I need to send my new ds back to nintendo because of dead pixels. Has anyone every sent there unit back to them? Will I get my original ds back or will I get a refurbished one. Also how long does it take?

It's really easy. They send you a label, you ship the broken unit to them, they send a new or refurbished one (you will not be able to tell) back. Takes a week or so. They might ship you a unit right away if you let them charge it to a credit card. They only run it if you don't ship the broken unit back in a few days.

My little brother did this and got a new back in the mail a week later. He had one dead pixel on the touch screen. Nintendo is top notch in the customer service department!

I have to agree, their customer service is great.

And op, why don't you just return the ds at the store you bought it in? Seems easier than having to send it out.

I called game crazy and they will only take back used ones. Kinda stupid but it's nintendo law. Who knows. I guess I will be without it for 3 weeks nintendo just told me.

Call nintedno up and tell them what your situation is. After sending me 3 bad units, Nintendo had a hard time pissing me off like normal customer service usually does. I was very impressed with how well they think of their customers... yet another way for me to appreciate Nintendo...

I just bought this a few days ago and I got the nintendog blue one. I just dont want a refurbished one. To many bad experiences with rebuilt units. Oh well.

Were they refurbished or used?

Aren't refurbished faulty systems that they replace the thing that doesn't work with a new one? Thus making it practically new?

I actually sent in my system b/c my idiot friend scratched the HELL out of the screen when he was drunk. But I said that there was a dead pixel (ok, I lied, shut up) and that the sound distorted on some GBA games (true). They sent me back a brand new system about 1-2 weeks later (which ironically enough, A DIFFERENT friend scratched up, albeit not as bad  ). No hassles whatsover.

Nintendo is indeed the best at customer service. And Reality, I believe you said the same thing about my LoZ Collector's Edition disc... (And there was really a problem with it...)

Heh, they may be great, just don't make sure you hear what they say about people who call up. ;)

Some of the stories are very humoring though I suppose.

All lies! I won't hear it!

Hmmm. I've got a dead pixel and I was planning on sending it back, but I assumed they'd replace the screen. I don't want to get a different DS with the newer firmware because then I wouldn't be able to use homebrew or emulators anymore. I don't want to give up ScummVM DS.

Why don't you change the picture to a happy smiley now? :bouncy:

I don't know about the DS, but I have a friend whose kid jacked up his Gameboy SP and asked me if I knew how to get them fixed. After a little research, I found that replacing the LCD is essentially impossible or at best impractical.

As a last-ditch effort, I decided to call Nintendo on my cell one day when I was driving and had nothing to keep me occupied. As expected, they told me I could send it in and have it fixed for something like $69 I think. BUT, the guy also asked for the model number, and when I gave it to him he said "We could also just send you a replacement (albeit refurbished) unit for $40. With $5 shipping, I got a replacement SP for $45. Sold the old one on Ebay as a "Broken" unit, and when it was all said and done my buddy essentially got a "new replacement" for $25.

I love Nintendo. The best part about it is they keep track of all the model numbers, etc. Which makes it a lot harder for any of you lurkers out there to take advantage of their generosity. At the same time, guys like my friend who really need a solution for their kids get one at a reasonable cost. As everyone else has said - I suggest calling Nintendo and asking what they can do for you.
