Bought a new ps3 but recently it started having problems ejecting the discs. The discs reads fine but since it has passed the 30 day amazon I'm not eligible to get a amazon replacement. I'm worried about sony sending me a refurbished PS3 instead. I never send any systems back to sony directly so I'm not sure how they handle repairs. Do they generally if you your old system back?

Also I purchased a 3 year from square trade beforehand. But wondering if Sony will void the warranty since they would have to open it up to repair the ejecting mechanism inside. Would I still be good on the square trade warranty if I do send this back to sony?

Has anyone sent any defective units back to sony before?

I sent my PS3 to Sony about 3 months ago because the bluray drive died. They replaced the drive and sent my original console back.

I got my original one back when I had t send it in when the hard drive died. I made sure I got the original one back because my has backward comparable

Sony rarely sends the exact console back. It's usually faster for them to send a refurbished one. You'll always get the same model number back, though.

Regarding Square Trade, Sony probably would void the warranty. Any console that has been opened for anything other than swapping a hard drive is considered unserviceable. Whether or not Square Trade would be an exception, I'm not sure.

That blows if that is the case, I might as well just use up my square trade warranty and get a new one I suppose

I really don't want a refurbished from Sony, as my new one is still mint condition but lacks the ejecting function
