So i'm getting a care package together to send one of my best friends who is over in Iraq. So far I'm sending M&M's, Jerky, a case of Ecto Cooler, and hopefully some burned DVD's. Regardless of the illegality of burning the movies here, by sending them to hiim in Iraq, could he get in trouble? I'm not so much worried about them seeing them and coming to get me (but let me know if this can happen....) as I am if he can get in trouble by his CO. I was just looking to burn some of my movies and send some over to keep his mind off of things. Also, what else could I send to him?

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm pretty sure they won't care about something so minor. What are they gonna do, kick him out? They need all the people they can get over there.

If you're really worried, you could intentionally mislabel the movies, though I'd suspect that they wouldn't care about the burned DVDs much in any case.

As far as other things to send...you know him better than we do, so you can do a much better job than we ever could. That said, things to kill time might be nice. Books, maybe?

Don't label them at all and most certainly don't label them as porn. Some muslim countries have severe penalties for the trafficking of porn (death anyone?). Just leave them blank and it should be fine. Also, make sure he will have a DVD player capable of playing NTSC movies. I'm fairly certain PAL is the primary format of choice over there.

No, you don't have to worry about burned movies in Iraq. In fact, people have burned movies EVERYWHERE over there. You gotta think, Iraq doesn't have any kinds of copyright laws, so people over there make some decent money selling burned movies.

Those Iraqis are really good at what they do. When a movie hits the theaters on any given weekend, you can usually find it two to three days later in one of the shops for about $2-$3. And most DVDs come with two to eight movies on one disc.

The good thing is the BXs and PXs over there sell US electronics, so we don't have to worry about region problems.
