dvds to 1080p(donno if the 360 does this, if it does, then bonus for both)
7) dont care about the 360 games on the way and had ur fun with the current exclusives on the 360.

i dont own a 360, but after reading countless fanboy battles, thats what ive gotten out of it.

I'm not going to tell you to ignore the PS3 since you admit to being a Sony whore. I will suggest, however, to wait a little longer to see if Sony can get their sh*t together, say like maybe around the time MGS4 comes out (if you're old enough and/or allowed to play M-rated games). Plus GTA IV will have exclusive downloadable content that the PS 3 won't have at all (again, if you're old enough, etc.). And who knows when Sony will release a SIXXAXIS controller with rumble capablilities. Just too many mistakes by Sony since their launch that haven't been properly addressed yet -- probably because Sony so damned focused on pushing Blu-Ray?

But that's an argument for another time and place.

As for 360's RRoD issues, I suggest two things: 1) DO NOT SET YOUR 360 VERTICALLY!!! The vertical base is actually the 360's main ventillation side (yeah, who knew this would be an issue?), and 2) Nyko's redesigned Intercooler. The newer ones have corrected their orginal design flaw by properly shielding its power cord connection (shockingly my original one hasn't caught on fire -- yet).

Yea, my 360 RRoD'd when it was vertical. Hmmm, that's odd. I was thinking about get a Nyko intercooler, but I usually don't play more than 2 hours at a time.

As for age to play games, I am allowed to play whatever games, thats not an issue. Only thing is, I don't work (I'm 16) so its difficult to get what I want. I definately can't ask for another console (Parents will kill me).

16 is the perfect age to start working.
 
Second that.. I traded in my 360 for a ps3 with my cousin for one month, biggest mistake of my life, good system, but i couldnt stop thinking about the superior 360 whenever i played it.. Next month came, I ran to my cousin's house and forcefully demanded my 360 back..

"wtf man.. i thought we had a deal, i dont want that fuckin barbeque sized sony bs anymore.. cmon man ill give u an extra $50" - my cousin ;)
 
As for someone who has both a 360 and a PS3, I would say selling your 360 to get a PS3 is a HUGE mistake. The 360 has a way better online community and not to mention game selection. The original PS3 exclusives such as AC, DMC4, and GTA4 are also going to be on the 360 as well with extra content.

To be honest, I bought my PS3 because I got $200 off the price about 3 months after launch and I was really looking forward to Heavenly Sword, Lair, AC, DMC4, GTA4, and FFIV. Well 2 of the games ending up being pure garbage (HS and Lair) and the rest, with exception to FFIV, lost their exclusivity. Now My PS3 just kinda sits there. I hope to get Uncharted for Xmas, which will make me want to pick up my PS3 controller again, but if a game is released for both systems 9/10 times I am going to buy it for the 360 because of gamerscore and ease of online play.

Good example, I bought Armored Core 4 for the PS3 over the 360 when it first came out. Why? I have no idea, it was just an impulse. On Black Friday, GameCrazy had AC4 for the 360 on sale for $20. I picked it up immediately and I am about to sell my PS3 version cause I don't care for it on that system. If I get Oblivion GOTY edition on the 360 for Xmas this year, I will be trading both my AC4 and Oblivion PS3 games in for store credit towards another 360 title. Why? Because the extra add ons that the 360 has completely makes up my mind at point of sale.
 
The only real reason to do it, I think, is to watch Blu-Ray movies. If you want movies in Hi-Def, and probably the format that will win, do it. If you're in it for the games, I'd say hold on to your xbox and get a PS3 when you can afford it.

I say wait. The PS3 may be slightly more powerful, but, due to its development difficulty, there haven't been too many games that even begin to take advantage of it, and most of the ones that do are first or second party. Multi-platform releases generally play as good or better on 360, and the list of exclusives for 360 is looking pretty damn sweet! (Halo 3, Bioshock, Gears of War).

Of course, the PS3 does have some great titles in the pipeline (MGS4, FF13, GT5 and GOW3, and expect KH 3 sometime in the future). But most of these are slated for release sometime next year, at the earliest, and don't be too surprised to find many slip till next holiday, or beyond. By this time, the PS3 will likely have had another price drop and/or repackaging. With the cheapest model at $400, its still too expensive for mass market, and they'll need a much bigger installed base if they expect to continue to snag exclusives like the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy series.

but yeah the thing that is being pushed the most is, just buy a ps3 later. im sure u can hold out and save up enough money to buy one and then the games that are out now will be cheaper. the 360 games will keep u busy in that time.
 
Yeah why not. The 360 had a good 2 year head start on the PS3, so up untill now the competition has always favored the 360. Hands down. But Microsoft has no real exclusive developers under their belt and now that Halo 3 (and Bungie) are both out there isn't a lot still up their sleeves. Are there any more platform exclusives coming out for the 360? I can't think of many. Add to that the fact that they have very little support from japanese devs (relativley speaking), and a console with a non-standard hd and a legendary failure rate, and the PS3 is starting to look better and better.

