Selling to an unverified buyer WITH a confirmed address on paypal?

I just sold an amp for $205 through a car audio forum. The guy only made 7 posts on the forum and made the paypal account the four days ago while we talked about the sale. He sent payment last night.

So I get the email from paypal and it says the guy is an unverified buyer but he does have a confirmed address and I am eligible under the seller protection policy.

So, my main question: I should be fine, right? I just have no idea what it means that he's an unverified buyer. Is it because he just made the account?

Also, after I sold the amp, I was ready to send payment to another person on the same forum to buy his amp--he has 10 references or so on the forum and nearly 5,000. But he is an unverified seller, so that made me back out not entirely because I didn't trust him, but because if anything went wrong in the shipping process, I didn't want to get screwed.

Anyway, I'm getting sick of doing high-priced transactions online. I hope that in the future, google or somebody else can set up an effective auction site that does a good job of protecting the buyer and seller.

What's wrong with asking them to get verified before you do business? It's not like it's a painful process.

I already asked him but he hasn't logged in yet.

He does have a confirmed address am I am protected, but I don't know what it means in that he is an unverified buyer. If he has a confirmed address, doesn't that mean he already went through the verification process where paypal sends a few cents to your account?

I don't know for sure, but I think you should be straight. Verified is when you verify your bank account on Paypal (that's the cents you're talking about). I'm sure a lot of people don't want to do that so they stay as unverified members.

Just that he doesn't have a bank account listed with paypal. I keep only $50 in my paypal'ed bank account, don't want them to screw me over by freezing it or something. I've heard the horror stories.

Just tell the buyer to wait a couple days until the money transfers over to your bank account. That way the money can't get froze and taken back from you.

On the buying the amp, sounds like you should be fine with that. Like others have stated verified just means it's not linked to their bank account. If he has good Feedbacks it should work fine in the end.

But yeah, I think I'm being overly paranoid and that if I do both transactions, they'll both be ok.

But I did already back away from buying the amp from the other guy, and I already asked my buyer to verify his account. Both of them have not logged on yet, so I don't have any responses from either of them.

I took a chance (more like I got over my slight case of paranoia) and I bought the amp. The guy has a premiere account, has been a paypal member for over a year and has plenty of posts and feedback, so I think I should be ok.

Should I wait for my buyer to verify his account before I send out my amp though?

Even if he verifies he could still screw you because of the way Paypal does things.

I would think you would be alright if he sent the money, but wait a couple days until you can transfer the money into your bank account before you send the amp. That way the funds can't get froze.

AND if you are that worried about it tell the guy to send you a money order. No takeback crap with those.

Well, the money is gone because I sent it to the guy I'm buying from. So my account is empty right now.

As long as there is no money(or not much at least) in the account you should be good.

So I shouldn't ask him to verify his account--a confirmed address is good enough?

Too many questions on my part.. and too much paranoia.

Shipping to a confirmed address gives you the Seller Protection on PayPal. Verification on his part isn't going to do anything more for you.

Ok, that's what I was thinking.

I'm being too paranoid from reading all the scam stories from ps3 sales. And I didn't even sell a ps3..