That's my idea. I can try to hold off till around May of next year....or maybe after school ends in June.

by then ull have more games to buy then ur wallet can afford.
mgs4,gta4,uncharted,heavenlysword,resistance,ninjagaiden, and so on.
since it seems u dont have a giant budget, it would make no sense to switch to ps3 right now cause ud have no money to buy any games.
 
It just dawned on me what the problem is for you on getting a job: There isn't a job out there that you really WANT to do. When I was 16, I struggled with trying to figure out what I wanted to do and where I wanted to work more than anything else. I wasn't going to flip burgers or be a waiter or work anywhere the customers were a**holes. So I worked at a car wash and at a movie theater (at least I got 2 out of 3 right).

I guess what I'm saying is that you are going to do somethings in life that you flat out don't like, possibly downright hate. But it's a job, a means to an end. Once you get that first check, you'll feel better about it because you'll have the cash to get what you want.
 
Yea, I'd be willing to work anywhere really. As long as customers weren't too bad, and it wasn't flippin' burgers. I've asked around, people don't want "help" in my area, although I live in a pretty "dead" place, so that my be a reason. I would be willing to travel but working only a few hours a day isn't much. My schedule mainly runs from about 5pm to 8pm that I can work on weekdays, and 3pm to 9pm on saturday and sunday. If ANYONE can help, it would be nice, as I'm a dedicated worker.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Furashu here. The PS3 is certainly great to have around, but it ain't gonna kill you to hold off for a while. BTW, I heard that MGS4 will be available bundled with a new PS3 configuration, possibly the white one?

As for your job search, I wish you well on that. I would've been able to help, but you commuting to San Diego is probably gonna be a hurdle too high.

I traded my 360>wii>ps3
I love it for hidef but for online gameplay at this point in time it is bad. Just aren't enough players. And my gaming of choice is online shooters. As a shooter fan you should keep your 360 and add a ps3 to your gaming collection at a later date.

Gee.....no big surprise, this thread has partially turned into a fanboy war.

Just play the system you have now and grab a PS3 once you have the $$$ and once games start going Greatest Hits, so in that way ya can get 2-3 games instead of ONE for $60.

Might as well Get a PS3, you're not going to miss out on anything, by not having an 360. Plus, it'll be easier to replace the 360 if you really want one, cause it'll get cheaper first.
 
3rd party games are and will remain superior on the 360. Just deal with it and keep it. Let you Sony fanboy ways go, as most have this gen it seems.

And OP, if you want a PS3 then go for it, the future is looking great for the PS3, it already had more big exclusives than the 360 for fall/winter and Unreal Tournament 3 is coming at the beginning of this month (the 10th), not to mention Haze next month.

All the big games will be multiplatform with a few exceptions, but really you won't be missing out on too much as far as I know.
 
aside from the reasons put forth already for you to wait, you should also wait to see how the game lineups for next year start shaping up first.
 
I would say don't do it because whoever you sell it to will ask you about the RROD and it will create a headache because they may bug you for their money back.

Get a PS3 mid-to-late next year when more of the good PS3 games will be out. Trade in the X-Box 360 if you can now before Microsoft further drives down the value of it and release the Maximum $$$$ Ass-Rapage X-Box 360 with 500 GB hard drive. The 360 is a good system and the games are good-to-great, but the number of new versions of the system is a tad irritating.
 
get a ps3 for heavenly sword, uncharted, & ratchet and clank (maybe resistance well i didn't like it but many people do)

keep your 360 for deadrising, mass effect, Call of duty 4 (nerdgasm), orange box, gears. Well you get the idea.

and if you want a wii try to get mario galaxy, re4, twilight princess, and the trauma centers.

Why are you listing a multi-platform game that is exactly the same if maybe not even a hair better on the PS3 as a reason to keep the 360 (COD4). Deadrising is nice, but the sequel will be headed multi (360/PS3) if it ever comes out.


I'd say keep the 360 if you know you can't do without Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Gears. If you think you can then I wouldn't worry. Here on out all multi games will be equal if not maybe better on the PS3 (as they get more out of it every day). Also a few 360 exclusives may eventually see the light of day on the PS3 too (Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc).

yeah, but forget about what's (maybe) coming out down the road. perhaps you could tell the OP why the PS3 is such a great system to own now. Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, etc.???
 
my point isnt to tell him what to get, thats his decision

he has a 360, if he doesnt care for the exclusives out for it now, he might as well get rid of it while its value is still as high as it is, since the road ahead doesnt have to many exclusives listed (especially big name ones)

if the ps3 exclusives intrigue him then he should get it now, why wait?

so fanboys shut the fuck up already, all three systems are solid (though if i didnt have a system now id buy a ps3 as the next-gen adult one, because i personally like sonys exclusives better than ms's exclusives, and i wouldnt want to think of dealing with hardware issues)

we just have absolutely no way of knowing that right now, and nothing produced thus far even remotely supports that theory.

Oh, the PC version is definitely and by far the best version, there's no arguing that.

Still, as far as I heard 360 won't have mouse/keyboard support, the ability to use mods, and probably other stuff I can't remember.

PS3 originally had cross platform play with PC gamers, but that has now changed to a "maybe" in the future. Sucks :cry:
